Is RACHEL MADDOW really that stupid? She didn't know that the Vice President was the president of the senate? This is clearly established by the constitution. Sarah Palin seems to know her constitution better than Rachel Maddow...
So, if the President of the Senate isn't "in charge" of the Senate, does that mean the President of the United States isn't "in charge" of the United States? Is the President of a company not "in charge" of that company? LOL ;)
Palin is correct about the Senate, the Vice President is the highest ranking senator in the Senate and can preside over it's proceedings. However this position is normally fulfilled by a member of majority in the Senate. The Vice President can at any time take over the position however.
why? i mean the vp isn't "in charge" but they are the president of the senate so she isnt dumb just choose bad words.(well not dumb for that anways lol)
el kookoo just admitted to me, and did the research to back up what I was saying! Thanks, wacko! This is about VP Adams...
"On at least one occasion, he persuaded senators to vote against legislation that he opposed, and he frequently lectured the Senate on procedural and policy matters."
In fact, he did so much of it, that congress tried to give him a spanking, figuratively, of course. Thanks again, loony-tune!
Yeah, it's been wrong since the beginning. That's exactly what that means. He was the first to do it, was chastised for it and BACKED THE FUCK OFF. He was in the wrong. Palin is in the wrong. Deal with it.
John Calhoun even RESIGNED from Vice President because he knew he'd have more power just as a senator!
The ONLY policy decisions they have sway in are the ones the President asks their advice for. That means it stays in the EXECUTIVE branch, not the SENATE.
Wow, this is ridiculous. She clearly says, "But also, they're in charge of the United States Senate" I personally don't care if she's the vice president because she can't do anything if she's the vice president. But the fact that McCain actually picked her to be his running mate, shows me that he has impaired judgment and isn't fit to be president.
It's only been turned into what you would consider a 'figurehead' position by the lack of other V.P.'s actually doing what they should have been doing all along. It's very telling when the idea of a V.P. doing what they should have been doing all along as kind of weird or worse, considered as a 'figurehead' position.
Sorry, but if every VP since 1930 has exercised almost no authority, and before that very little, I think that it is quite sick for a super-conservative to go around blathering that because they used the word "president" she can jump all over power she doesnt have.
And I think it's quite disgusting, honestly, that clowns like you will quickly disregard our country's HISTORY to stand up for pieces of shit like her.
You know, you can think any dumbass thing you want. But if you want your opinion to be taken seriously, you'd better put up or shut up. What history did I disregard? I referenced the history of every VP since 1930 (and they had little senate power before that, too).
So where did I disregard history? How am I a hypocrite? So, yeah, call me a hypocrite, but until your stupid ass goes back to school and learns some history, you can hold your moot point to yourself. Please don't/stop having kids
Here's your broken down answer. Geez. "but if every VP since 1930 has exercised almost no authority,", is where you admitted I was right in that they slacked off their duties. The only history to be disregarded is the fact that they actually used to do their jobs, but have gotten lazy since the 30's, which was my point (one that you have conceded) in the first place. Good grief.
...so what you're saying is... if I don't do something, I instantly have the right to do it and have just been "slacking" on doing it?
Every other VP in history interpreting their responsibilities as such (and we've had some GREAT VPs and many VPs that went on to be presidents) does not constitute some correctness to the way they think? In fact, one stupid bitch who doesn't read a newspaper, wants to cut fruit fly research, and has zero qualifications for this job, can come in and say otherwise
"...so what you're saying is... if I don't do something, I instantly have the right to do it and have just been "slacking" on doing it?"
Comprehension-0% Basically, huh?!? How did you manage to mutilate what I had written? I give up, it's apparent that you are simply trying to play dumb.
No, they have never used such authority to change policy. Never has that been commonplace (or even happened at all!)
So, I am saying, they did not do it because they do NOT have the authority and UNDERSTOOD their job.
...and you are saying that because they didn't do it, they are lazy, but DO have the authority (under what logic besides the use of the word "president" you have still to disclose), and Palin, who doesn't know Africa is a continent, would be the FIRST to understand her role! Hmm
You picked the PERFECT name for yourself, as you are certifiable. I think you may need some therapy, as it seems you're losing lucidity, proper thinking function, and communication skills. You are rambling on about what amounts to your OPINION, and not fact.
Good day.
P.S. "No, they have never used such authority to change policy." Wrong. I'm sure you'll deny this, denial is what keeps the left going.
From my eyes, her being an unqualified, blithering idiot is not where I take the most exception with her. What DOES bother me is the fact that she makes NO POINT to learn the position she's seeking. Rather than showing the intellectual curiousity needed to be an effective VEEP, she's keeping herself in the dark about important political issues; while relying on being a folksy "Hockey Mom" for her constituents. The chick has zero substance and it doesn't seem to phase her.
I've been posting on this other threads. Read it bender. The VP has no vote unless tie, count the electoral votes, all the procedural powers of a Senator minus the vote and so on. The VP is the traditional leader of the Senate not the De Facto leader. Explain that to an 8 year old. I don't like her personally but if your going to nail her for semantics on a statement made to an 8 year old you're a punk jerkoff. She's said and done alot worse. Are you so ignorant you can't nail her for worse?
She had several months to prepare for this question and still doesn't get it. How pathetic! You would think some where along her $150,000 shopping spree, she would've picked up a copy of the constitution and skimmed over the part on Vice Presidential duties!
Palin said that the VP is "in charge" of the Senate and that if the VP really wanted to they "get down in there" and help make policy decisions. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
a7241982, you missed this part-- "but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided."
That means the VP has no authority in the Senate unless a tie breaker is needed.
@bendertl31 LOL! You can quote the Constitution, but the fact of the matter is that she was speaking the truth. We know Dubya was dumber than rocks, but Cheney was his VP. Intelligent people know exactly who Joe Bidon is and know that he'd have never won a presidency because his ideals are way to out there, but with Obama has his model, he got the position, and had the ability to manipulate and carry out his agenda.
Lets GIVE NOTICE to anyone that didn't read the Constitution The formal powers and role of the vice president are limited by the Constitution to becoming President should the President become unable to serve (e.g. due to the death, resignation, or medical impairment of the President)the Vice President has two primary duties: to cast a vote in the event of a Senate deadlock and to preside over and certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral College, SHE GOT IT WRONG
Wow. I don't like Palin at all, but guys pull your heads out of the your asses. The Vice President of the United States is designated by the Constitution as the President of the Senate. I repeat. The Vice President of the United States is designated by the Constitution as the President of the Senate.
She was right. She was just talking to a 8 year old and she was right. I don't like the McCain or Palin but guys come on jesus. President of the Senate. It is literally in the Constitution.
"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided."
That's Article 1, Section 3 of the United States Constitution. President of the Senate. She'll run the Senate.
Also, keep in mind, she's explaining this to a 3rd grader. As for getting in there with the Senators, she will have a good deal of influence, so that's a fair statement.
