Yeah man i reckon Don Dokken & David Coverdale had the best voices in the 80's, when it comes to hard rock/metal of course, but even still too this day...no rock singer has ever come close to those two. And then you had guys like Ozzy & DLR where they didn't have the best voices but they were fantastic performers and knew how to entertain a crowd. Rock music is not like that anymore, its gone all soft cock and pussy now.

Fans knew all the members of the bands and where they stood against their peers in large part due to magazines like Circus. George was at the top of his class. @katatua7 Remo black dot snare heads give a very good snap when tuned properly. Mick Jones used Tama drums (not sure how long), and they have a very distinct sound. This snare sound you hear has a lot of compression and some reverb added to the final mastering process. Your friend can't achieve that outside a studio. Sorry.
