i did plumbing for about a year. we did drain cleaning as well as new instal and repair work. we did a lot of disposels we had a wrench on the truck. i have seen first hand what happens when you put a lot of stuff down the disposel. one job thay put cuscus celery and a bunch of other stuff down the disposel and cloged about 10 feet of drain pipe with it.talk about nasty. cost them round $100.00

Here's something they didn't tell us, if all else fails, run water into the other sink and "plunge the shit" out of the clogged sink. That's what I JUST did. My disposal's fried, so in the mean time, in between time, it's gotta drain. So, rule number 1: PLUNGER IT.

My disposal is humming, and it turns freely with the hex wrech, but the blades aren't moving when I turn the switch on. The reset button has not popped out either. No sure what to do.

WOW!!! I had unplugged my garbage disposal because it stopped working. I was getting ready to replace it and its barely 3 years old. I never knew that there was a reset button on there at all (duh)!

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH. Instead of having to wait on my husband to repair this or paying a repairman nearly what I would pay for a brand new disposal, I decided to try your advice. That was one of the easiest things I've ever tried. Plus, I get to brag to my husband that I fixed it without his help.  Or I could just take the money that I would have paid to a repairman and buy some new shoes ;-)

my garburator (mainline 1900) does not have a hole to use the wrench. it's humming but not working. i tried using a stick to turn it inside but no luck. what else should i do?

i forced it with the same stick i was using turning it clockwise and counter-clockwise until it loosened up. it's working now.

I don't find a hole at the bottom of my disposal, it is a GE model, but instead there's a metal plate underneath it.

Thank You... You Tube pays for itself. It was just the switch, I figured since I didn't hear anything running it was a motor or something. I wish when we called a plumber they would just tell us to reset the switch or loosen up the disposal. Instead they come out and act like they are working and bring in a whole bunch of tools while they take the whole thing apart.... LOL

Insinkerators are fine but when they give problems they can break your heart. Why not us a compost bin instead of pumping all this stuff down the drain. At least you will get another use of out all your recycled veg. You will have compost for next season.
