@csgh78 if your interested in something similar, i recommend visiting this channel "thetelevisionpirate2" and watch "america, the story of US", it basically this for britain but for america, hope i helped
The story of all staff officers living it up, pissed on red wine and in chataus far behind enemy lines is bit of a myth. I am to the left of Kropotkin in my political views, and have not much but contempt for the concept of an "officer class", but fair's fair.
I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was something like 'lots' of gererals and high ranking officers were killed at the fronts. I'm sure many were understandably afraid, but suprisingly many generals were close enough to be k.i.a.
I still think the Lusitania had some sort of flammable or explosive cargo aboard (illegal if coming from a neutral country) .. how else could a cruise ship sink so fast ?
@dchung5 Because cruise ships aren't designed for combat. They aren't meant to take massive explosions and keep on going like battleships, but are in fact quite fragile. Whenever countries tried to use them in any sort of combat role they proved to be far too easily damaged and sunk (on top of being fuel hogs) for use as anything but troop ships (and in turn protected by real warships and/or using their high speed -- something the Lusitania WASN'T doing that day -- to escape attack).
This documentary is good but sadly their description of history is more in line with british propaganda then with current historical research.

You can learn more watching these documentaries than by attending hours of University class.... okay, I exaggerate. But you get my point.
