  • Jackson Browne without David Lindley would have been Jackson Bland.

  • haha, love the pianist somewhere after 4:15 . He starts out in bank clerk mode but works himself up to a little grin. That's the point of music people! :D

And hats off for mr. David Lindley of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!

  • This is hot for starters but check out the awesome closer at Loreley 82 which I've just posted;man does it sizzle,it burns....it really revs!!!

  • Outrageous performance! I'm on my knees thanking y'all!!!

  • Six dislikes are they insane? This has to be one of the finest kick ass rock boogie call it what you like performances known to man, simply heaven, I felt movement in parts that have not moved for a long time, stupendatious.

  • White guys playing the blues??? George Carlin was right; they have no right to play them. At least they got 1/5 right.

  • @GroffinTiffin

Following your logic through, black people have no right to play Classical music then?

I haven't read anything nearways as stupid and racist as your comment since the segregation laws were abolished. Before your next post, please engage your brain - if you have one.

  • There's nobody cooler than David Lindley in music and that's been true since David first appeared on the music scene years ago.As a studio musician, nobody can even come close to his guitar wizardry.Rock 'n Roll it,Dave...you da' man!

  • Awesomeeeee!!!

  • tooooo goood

  • In saw him do this tune in Santa Barbara in maybe 1984 but with Ian McLaughlin.on keys using a B3 with a electric piano on top ..........and then saw him in San Luis Obispo later on with the same keyboardist......both keyboardists are tops and Lindley is always super

  • scaythingly bodaycious

  • OK, my boognish has been stolen! Never heard of David Lindley, but if the pedal steel guitar is as hard to play as I've read, he's excellent.

  • Best version I've ever heard of this song, was in, believe it or not, White River, Ont. at the ONLY bar in town, totally rocked out the place!! That was in about 1982-83, So much fun!!! I wanted to buy me a mercury and cruise it up highway 17!!

  • what i would like to hear/see would be david and el-rayo-x w/ robert randolph y family band, hey?

  • very very greasy!

  • @jaycatvt very greasy indeed

  • Drums rock it along. Piano solo great, David fantastic......

  • David would be welcome at House of God Holiness Sacred Steel Conventions.

  • I loved this song when it came out in 1980 or thereabouts.....I played it LOUD over and over again and I it made me soooo happy. But now to see him playing the slide guitar....well, what a great experience"!!! Thanks, David!!!

  • i was there......i remember the shirts now.

  • anyone know what tuning this is? thanks in advance!

  • I just love it! That' exactly the kind of music i need for building me up and warming my heart! Wonderful video!

  • To who ever here talk about country music; David Lindley has never been a country music artist

  • To who ever here talk about country music; David Lindley has never been a country music artist

  • Talent like that should not be on such a small stage. Kickass slide

  • country music is gay!!

  • Is that Steve Chen?

  • Wow, this is wonderful...oh my god!

  • 1st time I saw DL was w/ Jackson Browne's band in 1972 @ my local college gym & also w/ Linda Ronstadt on the bill. Lindley literally blew the roof off that old gymnasium w/ his slide playing. Man, he is so good at his craft. Me being a huge Duane Allman fan thinking no one plays better electric slide than DA @ that time. Got most of DL's albums after that. It ain't the blues, but this guy can rock like there is no tomorrow.

  • @rwm48 yeah DA stands alone but DL's pedal steel seat could sit right

next to him and that's a fact

  • ...is that Shane Theriot with Dave? Nice jam!!!!

  • Almost fancy him on this, lol !!!

  • have a kick straight in the nads,go my man you are the kiddy

  • My Mecury just picked up 100 horsepower from that song!

  • Great!

  • Harpos Victoria..he kicked ass in the 90's!!!!

  • Seeing David Lindley play live is one of those things in life that changes you forever. If you ever get the chance to see him play, take advantage of it.

  • David inspired me to start playing slide -him and Cooder - -i played guitar with sarah mclachlan for over 10 years and used lap steel on some of her tunes -

    thanks David Lindley

  • @seanashby65 It's the LA Sitar and Powerglide in many great records outta the years of GIANT men writing HUGE tunes so they grabbed David whose BIG HEAD is his trademark. Saw Him silently wailing like a branded Banshee behind so many fine performers never hogging the limelight, but enhancing it.

A lap steel right now would be a divine gift., He kicks this one square on OVERLOAD, Like Bluegrass only slicker.

  • That's the late great Smitty on keyboards. Long live Smitty.

  • Hehe... Great.

  • I like the fact that every musician gets a shot at the limelight..not just one starstruck idiot..well done.

  • I've seen him several times through the decades, If it has strings he can play it. This is El Rayo X in it's prime. He will be in Agoura CA in November with John Hammond another slide guru c ya der mon

  • It is funny how some people discard backing bands for not living up to a stars level of competence. Usually the "star" has hand picked these people for all of their qualities. Both musical and human qualities. The band is excactly what David wants them to be. The man is a musical veteran he knows what he is doing!

  • The bassist and guitarist aren't doing a bad job - they're just turned down WAY too low in the mix. I can make out snippets of the bass, can't hear the guitar at all.

    Then sound man's fault.

  • Genius!!!

  • Eleven stars Mr. Dave.

  • with the shirts he has he better rock! lol i love'm

  • Lindley's playing is great and the keyboardist is hot but the rest of the band doesn't match up at all.

  • The backing does their job ... Dave is the star and he let the key player shine too .. pretty cool in my book :)

  • Good call, HeadNegro. That rhythm section needs a little grease.

  • @Birkebine OMG!! F0r real?? Not a very appropriate thing to say! Who would say that, unless they;re an idiot! OMG!

