Well I think her mom isn't cured from her own pains yet so she can't be giving. I basically don't think that her egoism is representing her more the thing that a person who isn't healed are often not able to see the pain of others. This shouldn't be a excuse for what her mom is doing - rather an explanation why she is doing this. People like her should let there own wounds be healed first else they will just bring pain to their children.

Broken glass is about the worst thing you can use to cut yourself in terms of getting an infection, b/c you can't get it completely antiseptic before you use it. It's jagged and sterilizing it w/out cutting yourself in the process is kind of difficult to accomplish.
