I am not a MT fan but this is an excellent series. A track test is always the best way to show an overall performance potential of a car. I also like Randy Post , it was cool to see is hand positions through turns and listen to his comments at the end.
Well, the Cayman is not that much slower in acceleration than the Camaro SS these days. The Cayman traps in the 1/4 mile around 109mph to the Camaro's 110-112 mph.
I feel that the Camaro did pretty well actually @ a 1:45.7xx on Laguna Seca with its really narrow front tires (245's on a 3800lb car?!) and you can get one for around $31k NEW.
A few choice handling mods will transform the Camaro into a much more balanced car overall.

I think he would have liked it more had they driven the 6. Obviously it would have been slower, but the V8 is horribly unbalanced. The Zeta platform was intended for 4 door V8s like the G8, VXR8 etc. A 2 door Zeta based car is simply too nose heavy with a big engine like that. Youd really have to do a transverse mounted, smaller displacement, turbo V6 like Audi used to do to get this thing decently balanced.

Camaro will sell well the first year, but Ford is gettign strong sales because they didn't get bailed out, they've got good designs, and mustangs are better handling, more fun than the camaro. Both are typical American non-track type cars, more stoplight cars, but at least the mustang tries.

IRS in the Camaro sucks compared to the solid axle in the Mustang. not to say that the IRS in the Camaro can be better because with the right set up it could be alot better. if i was racing on a track, yeah i would want IRS, but for everyday use, 1/4mi and street racing.. live axle is lighter, cheaper, and in some cases (like this one) is just better

Seroyer2, I can assure you Ford has learned a lot of how to set up a car from its European division as they are way ahead on that department, even Japan cant touch them thats why they use Porsche's and BMW's as benchmarks. i think Ford is already doing much better than the competition, top safety ratings on every car in its line up, and top quality i think better than toyota. but i do like the live axle, its lighter, less expensive and i just like the way it handles over the IRS. but on the other hand if i was racing like this i would probably want the IRS

IRS in the Camaro sucks compared to the solid axle in the Mustang. not to say that the IRS in the Camaro can be better because with the right set up it could be alot better. if i was racing on a track, yeah i would want IRS, but for everyday use, 1/4mi and street racing.. live axle is lighter, cheaper, and in some cases (like this one) is just better

Car i was quoting was a koenigsegg 4.2 V8 with 1018 BHP stock, running on bio fuel. 6.2 litre & economy don't come in the same sentence, if the UK built Caterham R500 can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and STILL do 40 MPG, then what can this thing do? I never understood why the US didn't break the mold and start building fast AND economical cars, that are built like those is Europe and can at the very least take a bend with out over steering? Just watch a vid of the GTR, half the engine size, more BHP.
