I just love all dogs. I can't wait until I have my place finally so I can get one, I would love to get a pit but I think I'm going to go with the shelter, I just think about how these dogs live their lives in this small rooms with other barking dogs around them, not a lot of cuddle time, and they are just stuck there. The friendly (I knew the dog, he was still a pup) animal ran up to him on his bike. He got scared and fell off his bike. He said he was going to report it and get the dog put down. I made the mistake of telling him they won't put a dog down because he scared you. Few months later he lies and says it bit him.

Always be calm and assertive with any dog, its in their genes to look up to people. If you show fear that to a dog is weakness, and they will take advantage.

@hallemarks I know a family whose pit bull was killed by the state because a man claimed it bit him. What really got me is that I spoke with this man after the incident. The friendly (I knew the dog, he was still a pup) animal ran up to him on his bike. He got scared and fell off his bike. He said he was going to report it and get the dog put down. I made the mistake of telling him they won't put a dog down because he scared you. Few months later he lies and says it bit him.

Always be calm and assertive with any dog, its in their genes to look up to people. If you show fear that to a dog is weakness, and they will take advantage.

@stopglobalswarming Most of those dogs were mistreated and conditioned to behave aggressively, or else were provoked (yes, walkers and bikers and kids DO provoke attacks all the time). There are also a few rare dogs that suffer from neurological problems; my neighbors had to have their lab put to sleep when it developed a brain problem and began attacking their child. It's been scientifically proven that a well-trained pit bull is no more likely than other breeds to behave aggressively.

@Hbsrule first of all they were not bred for fighting in England where they originated from they were bred for farm work, when some English settlers came to America they brought some Pit Bulls with them and sold them to American farm workers that were interested in a fit strong working dog. The Pit Bulls low body, broad strong shoulders, strong box head and neck, and muscular legs were ideal working breed material. But then we started seeing there potential in dog fights.