  • Tiki torches at midnight is on John Hiatt,s Album dunno if its the one.Heard a live version with Ry cooder of Mercury blues which I like, worth a listen.

  • Saw him in 82 I think, great concert

  • Every now and then I blow the dust off my Lenco, grab round in the back of the cupboard and drag out the El Rayo-X and DL LP. Wow- but the LP is better than this version. Especially when you turn the volume right up.

  • My friend Rob better like this or I'm going to kill him. It has the WoW Factor.........Cream Pie.........

  • Tiki Torches at Twilight comes off of Very Greasy 1987 I think

  • this bring back memories of the Rockpalast nights on TV. I saw many including a fantastic David Lindley show there. That band was even more tight then the band in this video.

  • David sounds great.....i'm trying to find a recording of his "Tiki Torches at Twilight" . Does anyone know this song?

  • yah we saw him live do that song every one was singing we blew the roof off ! im pretty sure its greasy his old band is caled El rayo x and he plays with hani naser saw them both live

  • Uncomparable..!!!!!!!!!!!

Im out of words..never heard of him till now. what other popular songs does he have...?

  • You can see him in Jackson Browne's Loadout/Stay vids and Stay in Gardone vid.

  • bring it back to charlotte

  • The samurai of slide!!! Always has been; always will be.

  • @jabuendia1 Good analogy, he's one of the best guitarist/string benders

    of many times...

Love his 80:s tunes(that is the most of them...)

  • Stunning.

  • mr. dave is the best.

  • A Legend lives. Thanks DL TOP

    Video and SONG !!! Great

  • Bass player looks NOTHING like Billy Sheehan..I mean NOTHING!

  • Is there any wat I could get an MP3 of this? Was it recorded?

    Thanks...

  • Thanks for sharing this great music!

  • Who the fuck is this guy? OMG! He's Warren Zevon and Jackson Browne's runner!!!

    Chris said this.

  • anyone know who's on piano?

  • William "Smitty" Smith

  • Thanks. After searching a bit, that's who was on the album that came out then, but wasn't sure if he did the tour. Another guy who's been playing for decades with everybody, but somehow I missed. It's great how the cameraman keeps drifting away, then back, thinking his soloing is over after the first go around. This is just an incredible performance by DL and everybody. Thanks again.

  • Do you have any stuff with Dave and Hani Naser???

  • @bouteluoa I'm tempted to think it's Billy Preston on the piano - sadly passed away June 2006. Can't be sure, though. It's certainly his style of playing.

  • The genius of Mr Dave !!!

  • one of the good versions of this song, fast becoming a real classic.

  • That shiat purely rawked.

Anyone who disagrees is an assmunch.

    5 stars and faved.

    Ta fer the upload.

    Be Well.

  • absolut det bästa i musikens värld, det svänger

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

    Way beyond compare!

  • If you don't give this 5 stars DON'T EVEN TALK TO ME !!!

  • Sick slide guitar!

  • Fan-tas-ti-que !

    Je répète :

    FAN-TAS-TI-QUE !!!

  • Hey Linda - does this bring back some memories, or what!!!!?

  • Mr. Dave. Seeing him Friday. And hope to shake his hand,

  • David, if you're reading this, come over to Hattersheim to play please!

  • Hell yeah this is one of the best ive heard !!!

  • damn he's amazing!!!!!!!

  • DL RAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Inni innerste hælvete som dette svinger!!!!!!!!

  • J'adore !

  • He's the best Rock and Roll lap steel player I've ever heard.

  • He's pretty damned good, all right. And manages to sing at the same time, too. Yeesh.

  • Just saw David last night in Bishop, CA. It was an awesome show. One of the best performances I have ever seen.

  • Don't you mean stealyourborsht? It happened to me twice. Good post.

  • Sweet! I saw him in really small clubs in Santa Cruz (Very Greasy) and then opening for the Grateful Dead at Laguna Seca in the 80's.

No matter what, he rocks the house!

  • The Catalyst shows are among the BEST !!!!!

  • The Catalyst isn't bad if you don't mind the stinky hippies or the goofy people in that town.

  • The bass player looks like the guy from the Rod Stewart band -Hot Legs era..Billie ?

  • Billie Sheehan?

  • No, that Billy was with "Mr Big" and David Lee Roth. I'm going to have to drag out my old Rod Stewart albums

  • Santa Cruz. Monterey... I used to live next to Sammy Hagar just South of Carmel...

Greasy Santa Cruz clubs like the Windjammer and Mo's Alley? I haven't been there for a while. I did see Dave in Los Angeles and S.F. The shows were great, so was the booze.

  • I saw David Lindley at several small venues too, got in trouble for dancing to this one at the old Golden Bear in Huntington Beach! Hard to sit down when he's rockin on stage. Always a great show, always filled with surprises and great jamms! Love his array of instruments and classic songs he has new versions of his own. One of my favorite live artists & I've seen literally 100's of concerts!

  • the guitarist is great, one of the best i have ever seen play...hey i heard about that sit down at shows stuff in the usa-can really impede the showgoing experience...

  • got that right and seems to make a lasting impression on the ushers, if you know what I mean!:>

  • I've had the pleasure of seeing David live in a small venue. It's definitely something I will try to repeat.

  • a faire pleurer zz top.ce mec est un croisement de elmore james, georges thorogood, john cipolina et johnny winter sous amphetamines.un tres grand monsieur.

  • sous amphétamines.. he he, très bien.., nicely put. Je comprends que tu veux dire.

  • いいです!!

  • I'm 36 & started listening to David Lindley at about age 9 or 10. Pretty cool to have all this at my fingertips. Keep rockin Dave, you're by no doubt one of the string elites.

  • this guy is so under rated.

  • Right. What a shame.
