  • do the 12 volt fan mod and then this and see if helps

  • I cant get it to bake because of E79

  • after doing this my E74 left but now I have E79 :.( help please

  • I'm currently working on a fix for e74 for xbox 360 original console fun system but the biggest piece of shit at the same time. Love the games love the features but the reliability of it is horrible. Seems like microsoft just took something and threw it together sent it out to retail stores and it would break in months.

  • disconnects from the BUHOARd.

  • this guy for got a few major steps..you have to clean the old thermal paste off with a cotton ball and alcohol, as well as heat the chips up with a heat gun before reapplying new thermal paste.

  • what i dont understand is why in the hell does microsoft let this happen once....but now it ALSO happens on the slim too...i mean dont get me wrong i love microsoft, but they need to get their shit together....get in a big ass circle and make a way to fix all this shit or just give everyone a brand new xbox whoever this happen too.

P.S: Why does this not happen to nintendo or sony, people play that shit to, hell even the older systems dont do that shit....neither did the original xbox did this.

  • @jcd1411 uhm ive had a ps3, and it got the YLOD even more times than my xbox..

  • @jcd1411 You sir, Are dumb...The old Xbox did do this it was just one light, and the Ps3 has done it to me more then my Xbox has.

  • @jcd1411 PS2 was notorious for disk read errors because of a piss poor system to hold the reader at the right height.

  • thumb up my previous answer so people can see please. so many people come to this video and are like "wtf!!! it didn't work".

  • ★THIS IS ONLY TEMP FIX★ - I followed this guide 5 months ago and I learned a lot about the E74 error. Basically, this guide directs you to heat and bend your motherboard so that the solder points between the GPU chip and the motherboard come in contact again. After this guide, my Xbox worked for 1 month with no problems. Since then, the working length has diminshed and I have to heat and bend the motherboard every 2 days to 1 week if I want to play my Xbox. Message me for more info.

  • It broke down exactly that year my warranty ran out. F***ing Microsoft.

  • What tool did u use on that board on the front @ 12:35?

  • what if you fixed this a couple of years ago with taking of the x clamps and now its e 74 again..... now what?

  • It worked for 6 days and then it got it again

  • What do u do if u took out the wrong x clamp?

  • HAHA SUCKAS! I STARTED FIXING IT THEN MY MOM TOLD ME SHE WOULD JUST GET A NEW ONE!

  • hey thinks now i can play but my screen goes green when i play a game

  • Will i continue to get the 2 red dots if i didnt seal the graphics thing in?

  • Try four years after i bought the xbox...f***ing miscrosoft.

Exactly one year after my warranty ran out.

  • Two red rings and gonna turn off and probably not going to fix to work = To read prints pants and shirt off and for Texas. WTF?

  • I love the translation button.. The only bad thing is that It translate 90% wrong,

I put this on snug = Businessman

Now with this thing, I told you before = Note this land michael just before but

    Stupid translation function XD

  • ok so im gonna like need u to come to my house with those tools and do that exact same thing lol

  • @MultiNinja1997 get a tool kit for taking apart an xbox 360 on amazon

  • umm i did the toial trick a few times but now my hdmi dosent work did i fk up my grafixs card ?

  • is that a arcade? :)

  • If its temoary try adding like 3 fans and kick the rears up to 12v that might work, ima buy an xbox and see if i can fix it :D

  • Gay ass alienware computer... lol

  • Didn't work I had the same error code too Wtf

  • thumbs up if microsoft is king

  • thumbs up if u hate Microsoft

  • i had 7 months of wasted live because im stubborn with microsoft i refuse to by another xbox and i cant fix mine no matter what mine broke only two or three months after i bought it, it started on me trying to fix it to read cds right, why cant there be a lawsuit against them that says anyone who bought xbox within certain years gets a new one

  • @cbasma2782 mine lasted from dec 2007 till now 0.0

  • I removed both the shitty x clamps and bam.It worked...For an hour. Then same fault. My graphics mess up then I get the E74 back.WTF?

  • does this works for the xbox 360 elite 120 gb?

  • i dont understand why so many people get these errors and one of the main reasons is that the 360 is backed directly against a wall!!!!

