And it's on par with Mushishi, Gallery Fake, Bartender, and Golgo 13, all 4 of the like are very similar. I'm definitely gonna watch the movies (I finished watching the last episode today :(..., it really is great!!!). Anyways time to go finish Doki Doki School Hours :), great anime!!! I Recommend it to anyone who likes the animes' I've listed above.

Kino's definitely female. Whenever her past is depicted in the anime she's shown wearing a skirt. Also a talking dog in one episode says that she's female.

I think the author made Kino androgynous so that she would fit better into the whole Lawrence of Arabia image she has going; a short person who tours the world on a Brough Superior SS100. The parallels are quite obvious.

It was around before 2005, which is when Naruto nation started and the huge popularity spike in the otaku community happened (just as a side note I really couldn't care for Naruto). So while it may have been popular then if you look at the total number of anime fans in general today it'd be an incredibly small percentage.
