I wish they would've kept the orig. soundtrack instead of the pop songs in the remake. The pop songs are good, but the orig. songs fit the mood of the game better.
@all the meguro haters: First off, Meguro did the music for both the remake, and the original, and second there's a difference between genuinely bad music, and music YOU don't like get it straight!
I actually like them both. The only thing that I REALLY miss in Persona PSP music wise would be the awakining legend song in the "battles" where they first gain their persona power.
I only know of one video of it on youtube, and the name's in Japanese. I favorited it though, so if you look in my channel, it's the one that has the Persona soundtrack cover, and the son is 1:25.
Late response, but I'm glad there's more who think that the remake's new music isn't as good as the original. I was majorly disappointed with the new music and sound effects. The original soundtrack created a certain mood... the new music isn't bad necessarily, but it all sounds similar and doesn't create the dark/mysterious mood that the original had. I don't think this game is appropriate to use JPop for.
I agree with the whole sounding similar thing... espcialy the dungon songs in the snow queen quest =/ i do not look foward to having to put up with hearing that in game tbh XD
Oh well the first 3-4 dungon songs are allright tho
Although I do like this version of Deva Yuga much better than the remake's, you can't call Meguro a bad composer just because he changed his style over the years. Also, you're focusing way too much on the J-Pop music of P3 and 4. Some of the best songs were beautiful and non-vocal like "Memories of the City." The style might be different than P1 and 2, but its still damn good music.
I can say whatever I want about him, and I'm saying he's a shitty composer. Undoubtedly, the worst of the Megami Tensei composers. In regards to the comment you deleted: I'm not ignorant. I know who composed what. I'd much rather have any of the composers from Persona 1 or 2 over Meguro (who, by the way, didn't contribute all that much to the Persona soundtrack. Deva Yuga is his magnum opus). The Persona 3 and 4 soundtracks were grating as hell, much like the games themselves.
The Persona PSP remake? This was to be expected. The samples I've heard are god-awful -- there's too much shitty Engrish J-pop. I pretty much expect anything from Shoji Meguro to suck , it's too bad he's Atlus' main composer.
I like his work on the other games. But the style of music he uses for persona is just awful! I only like one song on the new ost so far and its the Sebec underground dungeon music which wasnt the best in the original anyway.
The only music Shoji Meguro has ever done that wasn't god-awful was some of his work in the first Persona game, and Digital Devil Saga 2. "Hijiri" from Shin Megami Tensei III was awesome, but that's about it. I especially loathe his constant use of that shitty horn synth and god-awful Engrish J-pop. I wish Atlus would get some new blood, or bring back one of the better, older composers (fuck yeah, Tsukasa Masuko). They really should've just left the Persona soundtrack alone, as it was awesome.
I agree x 10. Persona 1's OST is one of my favs. My heart broke when i saw Meguro was "revamping" it. And Tsukasa Masuko was awsome. He would put Meguro back in his place. I also loved the dungeon themes from nocturne but Meguro doesnt want us to have them for some dumb reason >:(
Have you heard the work Masuko did in Jewel Summoner? I hope they make a classic-style Shin Megami Tensei game, maybe for the PSP or DS, and get Masuko to do the soundtrack, because clearly, he still has the ability to compose songs that sound Shin Megami Tensei-ish. Unfortunately, he's freelance, and I guess somewhat retired, so it's highly unlikely he'd do any work for Atlus, unless Cozy Okada was involved, and Okada left Atlus years ago, which explains the huge drop in quality of Atlus games.
You know that Shoji Meguro is the composer of the original Deva Yuga? Oh, and Tsukasa Masuko doesn't have anything to do with the awesomeness that is Megami Ibunroku Persona and Persona 2 (or Soul Hackers).
Female voice: "but to tell you the truth", "very popular", "for sightseeing", "any time", "it was a busy day", "wasn't it?", "I'm a little", "call my".
Male: "You can", "soap", "the water's clean for everyone to use", "plan to take you", "sightseeing". Two of the male voice samples were cropped weird by the composer, so I have a difficult time understanding what he's saying. Something like, "side the", and then, possibly, "towel". I believe there's one more male sample, but I forgot to save it, so I don't recall what it was.

I've heard that for the Persona 2 remake, they're allowing the option to play with the original soundtrack.

THIS IS THE BEST DUNGEON THEME IN ALL OF GAMING!

Meguro's soundtracks are pure weeaboo-bait. I don't think the Japanese even like it.

Yes! Those are two different things. And all the P1's new BGMs genuinely suck.
They are vomit inducing to put it mildly.

Haha, I love how all the people who milk their prostates to Shoji Meguro soundtracks have tried voting down comments that talk shit about him.

I agree 1000%, the JPop songs just don't do the originals justice at all.

@RaidouKuzunoha14 Hidehito Aoki composed this track. The booklet that comes with the soundtrack lists who did what.
