  • this exact rendition...guitar and all should be recorded along side some raked drums and piano. thats it. It would be better than Jobims original composition

  • Gorgeous playing, Robert! Thanks for posting. Bill was my guitar teacher while I was in High School in the late '70's. It was always a treat to get to hear him play one of his amazing guitars during our lessons. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  • love it, love it, love it!

  • Best way to learn these is find the chords and melody in a fake book (chordbook) or something and create an arrangement

  • No bass player needed.

  • sigh... Conti, your look to the sky rendition is very nice. my does not sound like yours even though i've tried to get that sound. its related to the barker 7 sound and partially my experience level i suppose. But i regress sir you are a great model for me.

  • Its kinda annoying how people are ragging on metal heads just because we love metal doesnt mean were close minded this is like the 14th time ive watched this video literally and i fall inlove everytime and i highly doubt im the only one to people should stop talking and just enjoy the music

  • Please tell me that these little bits are songs and not just improv they are so beautiful

  • Conti!!! always 100%

  • can anyone get me tabs for this?

  • @jtfles

    Short answer:No

Long answer: No. Tabs are for noobs. Learn it by ear and/or by watching Robert's hands

  • oh man!! that is just too good

  • for me is the right instrument in right hands. i propably don't want to know why he want to sell this guitar...

  • What is the 7th tuned to?

  • @RodrigoCFD B or A probably

  • @RodrigoCFD I'm guessing that it's tuned to B. If he was a rock idiot, then I'd guess B or A... because they love those farkakteh "power chords."

  • @Hoopermazing are you suggesting that just because rock/metal guitarist only play power chords? because if so thats punk your thinking of mate. check out parkway drive, check out the contortionist. tell me we only use power chords then.

  • @Hoopermazing Listen to Animals As Leaders dude. It'll make you feel like an ass for that comment.

  • It's all about tone, isn't it? And you have captured the quintessential heart-stopping sound. Where have you been??

    Nice smile Robert!

  • that tone is....lovelyyy =oo *dazes in amazement at beautiful guitar and music*

  • sensacional!

  • An awesome player paired with an awesome guitar=Epic WIN!

  • this is great

  • genius!

    this is intensive

  • I wish I could do this.

  • The pickup on that guitar must be incredible. He's hardly picking at all. Also the body of the guitar looks a bit larger than other jazzbox type models, It might be the angle he's holding it, but it just seems that way to me.

  • Nice guitar and stellar playing, but does it sound out of intonation in the higher registers? I wonder if it was build for a different gauge or tension string set?

  • i agree it sounds like it needs a decent set up. but i dare say at the asking price it would probably be included.

  • B is standard. it's following in fourth's like a 5 string bass, the B is on the bottom. so the tuning is as follows B,E,A,D,G,B[3rd],E. YAY! we did it!

hope you learned something. the standard tuning of a guitar was chosen for a reason as standard. its easier on your fingers. look up the history of your instrument, its quite interesting.

  • i want to learn those chords like holy shit! i like 7 strings though for rock drop a is like drop d on steroids. i must say on jazz guitar the top string sounds like a bass line or is that the point

  • do you people know ANYTHING about guitars?

  • This is proof that 7 strings sound badass.

  • i could really use one of those the high a whould be so helpful......

  • um, no, it's a low B, i'm certain.

  • You are a truely a maestro of your craft.....Wish I had a 1/10 of your talent...Bravo Maestro

  • Too bad the signal is pushed too hard at parts. Great tone, great playing, great guitar. Thanks for the vid.

  • string tones plus

  • sounds awsome great job

  • wooo! increible muy bueno, balances Spain

  • I don't understand the thumbs down for the person who asked what the songs were. Anyway, here you go...

    0:12- 0:57: "I Could Write A Book" (Rodgers/Hart); 0:58- 3:03: "Olha Pro Ceu" aka "Look To The Sky" (Jobim); 3:04- 3:47: "You Go To My Head" (Coots/Gillespie); 3:48- 4:26 "Tuxedo Junction (Erskine Hawkins); 4:27- 5:41 "Mr. Lucky" (H. Mancini); 5:42- 6:41: "I'll Take Manhattan" (Rodgers/Hart); 6:42-end "Li'l Darlin'" (Neil Hefti).

  • I haven't been able to find any tabs on Tuxedo Junction, and what I was able to find was sheet music - which I can't read. Anyone wanna help me out?

  • I'll help you out.

Google the phrase "learn to read music."

