Sneaking must be learned, it costs 5 LP and only then you can crouch, there are also rings that grant you the skill :) As for avoiding monsters, you can either side step, hit with the weapon then quickly press right/left or use a shield. Things will get a lot easier when you get a higher lvl with the weapon of your choice and when you get better armor. In time you'll also find that you leaned the patterns by which the monsters attack, further making things easier :)

i just got the game and i find it very hard to avoid monsters attacks.. did you have the same problem?
and for some reason i cant Sneak/down.. :/