  • is that an alienware?

  • what do you mean if the xbox 360 is slowly more stubborn?

  • Thanks men it realy worked but i needed mor than 30 min i worked 3h but it working and i nice very very thanks for this video ;)))))))) :DDDDDDDDDDD

  • guys this isn't what this vid is about so just calm the fuck down, who cares

plus they actually did get a few CC numbers so justt leave it

  • followed it step by step perfectley! and it didnt work ? WTF!

  • wait how big do you need to make the new holes for the new screws to go into?

  • Will it fix e 76 too? Pls repond!

  • thank you. worked perfectly :)

  • you couldnt skip the part with the 50 million skrews

  • @vipulpatel28 How?

The X-clamp has been replaced and I added new artic silver to the graphic chip and heat sink, what more can I do to get a permanent fix?

  • Here is a prime example why to buy a PS3. There are no videos on how to fix a factory broken Playstation. Microsoft is the devil. Nuff said.

  • @dassouda Ya I mean they didn't let thousands of peoples credit cards stolen or anything? O Wait...

  • @fyubr They didn't. Do your fucking homework before you try to loud-cap someone. POS of xbox fan boy.

  • @dassouda Done the research, seen the proof.

  • @fyubr You're lying. No CC numbers were stolen dip-shit. Now go ACTUALLY do the research instead of just saying you did.

  • I'll try this method soon thanks for the upload.

  • at 14:14 dirty little secret playing in the background.

  • It really worked! For three days... Anyone who knows how to fix it permenant? When I play NHL 11 the graphic got worse and when I turned the Xbox off and then turned it on again I got the one red light back :(

  • @limpantheking i got the same but only when i plyed mw2 the scenn started goin purpleish then i tured it off then bak on and boom red light :(

  • @limpantheking same with me

  • @limpantheking Yeah I fix this all the time, if you already did the xclamp fix then the nest step is to do a reflow I cannot explain how to do this due to lack of comment space so Ill leave it this. What happens to the xbox is it will get what they call "Cold Solder Joins" under the GPU, this causes E74/RROD. Also make sure that the screws now holding your GPU heat sink are not too tight this can also cause problems. Here is a link to what I mean when I say reflow /watch?v=MEvfBS6Tams

  • thank you for this instructional...I thought you were very thorough and clear with the steps.

  • Or just send to Microsoft and get a new xbox?...

  • Okay I followed all the steps and it worked fine for about a week, it went back to one red light and the E74 error message. I tried to figure what I did wrong and realized that I forgot to overheat it when it first started working like you did at the end of the video. I’m I screwed or can I still fix this

  • @redrave404 you can still fix it easy... same thing happened to me.... mines been working for about 2 and half weeks

  • The opening process was extremely complicated! I just pry it open and unscrew it

  • If you haven't got a hair dryer, just leave the Xbox to soak in the bath for a few hours, and then that warranty sticker will come right off.

  • @TheSecretWardrobe lol XD ya let me go try it!

  • did this video make anyone else horny?

  • best part is when he took off warranty sticker

  • Do you actually have to reassemble the whole xbox? Can't you just leave it apart to it can get cool air better?

  • @xww2 That's an awful idea to leave it open and bare. If you leave it completely open, dust will get into the components a million times more easily and you'll have cripplingly bad performance issues.

The case is there for a reason.

  • HELP.... Ive just done the fix as the video showed, and now im getting three lights flash instantly, i think its a hardware fault but everything is plugged back in .... Any suggestions ?

  • @reavo I loosened off the bolts and it seems to have done the job...

  • @reavo u have to do the towel trick one more time

  • thats fuckin retared i just over heated my xbox and add two fans and i work fine

  • Alternate title for video: Things to do while bored on meth.

  • last year i got the e74 and fixed it using this method, now i got the rrod, can i do the same thing to fix it?

  • why are the nylon and steel washers the same code?

  • i did this for a 1 ring fix, but the xbox only worked for a week!, can u plz help me

  • @KiLLERxPANDA1 that sucks :( maybe you could do it over?

