I am in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho 3-4 months every year. I spent 8 weeks hiking in Alaska in 2006. I have encountered a good number of Black and Brown bear and not had a problem. Most knew where we were and what were. They kept their distance or moved off. BUT, having a couple of cans of UDAP along felt comforting. Canadian customs lets UDAP cross into Canada. Not all pepper spray is Canadian approved. I just wish I didn't have to buy fresh cans of UDAP every 2 years. Electric fences WORK!!
Man I would definately be more wary of a cougar vs grizzley. Would NEVER go west backpacking without some protection (I like the idea of strong bear spray). And I LOVE the idea of the electric fence. Especially for the cougars. Would be interesting to know how it'd work in the rain haha.
The most powerful marketing tools are credibility and simple, effective demonstration of the product. He brings both to the table. A lot of Madison Avenue advertising wizards could learn a lesson from this man.
Watch this video and you're left with no doubt that he's sincere about making and selling a superior product. He inspires trust, which in turn inspires people to open their wallets.
Well done.
If I'm ever in the market for bear spray, I'm definitely buying yours.
these bear sprays should be treated as necessities, and I believe they contain mother nature's recipes, and they truly allow me to forget about my troubles and my strife.
I like the last the scene in this video especially the Bible verse. The Lord had allowed him to live to tell his testimony and create these products. May God bless, protect, and prosper him. "Wisdom is better than strength" - Ecclesiastes 9:16. Praise the Lord God.
This is interesting. I never knew until recently that such a product as bear spray even existed. But now that I know it exists, I'll DEFINITELY get some if I ever camp in bear country (which I'm planning on doing at some point...either in the Western U.S. or Canada). Really, one has to be a FOOL to roam around bear country without this stuff. You just NEVER KNOW.
I've always used UDAP bear spray while doing extensive backpacking in Montana. I never had to use it - but the spray that my wife and I each carried was some reassurance in grizzly country! I almost had to use it on a moose! Thankfully - the tests show that it's also effective for moose - even cougars. I wouldn't hike/backpack/camp without it.
Pepper sprays are mostly rated by O.C. (Oleoresin Capsicum). Bear Spray is rated by CRC (Capsaicin and related Capsaicinoids). The CRC rating in Pepper Spray is the only true way to tell how hot the product is. This is why Pepper Spray companies will not use this rating system. It can't be exagerated. A 10% OC spray can be much hotter than a 20% OC spray.
The CRC is the actual active ingredient for hotness. Our bear spray is rated at 2.0%. The Hottest that Bear Spray gets. Much hotter than pepper sprays which fall between .18% and 1.34% CRC.
@painfull94 Ask Fox how much Capsaicin and Related Capsaicinoids are in their spray. Not OC but Major Capsaicinoids (MC) my guess is .67%. This is really not that strong for pepper spray and it is UDAP's weakest formula. All of UDAP sprays are as hot as or hotter than Fox. Our bear spray is 10% OC with 2.0% MC. This is hotter than all other brands personal sprays.
I totally agree with you on the fact that pepper spray works much better than a gun, seeing as with the spray you're disturbing the bears senses like his sight and smell, when you shoot it, well first off all you'd have to be fast enough to aim properly and hit it, then secondly if you don't hit it in a good spot, it will just keep coming at you because then it's also mad at you for hurting it, that's what I think at least
Very informative! What a nice guy, I'm happy he lived through the horrifying attack and made a business out of protecting others. If I ever require a bear spray, I would go with UDAP.
UDAP Bear Spray has 2% CRC Capsaicin and related Capsaiciniods. This is as hot as bear spray gets. 2%CRC is Hotter than regular pepper sprays. Except for one! The UDAP Clip-On Commander #4CO has 3% CRC and is the hottest pepper spray in the world.
CRC Capsaicin and related Capsaicinoids are the chemical components of peppers that make them hot. Measuring CRCs is a laboratory conducted and very accurate test for gauging hotness.
OC Oleoresin Capsicum is the oil extracted from the pepper that contains within it the capsaicin and related capsaicinoids. This is not how to rate the hotness of a spray. A 10% O.C. can be much hotter than a 20%.
SHU Scoville Heat Units Measuring by SHUs is a subjective taste test. Pepper spray companies always rate their spray this way. The problem with SHU is they are measuring the SHU rating for the O.C. and not the contents of the can. This means companies use an O.C. rated at 5 million SHU and it sounds extremely hot, but then they don't put much of it in the can of pepper spray so it really is misleading and ends up not hot at all. Don't be mislead by exaggerated claims.
I carry bearspray with me when mountain biking in the bush. Never had to use it yet, but I want to be ready just in casse. I also carry a large bowie, but regard the spray as my first line of defense. When on foot I take my two livestock guardian dogs--Kuvasz--I feel they are my best defense of all.
I maced myself with this product by accident (don't ask lol) WORST thing I have ever experienced hands down!!!!!

Agree.
I felt like I was watching a man, who has been there, done that, and wants the good stuff for his own family. I think I will be buying his product.

How "Hot" is "Hot"?

Most companies will not list the CRC rating for thier product as then they would not be able to exagerate their claims.

Id use bear spray and a gun if its windy or rainy the spray may not work so well how ever that spray is awesome.
subysuby 2 years ago
You are 12x more likely to be harmed in a bear attack using a gun compared to Bear Spray.
Information is from a study by Forest Service in Alaska

why didnt one of you grab your bow? im not trying to be a smart ass. did it all just happen too quick?
Lspurls18 2 years ago
yep - a bow is not like a gun- you just aim and pull the trigger
unless your a veteran bowman or From Wales /Welsh ; )
most people cant use bows well when in a panic/stress situation.
alikos88 2 years ago
@Lspurls18
Mark only had a long bow.

@Lspurls18 The enitre encounter from the time the bear was seen to the end of the attack was only about 20 seconds.
