About "Observe & Report". When you said that just because something is different or an indie, that doesn't make it worth your time. Thank you for pointing that out! That's my problem with the acclaim of "Slumdog Millionaire". Everyone tells me that it's great "because it's from India" or "because it's an underdog story". BULLSHIT! "The Karate Kid" is an underdog story, & I didn't see a Best Picture nomination out of that!
I will admit I saw dragon ball but only because me and my friends had a bet and I lost XP but now I can say first hand this sucks ass they don't stay even remotely close to the to the story so just watch the TV show :)
When I saw the DBZ evolution I said "What the Hell?! " All my friend wanted to watch it opening night to see how bad it would be, but I said I wasn't going to give Hwood the satisfation of my money for a piece of crap. I am goin to watch it when it hits the dollar movies in my city
I hated Speed Racer because it was far too campy and the colors and cgi madness really made me wish I'd go smoke a blunt and just watch Road Warrior the rest of the way, but I will strongly agree with you, despite its campy flaws, the visuals are always HOLY F**KING SH*T that's awesome. I even optioned on some boards that they were the only ones who could do a great Dragonball both with Z than ever possible.
I will fight for the movies I want to see, and hope good movies'll survive. GO MPC!
I haven't seen Dragonball, but someone who saw it said they enjoyed it, but only after lowering his standards. Like Nicolas Cage 'Wicker Man' low. Then you'll have a good time.
Moviepreviewcritic: If i were to do a "17 again" type movie, it would be about an old man on his death bed who gets the same oppurtunity. It would be curious to see the old man with his 80+ years of experience and if he goes the route of playing it safe or being wild because this is new territory.
Prince of Persia (real life, and its supposed to be like Pirates of the Car.

Heh heh, I just don't feel like watching movies anymore nowadays, so technically, it's not due to my desire in fighting the movepocalypse that I've failed to watch DB: Evolution (not that I desire to watch it anyway). :P
But, yeah, I should definitely try and squeeze some time out to watch the more worthy movies, pay H-wood more for what I want to see.
As for Disney... god. I really wish they would return to the time of The Lion King. It was a great, original story, and not an adaptation.
Well actually, The Lion King was sort of an adaptation of Hamlet (the whole jealous man killing his brother to marry his wife and become the king thing). But yeah, I grew up on Disney and miss those days. I doubt "The Princess and the Frog" will be another Beauty and the Beast", " Cinderella" , or " Mulan" but, it's a step in the right direction.
I'm glad that 'Dragonball Evolution' flopped. Congratulations, moviegoers! Having said that, i have to give all the 'Hanna Montana' zombies out there a F+++++ for making the movie a hit. I'm sick, and tired of seeing Miley Cyrus everywhere i go, and your only encouraging Di$ney to manufacture more 'tween idols', and formulaic crap instead of making good animation. (or good movies for that matter.) I don't want to live in a world where Mickey Mouse is Miley's 'bitch'!
I generally avoid going to theaters because 90% of what's cranked out isn't worth seeing. I enjoy plot, character development and... substance. Hollywood is almost completely deprived of all of these. That said, even though I hate remakes and think that reboots are iffy, Star Trek will probably be my next film. I hope H-wood breaks away from the sequel/remake/reboot/reuse an old idea style of movie making. It's just sad.
I didn't see Dragonball because I can tell its not like the real stuff which is the stuff I grew up on.
The Hwood adaptation for Cowboy Bebop with Kianu Reeves as Spike better be good and stay true to the formula that gave the anime its slick, jazzy, action packed style.

Oh and I didn't see dragonball because they didn't make it for me. The kid who would race home from school to watch toonami. They made if tor dumbasses who wouldn't know the difference. Why go see dragonball suck when I have half of dbz on dvd?
No, I didn't see DB movie because I do not give a shit. :/
I heard the hannah montana movie wasn't bad, but since its a Disney movie, I do not trust that.
I watched 17 Again. :D Yeah, its not an original film, but its very heart felt. Really sweet movie. It was good. 13 going on 30 sucked. Freaky Friday was a good movie, too. WTF? It wasn't high-school musical-ish at all...