  • @KiLLERxPANDA1 just buy a ps3

alot of people struggle with xbox's

people that got rrod (or other problems with xbox) - 54% of everyone that has ever bought xbox

people that got ylod on ps3 (or any other problem) - 2% of all ps3 users

  • Great video! I need to get some more washers to finish it. Question: Are you supposed to reinstall the X-Clamp?

  • D ebating on what to do. Read up to 19 pages of this thread to determine weather to try to fix my x-box seems that 50 percent are getting e-74 back. Question should I save some money and pay microsoft. I would think that I'd get some warranty out of it. Luv the x-box can wait up to 2 months or whtevr wait is.

  • I. LOVE. YOU. thank you SO much for this. I almost started crying because this actually worked. I thought I had lost my xbox forever! Thanks once again!!

  • I love how there's a scam comment for free microsft points but everyone who's watching this has a dead xbox they can't even use.

  • Lisen to when he says pathetic LMAO 16.22

  • if done properly, and you do a proper 'burn-in' following the procedure, it should be a long-term fix. microsoft uses a lead-free solder which is prone to hairline cracks under strain. the x-clamp, in time, introduces a bending moment which leads to the crack. replacing the x-clamp with the #5 bolts removes the flex. the controlled overheat cycle after the fix allows the hairline cracks to resolve, and, presto, a working x-box. i have used this exact technique in the past with excellent results.

  • Even if you manage to get it working, you will only solve it for short term! You get E74 error just because your box overheats. It's just an in built protection so you don't burn it down. By changing it's the thermal paste and reseting your box (removing the error), you wont make it run cooler. It's just logic, think about it! To solve it for good, you need to add additional cooling.

  • @TheRobcis Actually the Thermal Paste protects the GPU and CPU by keeping them cool by absorbing the heat. I actually flipped the fan to blow cool air in on the processors and it hasn't RRODed or e74. The only TRUE fix is to do a Reflow on the GPU and CPU.

  • @MrSolja13 Thermal paste does not protect anything, it's just a conductor. It transfers the heat, generated by the GPU and CPU, to the heatsink. The heatsink is then cooled by the fan generated airflow. Simple physics. I have done this fix and my box red ringed after a couple of days anyways. You need to hook up the stock fan with a 12 volt power source (because it only uses 5 volts through it's original connection). You would then get nearly triple the performance.

  • So what happens if the error comes back? Can I tighten the screws and heat it again?

  • Xboxsarerepairable he knows his shit.but this dude shows u how to mess up ur box 4 good

  • i dont know if u have any history in electronics, but the x clamps are not the problem ,if u use bolts then u will realize that ur motherboard will flex, and ur xbox will break again.so thats complete bull.

  • im fixing one as of right now ive modded my 360 inside and out which has six working fans two that are cpu heatsink fans and that was two years ago and its still working

  • bolt fix is just a bodge job that does not last that long you will actually bend your gpu out of shape using the bolt trick. its a bad idea. you really should just reflow the solder under the gpu

  • I got the same overheating problem.. What the fuck do I do?

  • guys I've got a problem. I've cleaned the stuff under the big cooling thing (I'm italian so I do not have all the names down right) but I've immediately had a 2 flashing led like it was overheated...but it wasn't indeed. Can it be because I didn't replaced the termic paste (artic silver something like that)? Because after I cleaned the old one I didn't acutually put the new one..

  • I've gone through 3 Xbox consoles within the past four years. The only good thing I can say about the whole experience is that they all failed within the warranty period. The first one was replaced by Amazon, because it was very new. The others failed within two years of purchase. I sent my current XBox to microsoft for this E74 error just this week. The previous two died from the RROD. I must say, this is a shoddy product. About what you would expect from Microsoft.

  • @HuntSeatRookie You need to let someone mod your xbox with bigger fans, and a custom hole in the top of xbox like I did,and I never get red ring, and sometimes I leave the xbox on while i sleep. You can also do the liquid cool stuff, but it's more expensive and bulky. Also I have this xbox modded for games, but no j-tag yet.

  • Why's it take so long to boot up?

