I absolutely love this effect. Unfortunately, it's been revealed on youtube :\ wish youtube would do something about all that. Either way, it's a greeeat trick!
Yes this is my long time friend David Neighbor's creation and I agree with you Sumner... I have gotten lots of Credit for this routine since I began marketing it for Dave, I have to keep sending letters to reviewers to get that straight. Dave's notes and books are worth their weight in gold to me!
Actually, it's David's trick, Solano's performance. It's a nice ad for David's stuff. He's brilliant and totally under-rated. Some hack like Copperfield gets all the glory and money, and has no real skill. Neighbors' is a card and coin god; because he's left-handed, you are always looking at the wrong spot, and he's constantly spewing the absolute worst puns at you the whole time, which works really great at breaking your concentration.
@SumnerClaridge Can't say I think DC is a hack... but I do agree with you on Dave, he's underrated and quite brilliant. Much of my income has been because of many of his choice effects that have become staples in my work, they are some of the most requested...
@bagdini I've known Neighbors for over 20 years. I was sitting in a Denny's when I heard a commotion, and it was him performing some effects. I had done slights when I was a kid and was totally blown. I asked him what books he had written, and he hadn't done any, so, over a couple of weeks he showed me some of his favorite stuff at the time, and the book I wrote became 'Coinjuring.' I still find it in shops to this day; timeless effects from a Master.
Very cool! I was one of the first to help get his books in the shops in LA. I was working in a Magic Shop, this guy walks in wants to sell his book, I'm thinking "okay, whatever" he showed me "Sandy" first. I bought several and began hosting lectures at my apt. coinjuring had just come out! I must have dozens of hours of stuff of him at my apt just going on and on. Are you a Coloradoan?
