can anyone give me a little info on the world championships? how much does it cost to enter? is it a big event, or does it take place in a middle school gym? what are the prizes? any info would be great, as my team has been thinking about signing up, but the ndl website doesnt say anything about it
@robomattster it takes place at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy in Las Vegas. The main gym is a little bit bigger than four basketball courts and bleachers put together to accommodate everyone (last year there were 71 teams). The last time there was a cash prize was 2009, but who knows about this year. And yes, it does cost money, but I don't remember how much. You can actually find out more at dodgeballworldchampionship . com once the 2011 recap goes down and the 2012 stuff goes up.
My casual once a week team and the teams we play against play better than these boring fucks. Not entertaining and deff not true sportsmen, "everyone we have one more player 30 seconds in, lets stall for the rest of the game".
Dodgeball, when you think about it, is very unique. Its structure inherently lends itself to slower play. Unlike basketball, football, or pretty much any other popular sport, there aren't discrete phases of play. With an average distribution of balls (i.e., at least one per side), attacking and defending happens simultaneously. It's more of waiting for an opportunity and less telegenic.
So we'd love to see you come out to Vegas next year! Show us how you play!
@arushdball Pay for me to come an I would ;) Opportunities happen in the game much quicker if you make them by getting stuck in, if the other team is standing around stalling, attack, half the time they don't seem to be ready. If they attack and you have a ball counter, if your quick enough. For example between 0:25 and 0:45 I would of owned the shit out of the guy on the right and the guy second from left with his hands in his pockets. Our team often finishes off the other team in under 1 min.
@MadmanCm the clarity with which you argue is simply astounding. Truth be told, I was just trying to be nice. Show us, don't tell us. Otherwise, these are just impotent words.
Might be a stupid question, but i was thinking about buying some of the 8.5" balls for youth group to play. Are they easy to grip? with 1 hand? thanks
@SpringgBok I guess it really depends on the age. Most high school-aged kids should be fine, but younger than that may have trouble palming the entire ball. If they do find it difficult, though, you could always just under inflate the balls just a bit to make them slightly squishier and a tad smaller.
im sorry but who ever is filming this has shaky hands like bad

@21thesmith haha, yeah. Standing on a bleacher with an iPhone doesn't usually yield the best results.

@arushdball And at 2:17 the guy didn't even try.

This seems.. entertaining. Somewhat. Lots of stalling.

@AFitz1174 yeah, this is definitely one of the slowest games we've ever played. Average games usually only go for two to three minutes.