  • emm it work for me without de nilon thing i juste deform de metal thing in form of X so i make more pressure with the radiator on the chip ( sorry for my bad english)

  • Thanks man I did everything and it worked good but it took me awhile to drill the holes but it still wrked and to help everyone else the towl thing does work but it works for a day. This one works way better

  • when he said to leave it on he meant the heat sync not the actual circuit board

  • a very important part of this fix that he didnt explain is that you have to clean the old thermal paste off of the circuit board

  • what did you use to widen the hole

  • Can I just go to the local hardware store and pick up these same bolts and washers?

  • All the system error E74 code is that something entered your console and you need to take it out. All you have to do is send in your xbox 360 to microsoft for free. Unless your to much of a game addict that you can't wait for two and a half weeks so it can get fixed! It is free no fee.

  • @Jonnyboy8008 Thats not true they charge you $100

  • @escalade9 if you don't have warrenty

  • best video yet

  • How many xbox360 controllers do you have?

  • Alright I used the thermal paste and now i have the exact same problem from when I started. One red light and an E74 message.

  • Okay so i followed all the steps, and now have two blinking lights and my fan automatically shuts off, is this because i didn’t use the thermal paste? and is that the only thing I have to do now to get It to work?

  • So will I or will I not need the thermal paste for this fix to work?

  • @redrave404 better use it! once u open it why not give a good clean up and change the paste!?

  • the towel formula from other tutorial worked for my elite try that 1st..

  • Hm the error screen on my xbox says "E 74" but the red ring is in a different place. Does that really matter>

  • I tried this and removed both x clamps. The washers dont fit next to each other in the 2 locations where bolts are adjacent to each other. It also wouldn't allow for the washers with just the one x clamp removed as well. Any suggestions?

  • bruh, this is a long ass video...tldw.

  • thanks for the turtorial i get the parts i need i have all the screwdivers and stuff to take it apart dont have the require stuff for it i just got the e74 two days again so i looking for ways to fix it and my warrenty it gone anyways so yeah

  • i did the eject and sync and i got 1-4-2-4? whats that.

  • i'm buying an xbox with an e74 error for 15 dollars. im so excited to try this out in a couple of days!!!

  • howd you get the 1--0-2-2 part to flash?

  • The fix didn't last for me. I kept having problems with the XBox working for a week or so and then it'd do the e74 thing again. It happened for the third time and the fix did not work again. Now there are 3 red lights when I turn it on and the fan immediately cuts out. Nothing shows up on the screen. Am I screwed at this point or is there another fix for this new problem?

  • bitch this shit only worked like for 2 days then tht shit came back on wtf?????!!!!!!!!!!

  • Followed the video using the same hardware and it worked great! I did clean off the contact area and added Arctic Silver 5 paste. It didn't boot right away, came up with the same e74 error but I let it run on the error screen with the fan placed just like the video for 15 minutes. After it cooled down it booted up perfectly.

Thanks a ton man, saved be a bunch of cash considering I just bought my daughter an Elite I wasn't ready to shell out for another console.

  • this looks like a good fix. hope i can fix mines got all the parts.

  • Holy cow it worked! I was a little skeptical when it didn't boot up right away like it did in your video, but after reading some of the other comments, even if the e74 message comes up, let it bake for 10 minutes. Shut it off, and then try it again! I hope the fix lasts!

  • Well, I would really like to thank you for all the help you have given me, instead of spending 100.00 to have Microsoft fix it, I was able to do it my self for a small price of the little hardware needed. Your video helped me a lot thank you friend!

  • worked for me so far

  • i try to start mine up and it overheats right away with 5 seconds, any suggestions

  • To all those who are going to attempt to fix their xbox in this method i would advise that you DO NOT fix it on your carpet. Static can kill your motherboard. Try to do it on a wooded table.

  • @notoriousvak is wooden floor the same?

  • @00JohnMarston You tell me darling ;)

  • @00JohnMarston Really?

  • For those of you getting the 2 rings almost instantly when you attempt to "cook" the Xbox, it is integral that you meticulously clean off the residual thermal paste. I used 99 percent isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs to clean. Then i applied the Arctic Silver 5. I bought this shitty thermal paste because Arctic 5 was sold out at my local electronics store and i neglected to clean off the residue the first time.