I am all good here, going to wait till Terminator Salvation comes out to go see another movie. Well, maybe I Love You Man if it comes to my town.
I forog to add... 17 Again was an ENJOYABLE movie. If you paid to see that movie, you wouldn't feel pissed or like you totally wasted your money. The movie has a lot of heart, as well. It has a good lesson you can take with you. So its a feel-good movie. I think I also really enjoyed the movie because I was excited to see Zac Efron acting as a chracter who is 10x more complex than something from High School Musical. He did a good job!! And I just really enjoyed myself.
Why didn't you discuss all the other films that were at the top of the BO this weekend, and only talked about two of them, with emphasis on what's to come? I must say, I'm slightly disappointed.
i don't know if it was said, but you forgot to add Big, starring Tom Hanks, in your 17 Again comparsion. Especially since it was one of the better verisons of the similar story.
Enjoyed the mention of Chumscrubber. I often watch movies with strange names without even reading what their about. Many might think this strange but I cannot begin to describe how many brilliant movies I have seen because of it. Many I would not have heard of otherwise, like Chumscrubber. that's exactly what i said MPC. good call, yes its 13 going on 30, same storyline, but vice versa.. a dad becomes 17, while in 13 going on 30 a 13 year old child becomes a knock out of a woman, who is in her 30's. its the same old shit.
most importantly i must ask, "who the fuck is Zac Efron?. seriously". i think he's like a singer isn't he?
i movie hopped into dragon ball and i was stunned 2 c how they completely messed up one of my favorite cartoon show. It was insulting to me that they did the movie like that. (by the way i loved speed racer lol) but i agree someone who knows about dragon ball should have done the movie. it was pathetic. Oh and u 4got the other 17 again with tia and tamera lol but yeah im not going 2 the movies this week probably wont go until xmen comes out even though thats probably no that good either
Don't you think its hypocritical to applaud Crank 2 for being a simple but fun movie while saying we are horrible people for seeing the "incredibly stupid undeep obvious attempt at our money for no cinematic bang" Fast and the Furious when it too is a simple but fun movie?
They are more or less the same movie, I saw F/F and it was good cool fun and I assume Crank will be the same, so why is one better than the other?
I though Speed Racer was a fun movie and I think it was fun movie. Not great, but that is what they should have done for Dragonball.
I actually can't wait for Crank 2. I feel the exact same way with you about Crank, it is just a fun movie. Nothing deep and it is not a great movie, it is just simple and fun.
Great job as always Movie Preview Critic. Can't wait for another video. Long Live Good Movies
Oh... and thank GOD you're calling out 17 Again. What's bothering me MOST about 17 again is that people's appearance does NOT go from Zac Efron to Matthew Perry... By 17, you pretty much look how you're going to look for the rest of your life... Maybe you clean up or get fat, but you do NOT go from Zac Efron to Matthew Perry.
I'm seeing Crank 2, which i think will either come in 4th or 5th, and Dragonball (for pure nostalgia and laughabilty factors), which will continue to sink.
well I rather have no anime/manga adaptations then bad ones. I saw it because of curiosity thinking it was going to bomb any ways. All I can say is that it was empty and everything just came off as awkward.
If they insist on another movie don't let fox make movies period and "incredible hulk it."
I'm going to check out Crank 2. I own the first one and turn it on when I need a laugh or want to sit and vent some anger. I like Jason Stathom as an action star. I hope he keeps making movies. I like him a whole lot more than Vin Diesel.
I saw the Dragon Ball movie just to see how much it was going to suck. Their is no way they will make a sequal based on the Dragon Ball's shitty box office preformece
Faithfull you say. I have to say I'm a wee bit cross with that statement. I love the entire Dragonball series but I'm going to reserve Judgement on the movie until I see it. Isn't one of the main tricks to doing an adaptation:
You can't stay to close to the source material, or else what was the point in making it, but you can't stray too far or else what was the point in them sharing the same name.
Why do we instantly hate adaptation movies nowadays we let Spielberg get away with it
There is no way to win. If you are not faithful enough, people get mad. If you are very faithful, PEOPLE GET MAD! Look at the reaction to Watchmen. It was a good movie and fans are still pissed about it. "Oh! They didn't use the octopus!" or whatever the fuck. Because a flying squid would really work in a FILM, wouldn't it? I hate comic book fans.
fast and the furious 4 has made 214 million already thats more than fast and furious 1 and 3 did. the fifth movie has already been grenlit and is in production.
You know what, moviepreviewcritic? You're truthful, you don't just express opinions, you call movies shitty that really deserve it. I don't agree with you on Fast and Furious, but I have to say you are right that it's an unnecessary remake.
