Cave Johnson and Caroline were gonelong before the more advanced test chambers. Chell, appearing to be in her 20s, would not have been born back then. The woman in the picture IS Caroline, not Chell's mother. Cave Johnson died from consuming the moon rock gel. He did not become the ratman, who is a completely different person. The bring your daughter to work day event took place in the newer test chambers. Yes, Chell was one of the daughters who made one of the potato experiments

Ratman is really named Dave Rattmann or something and was working on the GLaDOS project. Ratman makes sure Chell gets to be the next test subject because he knows only she could kill GLaDOS. Down in Old Aperture, GLaDOS doesn't behave like someone who is remembering a past life, but more remembering that there's another consciousness in there.

@airbendingavatar1 SPOILERS, BUT well, yeah, GLaDOS has evolved since Caroline, but there is a point in the game where Cave johnson says on his death bed that he's leaving the plant to Caroline and that they really should research AI so she can take over permanently as a robot, hence GLaDOS=Caroline. But since GLaDOS deletes the Caroline part of her I'm left to believe that Caroline is just GLaDOS's memories/personality before becoming a robot, but I still think they are one consciousness.

For anyone wondering, Chell is Cave's daughter! The potato room- the overgrown potato is signed by Chell! And look at the ingredients: ''Special ingredients from dads work''... Those are the moon rocks that made Cave Deathly ill! The moon rocks speed up aging! That's why Chell is full grown in Portal 1, and only stasis stops the aging! GLaDOS (Caroline) mentioned ''you've got your short life left'' and ''you're someone else's problem now''!

More likely she was one of the employees' step-daughter (GLaDOS mentioned she was adopted, even when she's a potato, and Wheatley mentioned it too at one point). Besides, the potato room was located in more modern, post-Cave Johnson era part of the facility.

The moon rocks sped up her aging, and Chell was put in stasis until Portal 1.She is awakened and stops GLaDOS, then put back in stasis by Rattmann. In Portal 2 She is re-awakened from stasis again. Chell could be Cave's daughter, at least I think so.
