It was the spring of '83...my girfriend and i were going through a rough patch (my fault) and THAT SONG reminded me how lucky i was to have someone who really loved me...we went on to later get married, have a beautiful daughter...we later weathered some storms that seperated us but we were finding our way back together again this past summer when she passed (generalised cancer) on september 26th at 44,just like Laura...France,Laura,may you both rest in peace...
Will Generation Y and Generation Z ever get this new experience in non Autotune Global Music Industry or Pre Simon Cowell American Idol Era??? Sadly never.
The Older People & Our Parents used to say the 1960s,1970s and 1980s were the "Me Generation".
That should actually mean todays Generation the 1990s,2000s,and 2010s in Music,Sports,Entertainment Industries, and Everything Else in the Non-Third World Nations. Spoiled brat morally airhead punks who are lost and have no soul or value of life. Like is eternally more than just about greed, pride, material, substance, and just about me in the center of the universe.
I remember when my parents used to play this song when I was only 3-4 years old. At about 2:06 I would get really excited and got up off the couch because I new what was coming! and by 2:27 my face would begin to turn red as I sang (screamed) out the song sometimes to tears as Laura's Awesome Powerful Voice Even at that young age just blew me away!! and still does to this day! I was a kid who really loved music! I feel really sorry for kids today with all the trash that they produce now!
what a wonderful alto voice, with 4 octaves!! It was 1983 and I was a Junior in High School and I remember this song. So rich so, powerful and what a great loss that she left us Branigan died at her home on Long Island, New York, on August 26, 2004. Her death was attributed to a previously undiagnosed brain aneurysm. I miss her so much! Her music was a part of my teen years
Man, what a lovely woman with a rich voice. Miss you, Laura. RIP.
I remember this song from the spring of '83, a freshman in high school.
No girlfriend then, but I remember how hopeful and positive I felt about the future.
Its now 2011, and I'm disgusted by the present and dread the future. So much of our culture (especially popular music) and our values have gone down the crapper imho. These virtual trips down memory lane help ease the angst a bit.
@DestroyerofSouls666 - You are Right on the money. I could not have said it any better. In the spring of 1983, I was just finishing 6th grade, excited and nervous about going on to Jr. High School. I looked forward to the future and to being an adult and having a family. Now, in 2011, I am disgusted (and scared) by the present and I dread the future, completely alone in life. Brilliantly said. If u'r a man, and you don't have money, like me, .. well, the future holds only alone-ness.
@groofoot ---thanks, groofoot. While I'm fortunate from a material standpoint, it is not as relevant as you might think. Don't get me wrong, poverty sucks, but do take a look at all the "happily married" couples who are divorcing right now due to the recession. They took the vow "for better or for worse" when they walked down the aisle, but when they had to downsize from their SUV, McMansion and eating out, they bailed out on the marriage quick. I know its painful, brother, but hang in there.

i always felt that laura branigan was a unique cross mix between pat benatar, irene cara, and rachel sweet.
even though laura is the only one of the 4 who has passed away, you dont even hear from the other 3 who are alive anymore.
