Everyone with a sense of decadence, aka good style, miss the 80's. I'm usually a man for electronic music, but always loved The Style Council. This is spirituel music.
I love this song. :) todays music is so fkn tarnished that it makes me sick just to listen to it. But this song makes me think that im drivin down a GTA street about to pick up a hot chicka and have some fun tonight haha gotta love it. love this song!!!!!
@louisgeorge everyone complains the 80's was the worst decade of music but if you really look back now it was great. The 2000's is probably the worst by far.
"Everyone" who probably wasn't born in that decade or who was probably born in the 80's but hated it because they wore braces and the bullies locked them up in the locker. Sade, Flock of Seagulls, China Crisis, Johnny Hates Jazz, Al jarreau, Bananarama, Bangles, Spandau Ballet, Wang Chung, Billy idol, Breathe, Debbie Gibson, Come on I could go on. Music today sucks they don't make any sense. Just a lot of ass shaking the word f*ck in the lyrics. That's why kids are so messed up today.
Plz miss, judging your profile you dont seem like a dumb person so if you aint, dont act like one. Comments like that belong to stupid people. Period!
This takes me back to my student days in gaie Paris...
The French actually had a thing for The Style Council, most probably because of their Jazz based style.
In any case, a "grande creme" coffee, a fresh pack of Malrboros (am not off the cigs, thank the lord) and these guys on the walkman (or on vinyl at my girlfriend's place in Melimontant) and I'd be good to go for 36 hours.
I love this song so much!!! I watched this really great show about Paul Weller last year, it was excellent. He's one of the few respectable musicians, and a complete legend. Thanks for posting!
does anyone else agree that this video looks like it was made in 2009 but set in the 80's? even though it actually WAS made in the 80's.. there's something about the way they've directed it, weird. but freakin awesome all the same!
Methinks it was inspired by the coal mine closures in Britain through the '80s. If so, the song could be a encouragement to redundant coal miners to keep their heads up.
I love how my co workers look at me when we're on our way to a club and I play this song (or any music that is not their fucking horrible rap music!!)
The pianist is Paul Weller. I have no idea where dylanbr00ks got Mick Talbot from. My gosh, how can anyone make such a blaring mistake?
It is the rock piano performance of the century isn't it??!! If you delete everything from music in the last fifty years and leave this performance, I could still go on in life. I love it!!!!!
I hold my head in shame. This is one where I will curl up into a little ball and roll away. Phew! I am gutted here. Look up shamed, red-faced, blown away by embarrassment in the dictionary and you will see a photo of me as I am right now.
There must be a glass of water here somewhere - alongside a commitment to perhaps check things. One of those human imperfection things?????
The pianist is Mick Talbot as first stated by dylanbr00ks. Instead of making a correction, I made a mistake and that makes the mistake worse by a factor of strewth, what can I say, many, many, many times over. I am sorry for the confusion I caused. I am gutted. I do remain human and best going forward is best going forward. Part of that was this correction.
Thanks also to hamjamspamalot. I just saw your comment.
The singer's name is most definitely Dee C Lee (whose real name is Diane Sealey hence the stage name) who has had quite a successful solo career of her own. She is not to be confused with an artist who went by the stage name of "Princess", who also has had some success under her real name Desiree Heslop. Hope this helps. cheers.
actually pop rock music was on the down hill slide long before 1980 but it did receive a brief boost with The Police but that did not last because in 1986 music started on a precipitous down hill slide into oblivion and schlock that year. it was the year The Police broke up and music has NOT been the same since then.
No - music started going downhill late 70's early 80's. By 1986 it was already a steaming pile of shit. Today, its a gigantic steaming pile of rancid shit. Sting is a fuckwit and the police were nothing special.
well that is your opinion and i will respect but i must beg to differ. sting and the police from the late 70s to early and mid 80s actually inspired me to think. later on in the decade of the 80s i will agree with you on the rancidness and music today is totally un-inspiring.
Her name is D.C. Lee. She and Paul Weller were married for years. Weller is said to have written "How She Threw It All Away" about her. Check that video also.

I listened to 'The Paris Match' on your recommendation and personally, I prefer Tracy Thorn's version. It is the melody which makes the song though and you can tell it is Paul's all the way.
Regarding 'Shout To The Top', I think we both realise that faith is deeper than doubt.
I appreciate where you are coming from. Emotions are the source of motion.
Faith is the bedrock of life.

It is inspirational and, hence, a feel good song. I hear it and feel good--be it inspired, less worried, focused, etc.

The memories associated with the song also contribute to the feelings one associates with any given song.

Ysee its a frightening thing when it dawns upon you
That I know as much as the day I was born
And though I wasnt asked (I might as well stay)
And promise myself each and every day - that -
When youre knocked on your back - an your lifes a flop
And when youre down on the bottom theres nothing else
But to shout to the top - shout

I was halfway home - I was half insane,
And every shop window I looked in just looked the same
I said send me a sign to save my life
cause at this moment in time there is nothing certain in
These days of mine

I was half in mind - I was half in need,
And as the rain came down - I dropped to my knees and prayed
I said oh heavenly thing - please cleanse my soul,
Ive seen all on offer and Im not impressed at all