Dragonball Failution made 4% back? I had no doubt (i was hoping for lower..but this is good too.)
One thing about Anime fans is that they are -extremely- anal on what is done to thier favorite shows when translated into english. Given the most common gripe is usually about Voice Actors or anything 4Kids touches...a live action movie has a snowball's chance in hell to succeed unless they do things right..if not -perfect-..
"DragonBall"s budget was way overestimated. It was actually like $50 million. And despite U.S. audiences winning a great battle against the "Moviepocalypse", the overseas audiences ruined our hopes by rewarding it with $36 million already!
Thus bailing out another crappy hollywood crapfest.
Just like they did with Terminator 3, Troy, The Mummy 3, 10,000 B.C., Mamma Mia!, Madagascar 2, Quantum of Solace, Day After Tomorrow, Prince Caspian, Mission Impossible III, The Day Earth Stood Still
Not to mention all the money they gave to other crapfests like: Indiana Jones 4, Spider-Man 3, Enchanted, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Hancock, The Da Vinci Code, The Matrix Revolutions, and others.
But to be fair overseas audiences have also bailed out some great films that U.S. audience for some reason shunned like: Schindler's List, Spirited Away, Ratatouille, Casino Royale, The Last Samurai, Die Hard: With A Vengeance, Minority Report, Seven, Back to the Future Part III, and others.
What is it with these critics? They're kinda going easy on it but they've panned some way better movies in the past. I hope it only makes $20 million but unfortunately it may make more.
Also I would've given us an B+ for "Fast and Furious" box-office this weekend. It was a huge drop from last weekend so clearly bad word of mouth took its toll.
Also DragonBall's budget was way over-reported. Apparently it only cost $50 million.
You should've read my other posts then cuz I did watch it. It felt more like a DisneyChannell made for TV movie. I also wrote that it wasn't the worst thing in the world though. In fact it wasn't as abysmal as I thought it was going to be. I also wrote that I could see the kiddies enjoying it, but for me as a fan of DragonBall and as a fan of good movies it was just a steaming pile of crap. It was also clear that it was made for the quick buck.
Oh wait you mean 17 Again. Well in that case I haven't seen it, but I mean we've all seen like 20 different versions. But you're right though there are always differences. Having not seen this one I cannot be a real judge on it. But I can say that the critics have been kinda going easy on it w/ their reviews. It seems like they've been giving it good reviews simply because it wasn't "terrible" while they've panned other movies for not being the "masterpieces" they thought they were going to be.
And for you to go searching through the internet for people's negative comments on your loverboy Zac Efron in order to defend him makes you and over-obsessed dillusional bitch asshole. Just so you know.
Now go stare at your Efron poster for a few hours while you furiously stick your thumb up your own ass. Or whatever you obsessive tweens do to pass the time.
But in a positive note "Fast and Furious" had a huge drop this weekend and is already making less money than "Monsters vs Aliens" which came out one week before it.
Yeah man unfortunately it looks like the overseas audiences are going to bail this garbage fest out. They've already given it $36 million!!
Come on overseas audiences!!!
Yes this movie definately going to make a huge profit overseas and that's too damn bad cuz this was our chance tell send a great big F.U. to Hollywood for raping a great franchise.
Instead we've rewarded them and now there will definately be an even crappier sequal in the works soon.
about 17 again there's actually a disney movie called seventeen again when it's actually spelled out except it stars the twins from the show sister sister if you ever watched that. 13 foing on 30 was basically based off of Big staring tom hanks(his first oscar nominated role I believe).
That was why Id idn't want to see it. I thought it was going to be like that god awful "17 Again" disney made with Tia and Tamara from Sister Sister. And then the fact that they kept going "ZAC EFRON!" as if HE is the selling point. Well, of COURSE we are going to think its a SHITTY movie if your only market ploy is the STAR of a SHITTY movie! But I am very glad I watched it. I can't make judgements like that anymore. And Zac is opening his career.
Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow! Stephen Chow!
If anyone should be the director of a Dragonball movie, it should be that guy. Watch Kung fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, they basically have the same elements of Dragonball. Distinguished goodguys vs badguys + good laughs + amazing effects + originality = Stephen Chow.
If I saw a "Dragonball" movie poster with his name on the directing/starring role, I will seriously cry tears of joy.
Oh yeah, I didn't catch the Dragonball Evolution... A friend of mine saw it for free and said that he regretted wasting his free movie coupon on that peice of crap... this was coming from the guy who said "My Bloody Valentine 3D" was kinda cool.
I'll probably catch it on DVD, watch it for some good laughs as me and my fellow Dragonball fan friends rip the movie to shreds.
