  • theres always one ,who needs a brain transplant

  • jamendo punto COM!

  • Great song. Great voice. Great music. Very nice.

  • theres always one with no sense for good music

  • One of my favorites from "Tap Root Manuscript". "Coldwater Morning" is the LP's other stellar track, along with "Free Life".

    Bravo, Neil Leslie Diamond!

  • OH THE GOOD OLD MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As I was taught Soolaimon is a Swahili word that has much the same meaning as Aloha in Haweaiian

  • The best re:4:27

  • the best of neil diamond, the best

First, check on your cat. Second, I grew up listening to Niel Diamond. It was the one halfway hippie thing my conservative parents did (I'm 41, a guy married 13 years, where were you in high school?). He is a great singer/songwriter. His work holds up and is great material for covers (eg Johhny Cash/ H.I.M. Solitary Man to list very different takes). The Dixie Chicks should cover Brother Love. It would go platinum.

  • He used it many years ago...loved this, and Taproot Manuscript! Stil have it...over 30 years ago! He was young, and innovative...many people thought he was plastic! Geesh! Used this with my class of ED kids...the principal hated it...her loss! Thank you for everything, Niel. Saw you many years ago at Klienhan's Music hall in Buffalo...

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever. I just love the drums and bangos and the beet. I saw him sing this song in a concert once and it was the best ever. Too bad the song in the Hot August Night is ban here. Id love to see that one too. Thanks Neil!!!

  • I always told my sons, "Here is how you find out if a girl is worth hanging with. Play this song for her. If she doesn't like it, get rid of her."

  • @FDosty

If only I could find a GUY that liked this music, I'd be set.

Parents should tell their sons that more often.

  • I always thought that the song was about Soolaimon the Magnificent. I guess the man himself will be the only one the answer that question. But does it really matter, it's such a great song!!

  • i love these original singer/songwriters

  • i just love it when the organ cuts in during the Chorus:)

  • Like Neil,Solomon loved an African woman,so the the music is representing the fusion. Deep, huh?

  • Semitic brilliance.

  • Neil is such an awesome songwriter!!!!

  • because he is Neil--the same reason why the so-called hall of fame can't decide if he is rock

  • @pappy154451956 Alice Cooper, Neil, Rush...not hall of fame worthy. Yet MADONNA?!! It's an MTV world anymore! Peace out!

  • I'd forgotten how much this album was played at home. Think that LP was pretty much worn, but a tribute to this album's greatness, Neil's pipes, and the breadth of his songs and arrangements. Love the drums in this song and the harmony with the soprano voice balancing Neil's. A shame that songs like this don't get a greater amount of discovery by subsequent generations. And I agree with the comment that Neil should have more credit for incorporating African music into mainstream America.

  • Neil Diamond never sounded better than he did on this recording. It's outstanding - and was way ahead of its time when it was released.

  • It is powerful and impressive. A song only Neil Diamond could write. He is not a John Lennon but he comes extremely close.

  • @hawkman266

He is by far a better song writer than John Lennon, his songs have more depth and compositional quality than Lennon's, dont get me wrong John Lennon was a great songwriter but Neil Diamond is better, this work proves it, african influences long before Paul simon's graceland album

  • esto ..... sres es musicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • well i personally love this guy as he got a really manly voice, his songs which i love r other than this song they are like "the story of my life" "forever in blue jeans" "i am....i said...." but i am liking this song for a special reason....that my name is also SULAIMAN..!

  • Soolaimon in this case is the Swahili translation of 'Solomon'. At least thats what I remember from the album jacket. I've always considered Neil's music great, and Taproot to be the best of it all!

  • Neil picks up a guitar, sings a song and makes magic...genius !! And he's the sexiest man alive, even now, in 2010!! Is the title of this song a phonetic spelling of the french word 'Seulement' meaning 'Only'???

  • @Nanotec5 nope its an african word meaning 'take me home' :]

  • Great song and musik

  • the first album I ever loved... taproot manuscript and others the soundtrack of my youth... love you neil... always april

  • It is so powerful!

  • This is one of the songs that made me fall in love with Neil Diamond. And the album cover in the video just brings back memories of the summer i discovered the album among my dad's collection! Great memories; great music!!

  • How come Neil wasn't given credit for incoporating African music, long before Paul Simon?

  • @FClareCat You are totally and correct!! Neil was WAY ahead of Paul Simon's Graceland.

  • @FClareCat I hope no one assumes that Paul Simon was the first one on that train. Neil Diamond, Bert Kaempfert, The Tokens, Ralph Marterie and the Weavers all deserve mention, along with "Marais and Miranda", Meriam Makeba, and Huge Masakala, who had made names for themselves in the US by the time this song came out, let alone Graceland. Neil Diamond was probably at his artistic peak when this was made, it's too bad his later records get so much more attention than those before 1978.

  • @FClareCat

a lot of people didn't like Neil's african influence with this album. my mom was one. In truth it got me interested in him. I love this song!

  • I LOve this this son... i love this singer : )

  • When you hear this you remember how versatile he really is. Too bad apart from this album, he didn't do more in this style.

  • The entire album of 'Taproot Manuscript' is a journey of magic; 'Soolaimon' is the crowning glory of a collection of Afican-based folk music! Another of my favorites: " I Am the Lion!"

  • Thank you, incredible song, almost hypnotic... cheers

  • Que buena cuenta.

  • Thanks to you for post this magnificent song. Greetings!

  • I LOVE this song!!!! My favorite childhood memeory comes from it!! Thankyou!! ==))))

  • Geweldige plaat Soolaimon.

  • gosh, i last heard this album over 30 years ago, great post, thanks man. trying to remember the correct order though. maybe you can rename and number them. Bless you, and thanks to youtube too.

  • C'mon...This rocks way before it was fashionable for African beats and rhythms to be merged with popular music...to create something unique!

  • salama-------salaman-------solaimoon.

    I LOVE THIS ALBUM

    A MASTERPIECE

    THANKS AGAIN FOR POST IT.

(GOD OF MY DAY, LORD OF MY NIGHT, SEEK FOR THE WAY TAKE ME HOME)
