haha, love the pianist somewhere after 4:15 . He starts out in bank clerk mode but works himself up to a little grin. That's the point of music people! :D
And hats off for mr. David Lindley of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!
Six dislikes are they insane? This has to be one of the finest kick ass rock boogie call it what you like performances known to man, simply heaven, I felt movement in parts that have not moved for a long time, stupendatious.
Following your logic through, black people have no right to play Classical music then?
I haven't read anything nearways as stupid and racist as your comment since the segregation laws were abolished. Before your next post, please engage your brain - if you have one.
There's nobody cooler than David Lindley in music and that's been true since David first appeared on the music scene years ago.As a studio musician, nobody can even come close to his guitar wizardry.Rock 'n Roll it,Dave...you da' man!
In saw him do this tune in Santa Barbara in maybe 1984 but with Ian McLaughlin.on keys using a B3 with a electric piano on top ..........and then saw him in San Luis Obispo later on with the same keyboardist......both keyboardists are tops and Lindley is always super
Best version I've ever heard of this song, was in, believe it or not, White River, Ont. at the ONLY bar in town, totally rocked out the place!! That was in about 1982-83, So much fun!!! I wanted to buy me a mercury and cruise it up highway 17!!
I loved this song when it came out in 1980 or thereabouts. I played it LOUD over and over again. god, it made me happy!!! and now to see him playing the slide guitar....well, it makes me happy all over again!!! Thanks, David and thanks stealy for uploading this special video.
I loved this song when it came out in 1980 or thereabouts.....I played it LOUD over and over again and I it made me soooo happy. But now to see him playing the slide guitar....well, what a great experience"!!! Thanks, David!!!
1st time I saw DL was w/ Jackson Browne's band in 1972 @ my local college gym & also w/ Linda Ronstadt on the bill. Lindley literally blew the roof off that old gymnasium w/ his slide playing. Man, he is so good at his craft. Me being a huge Duane Allman fan thinking no one plays better electric slide than DA @ that time. Got most of DL's albums after that. It ain't the blues, but this guy can rock like there is no tomorrow.
Seeing David Lindley play live is one of those things in life that changes you forever. If you ever get the chance to see him play, take advantage of it.
David inspired me to start playing slide -him and Cooder - -i played guitar with sarah mclachlan for over 10 years and used lap steel on some of her tunes -
@seanashby65 It's the LA Sitar and Powerglide in many great records outta the years of GIANT men writing HUGE tunes so they grabbed David whose BIG HEAD is his trademark. Saw Him silently wailing like a branded Banshee behind so many fine performers never hogging the limelight, but enhancing it.
A lap steel right now would be a divine gift., He kicks this one square on OVERLOAD, Like Bluegrass only slicker.
I've seen him several times through the decades, If it has strings he can play it. This is El Rayo X in it's prime. He will be in Agoura CA in November with John Hammond another slide guru c ya der mon
It is funny how some people discard backing bands for not living up to a stars level of competence. Usually the "star" has hand picked these people for all of their qualities. Both musical and human qualities. The band is excactly what David wants them to be. The man is a musical veteran he knows what he is doing!
The bassist and guitarist aren't doing a bad job - they're just turned down WAY too low in the mix. I can make out snippets of the bass, can't hear the guitar at all.
Tiki torches at midnight is on John Hiatt,s Album dunno if its the one.Heard a live version with Ry cooder of Mercury blues which I like, worth a listen.
Every now and then I blow the dust off my Lenco, grab round in the back of the cupboard and drag out the El Rayo-X and DL LP. Wow- but the LP is better than this version. Especially when you turn the volume right up.
this bring back memories of the Rockpalast nights on TV. I saw many including a fantastic David Lindley show there. That band was even more tight then the band in this video.
yah we saw him live do that song every one was singing we blew the roof off ! im pretty sure its greasy his old band is caled El rayo x and he plays with hani naser saw them both live
Thanks. After searching a bit, that's who was on the album that came out then, but wasn't sure if he did the tour. Another guy who's been playing for decades with everybody, but somehow I missed. It's great how the cameraman keeps drifting away, then back, thinking his soloing is over after the first go around. This is just an incredible performance by DL and everybody. Thanks again.
@bouteluoa I'm tempted to think it's Billy Preston on the piano - sadly passed away June 2006. Can't be sure, though. It's certainly his style of playing.
Santa Cruz. Monterey... I used to live next to Sammy Hagar just South of Carmel...
Greasy Santa Cruz clubs like the Windjammer and Mo's Alley? I haven't been there for a while. I did see Dave in Los Angeles and S.F. The shows were great, so was the booze.
I saw David Lindley at several small venues too, got in trouble for dancing to this one at the old Golden Bear in Huntington Beach! Hard to sit down when he's rockin on stage. Always a great show, always filled with surprises and great jamms! Love his array of instruments and classic songs he has new versions of his own. One of my favorite live artists & I've seen literally 100's of concerts!
the guitarist is great, one of the best i have ever seen play...hey i heard about that sit down at shows stuff in the usa-can really impede the showgoing experience...