  • I love how "Metal Heads" never open their ears and listen. Let alone watch the video patiently...

  • I love heavy metal, and I'm listening to this. I think it's pretty amazing.

  • what metalheads are you talking about?

  • Me too... Jazz is great. Metal is too... Metalheads aren't always stuck up idiots.

  • can someone name the songs he plays here?? I'm trying to look for tabs

  • most of it was improvised, the essence of jazz is improvisation

  • great, more vague rhetoric waxing philosophical and obfuscating the nature of jazz. the first one is "i could write a book" i only had time to listen to the start of it, so i haven't checked out the rest.

  • Well, he's improvising (not a whole lot, actually, except in terms of creating the arrangements) on well-known songs. That's not to say that he never improvises, but these performances are primarily focused on playing the melodies (beautifully, I might add) as written. The songs date from the 1920's to the 1960's.

  • its sad to know i will never play like this guy . . .

  • you definatley wont with that attitude mate, its all about hard work, you put in the hours of practice and you can be better than this guy...this fella has worked bloody hard to get where he is today, natural talent is nothing compared to hard work...good luck mate and dont let amazing players get you down, use them as inspiration.

  • As a jazz acoustic player your fine work really motivates me !!

  • If you practice very very very much you can be as good as this guy is (sorry for the language I`m not American :))

  • playing like that is the reason i practice more and more efficiently every day.

that kind of playing is, in my opinion, inspirational.

  • That's sad. This is some of the most inspirational playing I've ever come across. All I want to do is play jazz now. It puts me under a spell. Beautiful tone here, and as usual, incredible playing!

  • That seventh string really gives this the depth any guitar needs.. George Van Eps woulda loved this.

  • Love your passion for jazz guitar RC! I kind of like those who use the low B on the 7SG. it's more helpful in order to create a real bass line..although it has new fingerings for familiar chords..

    RC is my man!

  • Virtuoso!!!

  • THIS GUY IS THE SHIT !!!!!!!!!!!!

I would kill to play like him. Keep on Jammin Conti, and I'll keep on listening. :)

  • Very very good

  • I love this nice music it not there in means of downloads ? :D

  • This is sheer genius. Whenever I need to listen to chill, I listen to this.

  • I studied w/a guy whose father passed down a Barker to him, and it played and sounded great.

  • I mostly play along with classic rock music 60s 70s,but i am in a new phase in my guitar learning, jazz guitar, and this guy is an insparatoin.

  • this conti plays fucking cool

  • If I was in aband with this guy I would'nt alway be searching for bassists. Great stuff.

  • Didn't Johnny Smith use a 7 string???

  • jazz mastery at its finest

  • beautiful insturment player and playing. jazz is a truely pure form of music.

  • Yeah, seriously...who cares about the guitar.

Its the guitarist that is impressive

  • Screw the guitar, the guitarist is simply outstanding.

  • Beautiful! Good use with the 7th (B) string!

    and absolutely wonderful guitar Sound!

  • is it a B? most jazz guitarists tune it to an A, i dont have a guitar on me to check it, and i don't have perfect pitch. that would be cool if it was a low B tho, thats how i like it

  • It's a B.

  • Very good sound and playing ..:

  • How much is he seeling it for ?

  • Bill Barker and his brothers were among my best friends. Bill was probabaly the biggest influence in my musical life and certainly one of the finest singers and guitarists I've ever known. When I spotted this clip, I almost thought it was Bill playing. Shortly before his death, I arranged for him to record a local cable interview where he played and sang one more time using one of his prized instruments. Great memories...thank you so much!

  • Very good

  • Gorgeous guitar, outstanding playing and perfect tone. What amplifier were you playing in this video?

  • He used a Jazz Kat amp on that video clip.

    Mike, Production Manager

    Pinnacle Production Group

    Las Vegas, NV USA

  • @robertconticom I live in vegas!

  • I don't know about this session, but Bill Barker preferred a Polytone amp near the end of his career. They're great for guitars or vocals

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!

  • Sublime. Brilliant. All superlatives seem inadequate.

  • hahaha...this is so good!!!!!so beautyful!!!amazing!!!

  • Beautiful, and I wish I had the budget for that baby. :) Thanks for the constant inspiration, Mr. Conti.

  • Amazing Sound.

  • is it possible for a lesson for the second song you play? i love that harmonic part. sounds awesome

  • brilliant. more more more

  • Amazing. A true master of the jazz guitar

  • Brilliant¡
