I hate it when the media try to make it seem like Chinese people eat dogs as much as KFC or McDonald'sbut it's not even close. It has come to the point where I try to explain to non-asians about eating dogs and they won't even believe my own culture. No one in my family eats dogs and even though there's not law against eating dogs, it's a choice. The same as other animal slaughtering such as seal hunting.

There is nothing racist about animal cruelty, it is a systematic abuse of animals that existed in every part of the world as long as people keep indulging themself with meat based diet. Instead of blaming others being racist, get a grip and do something different and make a better change!
I guess racist or not its entirely depends on how you choose to see it. But as for me I tend to look beyond the racisals conflict and focus on the animal issues. As for the cuteness matter, there is an old saying goes "Just everybody loves beef doesn't mean they want to meet the cow" I think it has nothing to do with the cuteness, rather of how well we know about certain animals and the relationship we willing to share.
No matter if we are vegan or vegetarian, we still cannot shake off the fact that we are harvasting food while destorying living things. And we want to be a little more righteous on this matter, I guess we need to follow the examples of the American Indian's ancesstor; giving sincere thinks to the lives that gave up for sustain us everytime we harvasting food, taking care of the animals and plants the best we can.

Having said that I think dogs are a cut above the rest of them. I hate it when the media try to make it seem like Chinese people eat dogs as much as KFC or McDonald'sbut it's not even close. It has come to the point where I try to explain to non-asians about eating dogs and they won't even believe my own culture. No one in my family eats dogs and even though there's not law against eating dogs, it's a choice. The same as other animal slaughtering such as seal hunting.

There is an all pervasive culture of animal cruelty in human cultinary traditions, and I was too coward to speak up as a young boy. Have you ever hear a dying dog whimpering? I heard it when I was around 10 and I never forget it! One of my oldest relatives used a club 'murdered' one of her dogs to entertain her dog-eating friends. Forturnately I did not sit with the gorwn up at dinner because that's where the dog meat hot pot dish served. I wasn't sure if my parents eat it, but I couldn't help feeling disgust and haterd toward their behaviour. My mother demanded an apology to them, and I did not make any reply to her demand.

It is an old cultinary tradition exist both in China and Korea. And it is an ever presence blackmark the new generation have to face. It reminds me of a Chinese restaurant I visit during a short trip in Guangzhou, at front it looks just like an ordinary restaurant, but at the back I saw collums of small cages, pack with cats, dogs, and snakes as well. I stayed there, pacing back and forth trying to come up plans to free them. But I was only a 14 Chinese boy, alone without any supports to fight.

As for the cuteness matter, there is an old saying goes "Just everybody loves beef doesn't mean they want to meet the cow" I think it has nothing to do with the cuteness, rather of how well we know about certain animals and the relationship we willing to share.

I have a lot of issues with the meat industry and how callously they kill not only pigs but cows, sheep, chickens and other animals.
Having said that I think dogs are a cut above the rest of them. When was the last time a pig saved a person's life? guarded a family in their home? helped police locate drugs? guided a blind person? helped a paralyzed person live a better life. Dogs are sentient creatures with a special bond to humans. So, yeah, they deserve a litte more consideration.

Don't think all Chinese are like this. It is the government officials in the provinces and towns that order these killings. Many Chinese have and love pets. It is changing there but the governments are still a problem.

Jurasko1, You miss the point. Treating dogs and cats brutally and killing them in barbaric ways is not OK --- just because people eat meat. That is not a justification for treating one of the best animals on the planet as nothing more than an insect. Animals of all types should be treated much better but the Chinese treatment of dogs and cats is satanic. The world is always going to eat meat but we must insist on as much humane treatment as possible.

I can only agree on this. However, leaving other animals (cows, pig, ..u name it) out of this is plane ingnorance. Why would cats and dogs be more special than cows??? Cats and dogs can be raised to be eaten just as are cows. The killings should nevertheless be humane.

You miss the the point. Nobody is "leaving out" any animals. This is just ANOTHE EXAMPLE of how ghoulish and insanely callous and cruelty certain people are. I agree with you that all animals deserve respect and consideration but I am not going to shut up about the dog culls and dog meat markets until the cow situation is fixed.
