Anyway, I guess it does mess with the bass player persona, but what's more important I think is to be a musician, not just a bassist.

On the subject of the song being difficult, the intro is just has an odd bass part, one that's different from what most of us normally learn. And as you said the timing is tough. You have to have good internal rhythm because you can't count on the other instruments to be on the same beat as you. It's not THAT hard, but it does take some concentration for me.

Hmmm, I see what you're saying. I personally am a bassist first and a guitarist second, and I feel less like a bassist when I use a pick. However, good bassists are usually naturally odd people and will try anything. I'm glad Justin Chancellor uses a pick because it's a pretty big part of Tool's sound. When I play Tool songs I usually use a pick as well to try to get that sound.

I feel like a lot of the animosity on this page would have been avoided if someone had asked "How come?" sooner.