  • does the x-clamp fix actually mean removin one of the x-clamps...???

  • @aniruddhaist i removed both x-clamps when i performed the fix. you really don't need them.

  • gears 2 is the shit

  • This Tutorial here will show clearly how to fix your Xbox.

XBOX360FIXGUIDE.TK My Dad and I resolved ours implementing it.

  • they havent fixed it so they can keep stealin like 100 dollars from us

  • mine keeps getting it back wtf

  • Thanx bro I just hooked up my xbox and it booted right up! It took me a while to clean the thermal compound off the gpu with just isopropyl alcohol. but Im just letting it cool down after the bake to find out how much play it could take. Greatly appreciate it. keep up the good work.

  • My favorite part is when you make us watch you take out all of the screws.

  • @MrBagelzworth

For me, that part was actually extremely important. Most people omit this and that is stupid.

  • Lucky for me my xbox was refurbished and it already had the screws/washers installed but i noticed the bending in the mobo so i loosened up the screws and now it works like a charm.

  • I got rid of the e74 error and my xbox begins to start normally, then overheats and I get the 2 red rings. Any advice?

  • @SirTyballski use arctic silver and put it on the graphics card. its the thing under the heat sink u remove, the smaller one..

  • yo, I did everything step by step that you did and it still shows the E74 error. Any suggestions??

  • Hey appreciate it

  • thanks dude your legit in my book no homo

  • What can i do when it works but when i play a game the screen goes all weird and red lines and stuff

  • Don't screw any of the T8 screws back onto the CPU, and the 1 T10 (long silver) in the centre. Only the gold, and long silver T10's around the edge.

  • 3rd post... OK. I've found when I do the whole case up, the box overheats. It seem to be some or all of the T10 screws cause it to over heat. When it's sitting there with ll the case on, none of the screws done up, it works fine... strange, have a play.

  • The UK can get all these bolts, washers, and troq drives off Amazon.

Guys with the errors, i suggest just letting the Xbox motherboard sitting on your desk, and cook for 10-15 mins, like the vid, with the fan blowing INwards on the CPU. the thermal paste needs to 'set' and the heat to disperse though the graphics heat sinks. Even with the 2 or 1 red flash, just let it cook away. then swish off, and on again.

  • Firstly this will work. However, my XboX didn't boot straight away like the vid. I closed the case up, and got 2 red flashes.

Nearly gave up, but, stripped the box down to the Motherboard, and sat it there on my desk with just the DVD drive hooked up. placed the fan balanced over the DVD drive, and CPU heat sink, like the vid shows. I switched it on, and was still shown a single red flash (E74).

I then left it for 10mins, you'll hear the fan go crazy. Turned it off, back on, and booted fine.

  • Why so serious

  • after i put in the screws and shit it has e74 when i heat it up

  • omg i have now 2 red lichts

  • my xbox wont even heat up

  • my xbox has the e74 error message it has been taken apart in hope i could find a solution i did after about 6 hours of pissing about with things, right what i did was turn my xbox on wait for the error message turn it off dissconnect the dvd drive turned it back on now i had the one light like normal and a flashing one i left it for a bit turned it back off put the dvd drive back in turned it on and it fixed it... i think it may of just been a fluke but its worth a go i guesss hope it works :)

  • hey bitch it work for one day and then it broke

  • Is there anywhere in England that have these tools?

  • hey thanks for the help you save me 100 dollars

  • whats this iv been hearing about getting banned from xboxlive for disasembling the 360. does it sense the warrenty sticker? how can i avoid this

  • @lilwaltdh After you buy the xbox its yours you can do what ever the fuck you want to with it.

  • @lilwaltdh just try to put it back

  • Took half a day with the other half buying supplies, but this guide worked. Thanks muchly, friend. I was about to shell out $400 for a slim. Weird happening: no red before I reassembled, but after, I got three rings. Freaked out and ran to gamestop (closed) came home and tried booting again. It booted, and I'm playing again. Phew. Thanks again. Masterful.

  • couldnt you just get flatheads for the bolts replacing the x-clamps? if not do you just do that with a drill bit?