On behalf of the Dragonball fans, You're Welcome MPC. You basicly covered why I didn't go see that piece of #%@&. As for the right person to make it, I personaly think it can't be done, not because it's impossible or the story is to grand nothing like that it's just Dragonball is just plain wired sometimes. LLGM
I saw DBE and thought it was ok they did do a lot of source material of the original series well its a good alternate reality everything in a alternate reality can be reversed but hey Chi Chi is HOT in the movie and Marsters sounding like a complete bad ass in which he is as Piccolo I mean come on wish we could have seen a little more villain screen time though.
Btw Zac Efron will be in a live action adaptation of Full Metal Panic and Johnny Quest so....yea
Im surprised you didn't give us an F for Hannah Montana. In the case of 17 again, its not original at all. Neither was High School musical, but all the 12 to 16 year old girls I know thought it was so groundbreaking. The moviepocalypse will never be completely gone. Lets just pray there will always be enough good movies to keep it from wiping out good film as we know it.
I grew up watching Dragonball/z/gt and i have seen DBE twice and love it.
I am pissed at the haters who havent seen it and they need to quit they're bitching and deal with change, either way the movie will make its budget back eventually and a sequel will be made.
Oh s little side note: MPC, if you don't remember me, I was the one who sent you a PM with you having a special station on my site. The site/show is still under construction but our offer still stands. Look for it hopefully in the summer of 10 or 11
well hopefully if they do remake/rebot Dragon Ball, the sequel will be done right. how ever my fear it that'll us the drawing power of Vegeta, to get fanboys. the end of the movie however makes it look like there is going to be a sequel. yet why did they start with the DB and not DBZ which is way more popular. Well it clear any way that HWood is out of comics and is going for manga's. Cowboy bebop and Akira are next.
i think Dragonball is going to be reboot IDK why heheheheh if they do it do it with the right people i think the The Wachowski can do a better job or James Cameron now where talking heheh
but as of 17 again you forgot Big with Tom Hanks lol
Are you sure Dragon Ball's budget was 100 million? I heard it was 30million. The special effects and sets weren't 100 million material, except some of the CGI citys look amazing in the movie.
Me not knowing that much of DB, it was an okay movie. There was so many laughably bad momments. Also, at some points, Goku is just talking to himself about believing your self like an episode of the show.
if it isn't gone by then I'll see dragonball before wolverine if only to make wolverine that much the sweeter movie. I really think DB is going to be so bad it's a guilty pleasure just like the 2003 hulk and the new punisher movie.
I think the reason DB was such a bomb was due to piracy. I think it would have been like 5th or so with 7 to 9 million rather than 4 if so many didn't stream the damn thing online, which is the reason it might be rebooted. that is the reason I wanted it to do ok.
I really don't think we have won much with dragonball, fast & furious is making so much money. And pretty much Paul Blart doing what it did this year hurt us bad aswell.
So far, Crank 2 looks like the only good movie coming out this month. All I'm seeing is crap, crap, crap, and more crap. If I can find a theater playing Crank 2, I might see that.
I was able to watch Dragonball online. Although seeing it made me decide a good movie of dragonball(z) could be done, the movie itself was very disapointing. For a film certain elemets of the story should change (like Goku's stature and upbringing) and this was done, but very poorly. I cant see how the writter could have ever watched the series. If the Studio is going to spend 100 million they should at least take that kind of time.
Same! Although I just found out Stephen Chow had a Producer's credit on the movie.
Not sure if that really effected the outcome, but had Stephen Chow been behind the camera, and played a role of writing the script, I sense it would have been much more loyal to the source material. Even if it wasn't, Stephen Chow's movies basically follow the Dragonball formula.
Meet powerful warriors fight powerful enemy. Enemy defeated, gets more powerful, defeats goodguys, goodguy gets more powerful and wins
I ain't no fanboy of Dragonball. Since I seen allot of superhero movies done by this decade. Its was obvious that this would be a Sci-fi typical action movie that you see 24/7.
I saw Dragonball Evolution. My friends father manages a theater, so she set up us with a private showing. We're all fans of the manga and we are disappointed in the production. It made no sense... at all.
I disagree that the profit motive ruins movies. The profit motive is present to one degree or another in every capitol investment including works of art like film. Michelangalo, Mozart, Beethoven,Leonardo, Rembrandt, Lean, and every other artist created for pay. If nobody likes what they produce they dont get paid (unless they work for the government) and we dont have to deal with them as is hopefully the case here.

