  • Cardiac Glycosides are NOT alkaloids. Get your facts straight!

  • Alkaloids are a plant derived compound that is toxic or physiologically active, contains a nitrogen in a heterocyclic ring, is basic, has a complex structure, and is of limited distribution in the plant kingdom. Plants containing these alkaloids have been used throughout recorded history as poisons, but many of the alkaloids do have valuable pharmaceutical properties.

  • In the case of Cardiac Glycosides, they are derived from the plant Foxglove of which the best known species of the plant is Digitalis purpurea. Note that Digitalis is used in the preparation of Cardiac Glycosides, particularly digoxin.

  • The edge we got here is we can study alone... having a group study is very hard coz work schedules & etc. conflict on the study group time!
