I'm no Byron fan so I'm not trying to defend him or anything, but I think he sang this song perfectly in the beginning. He's capable of doing a lot more, but this song didn't require it for the opening doggone lines. His opening was gentle, assertive, passionate, and melodic... not boring. But to each his own. (I will agree, however, that Karen and Marvin were the superstars of this song - and I think Byron knew that based on his intro and closing comments (which can be heard on the other clip)

My book SAVED makes reference to the Clark girls visiting the character's church, that is loosely based on my life and others growing up. Anyways, in real life I grew up with the Clark Singers amongst others famous singers who frequented my real church, Progressive Baptist in St. Louis, back in the 70s under Reverend Linton (who has passed on). These girls (when young) used to tear our church up!!

@vanityfair001 Wow and I thought it was perfect, every person in their part, just the way God intended. If you close your eyes and listen again you can almost not hear the piano or musicians but just music made through the vocals of God's annointed.
