  • i was on hes carder , hell of a runner

  • Its sad to see such a young guy lose their life. My close friend died in afgan when he was 19, its horrible to lose someone like this, but Ill always know he died doing something he loved, which im sure Joe did.

  • If anything good has come out of s great young mans death, he died with honour, he will be remembered forever and he has made/been part of history.

  • Rip joe. So sad, i'm starting phase one para infantry training at Catterick on the 5th sept (sun) I just hope I don't get IED'ed or none of my mates/fellow platoon. He seemed a very enthusiatic sort, who would have def. Gone far in the forces. I'm an ex Cheshire reg soldier from 99 re-enlisting.

  • Irememer Joe, from the news. Didnt Joe once eat 50 odd kitkats as a dare from his little brother? Hope you are proud of him :)

  • @Isthisthelongestname

    Joe didn't have a brother, just me (sister). I don't remember daring him to eat 50 kit kats but it sounds like the kind of thing he'd do. he used to demolish a whole double pack of jaffa cakes, but leave one in the bottom, not because he couldn't eat it, but because mum had told him not to eat all of them :o)

    I am more proud of Joe than there are words to say.

  • what rank did joe reach

  • @snipers2theEND Joe was a private. This was filmed in November 2007, Joe died in June '08. He had a scholarship to go to Sandhurst, which he would have started in '09, but he chose to go to Afghan because he wanted to get some life experience first, and because he didn't feel he could morally send his troops out to put their lives at risk if he hadn't been in that situation himself.

  • Joe died? the lad off this video? RIP mate. Im with QRL.

  • @landskbcrew

    Yes, Joe was killed by an IED on 24th June 2008. I love that we have this video though, it always makes me smile seeing his cheeky grin. Especially considering the fact that despite his advice, Johnny Nelson still failed on the tabbing!

  • mega ! brings back so many memories from 12 coy 4para pudsey. - still strong as ever but f*ck all with the cameras rolling lol ( far too pink n fluffy)

  • Why the toy guns - isn't the SA80 tough enough for P Coy? An idea not conducive to good skills.

    In my time, we did P Coy with our personal weapons (SLR) which we also used on the range and APWTs. No drama...

    Glad to see those caps are still issued.

  • plastic guns and potato grenades

    :D xD omg haha

  • shit plastic tabbin gats

  • 2.27 the unmistakable voice of Cpl Thorne! Haven't heard it for 8 years, but brought back lots of memories!

  • thanks

    rest in peace

    am very proud of all of our brave soldiers, life was not in vain

  • rip in you brave brave man, my thoughts are with your family

  • thank you

  • DRIVE!!!!!

  • RED BERETS

    A lad with a crimson beret goes by me, straight as a rod

    With a jaunty tune upon his lips and a swing of his shoulders broad;

    The life is singing in his head and springing in his heels

    When he turns to greet a comrade he turns as an eagle wheels

    Lord of the air about him, lord of the empty skies

    So the soul of the lad undaunted looks out of his steady eyes

    I have watched those shoulders brace themselves when the gliders plunge and roll . . .

  • I have watched those eyes unflinching when your feet were in the hole

    With nought but a handful of folded silk to hold you back from death

    The red light on in the aircraft roof as each man holds his breath.

    Down in the dark beneath us there waits the unknown foe;

    We can go down but we can't come back, yet down we plunging go.

    May the God of battles help us, for desperate men are we

    Who dare the dread of the great abyss to find our enemy.

  • Yes, I have heard you praying between your gritted teeth

    I have feared with your awful fearing when we gazed at the gulf beneath;

    So you need not swagger along in the road or cock your beret then

    For I know a man when I see one, having lived with the airborne men.

    There are many ways that brave men go to play their ordered part

    But God bless you, lad with the scarlet cap, for you are the lad of my heart.

    Captain, Rev. J.W. Johnston C.F.

  • that is so unbelievably deep and meaningful, reading that has made me tingle from head to toe, my grandfather wore a maroon beret with pride, as i am joining the army now, the military blood in my family is coming to life in me and the maroon beret is calling my name

  • Its calling your name is it? =l

  • why rite a sarcastic comment on this video, my grandad was a para and im goin to be a para, now go and grow up, otherwise when you get to afc your going to have a short sharp shock.

    once again upmost respect to a very brave man, and my deepest condolences to his family

  • Sorry, but it was a bit wierd what you said, tis not a film. BTW it dosent matter if your grandad was a para. My dad and grandad were in the army, but its not like it makes us SUPER paras. =D

  • not really mate i know what you mean, might sound a bit strange also very true it wont make you a "super para" lol. just i put my grandads beret on a bit of time ago and i new that is what i wanted, hense calling my name, i suppose i just worded it a bit strangely. so fair comment sort of...

  • @Skyswinger
