The best question to answer and clear everything up around NDE's and religion would be "Were there near death experiences before any monotheistic religions came into being?". I found an article saying that NDE's dated back as far as ancient Greece. And if I had to guess, I'd say that NDE's influenced many religions, not the other way around.
@sweetness00peace--That awareness seems to be of universal consciousness, not limited by individual thought/body consciousness. Perhaps these are glimpses of what Buddhists call rigpa and Buddha Nature.
@sweetness00peace--maybe you could explain more of what you are experiencing. But I would say yes to flashes or glimpses. I think that is what spiritual life is about--the yearning to constantly experience awareness of realty and one's nature.
According to the Bible, the vast majority of souls are cast into eternal hell when they die ("For the path is straight and narrow, and few choose it").
I need help, dose any body else, get flashes, or flash backs, of something so familiar when people recall seeing and doing things in their afterlife, Its like i remember something but I just cant seem to get the bigger picture, then my reality brain kicks in and i think ahh it couldnt be true, but, its just like I know, its so weird, i get these little flash backs, of warmth, love , understanding, eternity, light, energy, vibrations, i dont know if any one else gets these??
That was beautiful. I always knew that there was life after death, but not completely consciously. We will all rise into the higher dimensions in little to no times, without dying also.
This is great. "Angels...but not with wings," have you checked out Emanuel Swedenborg? He had a bunch of near-death experience-type things with remarkable similarity to what these people are saying.
@offTheLeftEye I learned about Swedenborg when I was reading The Holographic Universe. Supposedly he could induce OBEs and have mystical experiences similar to NDEs when he was meditating. I will certainly read more about him and what he had to say about the spiritual reality.
@sunsirel This was one of the special features for the DVD of "Stay", a movie starring Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts and Ryan Gosling. It was a really good movie.
i'm sorry, but i don't buy the lack of oxygen/hallucinations skepticism. how does this explain the overwhelming feelings of love and bliss that these people experience, or reuniting with loved ones, or floating out of their body and witnessing events while brain dead, or the telepathic communication with a "loving life force"
I am fascinated by this pheomena butmy left brain keeps kicking in and my skeptical side comes through and although many people seem to have these I wonder how many people who are revived see nothign at all and what is the implications of that
@jawa809 In a study by Dr. Pim van Lommel, 18% of 344 survivors of cardiac arrest reported an NDE. One implication is that if the NDE is a result of oxygen deprivation to the brain, then all 344 patients would have had an NDE. I speculate that some people are chosen to have an NDE (lucky them). I'm still not 100% convinced, i still have a dose of skepticism but the evidence makes me lean toward believing. Explanations like drugs, hallucinations and anoxia are just off the mark.
@cosmicman01 Thank you for your input. I am skeptical but thats a good thing. It only becomes a problem when someone won;t look at the phenomena or new data about it. Appreciate the statistics and a very good point
@cosmicman01: I tend to view the brain as an evolved filter for consciousness, limiting and restricting conscious attention to the physical. We're not conscious because of the brain, but in spite of the brain. Perhaps those who seemingly don't have an NDE actually did have an NDE, and just don't remember their experience because the brain filtered it out.
@cosmicman01: When people smoke DMT in moderate doses, they can remember some crazy stuff - but when people smoke DMT in extremely heavy doses, they very often can't remember their experience afterwards, despite all external evidence (behavior) showing they're having the most wild experiences of all. The brain blocks the experience. I think that's what's happening here.
@cosmicman01: 18% is really low. That just adds to the skeptical side of my thoughts on nde. Though I really want to believe and I am holding on to hope that it's real and we do go somewhere when we die.
@sweeetly I like your metaphor. The postcards make me feel a little homesick. But, like you said, i guess we have to bring some of the light to this planet before returning to our true home. And you're welcome sweetly, thanks for your insightful comment.

I loved this . I myself have had near death experiences and went on to write the book 'A Walk On The Other Side'. I know we live on after death!

@cosmicman01 You are very welcome.
I know that feeling of home sickness, home can feel so far away sometimes.
Still there is a knowing that there is nowhere in this grand creation we can go that is not home.
We carry it everywhere, always in Love and safety, right here...