i movie hopped into dragon ball and i was stunned 2 c how they completely messed up one of my favorite cartoon show.

When i think of 17 again, i think of the movie Big, in which a kid becomes an adult overnight, whatb a rip off

What I don't get is how these girls relate to Hannah Montana... She's a secret popstar who wears less of a disguise than Superman.

this weekend i will be seeing 17 Again b/c Zac's not really that bad of an actor

Why do we instantly hate adaptation movies nowadays we let Spielberg get away with it
khfanboy666 2 years ago
There is no way to win. If you are not faithful enough, people get mad. If you are very faithful, PEOPLE GET MAD! Look at the reaction to Watchmen. It was a good movie and fans are still pissed about it. "Oh! They didn't use the octopus!" or whatever the fuck. Because a flying squid would really work in a FILM, wouldn't it? I hate comic book fans.

VEGETADTX 2 years ago
"DragonBall"s budget was way overestimated. It was actually like $50 million. And despite U.S. audiences winning a great battle against the "Moviepocalypse", the overseas audiences ruined our hopes by rewarding it with $36 million already!
Thus bailing out another crappy hollywood crapfest.
Just like they did with Terminator 3, Troy, The Mummy 3, 10,000 B.C., Mamma Mia!, Madagascar 2, Quantum of Solace, Day After Tomorrow, Prince Caspian, Mission Impossible III, The Day Earth Stood Still
miggizle85 2 years ago
Not to mention all the money they gave to other crapfests like: Indiana Jones 4, Spider-Man 3, Enchanted, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Hancock, The Da Vinci Code, The Matrix Revolutions, and others.
But to be fair overseas audiences have also bailed out some great films that U.S. audience for some reason shunned like: Schindler's List, Spirited Away, Ratatouille, Casino Royale, The Last Samurai, Die Hard: With A Vengeance, Minority Report, Seven, Back to the Future Part III, and others.
miggizle85 2 years ago
Just to be a little more fair to the overseas audiences here are a few more movies that they rewarded while U.S. audiences kind of shunned:
Braveheart, Philadelphia, JFK, Kingdom of Heaven, Heat, Casino, and.... that's all I can think of right now.

"17 Again" is apparently getting some OK reviews
???
What is it with these critics? They're kinda going easy on it but they've panned some way better movies in the past. I hope it only makes $20 million but unfortunately it may make more.
Also I would've given us an B+ for "Fast and Furious" box-office this weekend. It was a huge drop from last weekend so clearly bad word of mouth took its toll.
Also DragonBall's budget was way over-reported. Apparently it only cost $50 million.
miggizle85 2 years ago
Miggi, unless you actually watched the film, you're a discriminatory prick asshole. Just so you know.
quitejaded 2 years ago
You should've read my other posts then cuz I did watch it. It felt more like a DisneyChannell made for TV movie. I also wrote that it wasn't the worst thing in the world though. In fact it wasn't as abysmal as I thought it was going to be. I also wrote that I could see the kiddies enjoying it, but for me as a fan of DragonBall and as a fan of good movies it was just a steaming pile of crap. It was also clear that it was made for the quick buck.
miggizle85 2 years ago
Oh wait you mean 17 Again. Well in that case I haven't seen it, but I mean we've all seen like 20 different versions. But you're right though there are always differences. Having not seen this one I cannot be a real judge on it. But I can say that the critics have been kinda going easy on it w/ their reviews. It seems like they've been giving it good reviews simply because it wasn't "terrible" while they've panned other movies for not being the "masterpieces" they thought they were going to be.
miggizle85 2 years ago
Oh.....
And for you to go searching through the internet for people's negative comments on your loverboy Zac Efron in order to defend him makes you and over-obsessed dillusional bitch asshole. Just so you know.
Now go stare at your Efron poster for a few hours while you furiously stick your thumb up your own ass. Or whatever you obsessive tweens do to pass the time.
miggizle85 2 years ago
Dragonball Evolution was better then the 1st dragonball live moive in the mind 80's
MICHAELZABUZA 2 years ago
But in a positive note "Fast and Furious" had a huge drop this weekend and is already making less money than "Monsters vs Aliens" which came out one week before it.
miggizle85 2 years ago

09tranm 2 years ago

Djmoyd1055 2 years ago
well hopefully if they do remake/rebot Dragon Ball, the sequel will be done right. how ever my fear it that'll us the drawing power of Vegeta, to get fanboys. the end of the movie however makes it look like there is going to be a sequel. yet why did they start with the DB and not DBZ which is way more popular. Well it clear any way that HWood is out of comics and is going for manga's. Cowboy bebop and Akira are next.

RebelTaxi99 2 years ago 2
Are you saying Fast & Furious was a bad movie? That movie was a very good sequel.
xXSwitchBIadeXx 2 years ago
if it isn't gone by then I'll see dragonball before wolverine if only to make wolverine that much the sweeter movie.

The Wachowski's I think get way too tied up in details. I personally thought Speed Racer was incredibly boring since it was all fan, no service.
The best Dragon Ball director I think would be James Wong, who made The One.
Personally I didn't go to see DB because I saw clips from it, and the acting and dialogue is TERRIBLE :(

Redrally 2 years ago
