Hi mate, why you follow anything has to do with lucifer or use the name Lucifer like you honor him, please stop follow the satan , he is real and the only thing he wants is to destroy ur life , Please i know you may think is all fake but trust me is not once you come to jesus christ and ask him to come in ur life with ur sorry to him , not only ur life will change forever but you will have ur own expiriance of evidence that he indeed exist as he give that to anyone who call his name.
When I heard this in the early 70's, It was the counterpoint of the Beatles "She's Leaving Home" except Laura wasn't running away but running toward love's light.
I met her twice -- Once in 1969 after her concert at Lisner Auditorium, DC. the other time was Feb 14, 1972 -- outside Constitution Hall (DC)-- Oh she was BEAUTIFUL, as was her music. Rest in Peace -- you were the SOUL of my midnight-alley New York City.
I enjoy the heck out of this, but I can understand how it could skew the equation if it were the very first song you heard by her.
Anyone who doesn't get it: Go listen all to songs from the "Eli" album(I'm pretty sure they're all posted), and if that doesn't make you a Laura fan, then I doubt anything will. Give her a chance tho, and I think you'll begin to see what all the fuss is about. Once she's got you under her spell, this song will will make complete sense, trust me!
HELLO EVERYBODY the hope of one is my hope of hope itself =) maybe you'd like to help a little fighter I’m trying to be a singer like million else But I am different I promise that... if u give me a chance i'll show u I am 17 years old and dream to have listeners of all ages love the thing I do.. please stop by my channel and check out my cover anyone who reads this could just press the "THUMBS UP" other people will see it. Thanks For Helping Make My Dreams Come True !!! :)))))) Lots of love XD
chimptor50...You are musically challenged. This is one of the most complicated doo-wop/ poetry/Pop/Jazz/Blues music of all time. So sorrry you missed it...
You could have Gotten it, just like everyone else, but, alas you are just plain LAZY.
Was there ever a song even remotely close to this (melodically, harmonically, vocally, etc.) ever writtten/performed? She's mostly forgotten, but what genius. Imagine me and my friends hearing this at age 17/18 and thinking....wft....this girl is CRAZY GOOD. I made eye contact with her once....will never forget it.
I was listening to this song because I have never heard her before. Her other stuff might be gems, but this perticular song is, IMHO, garbage. And as to the songs she wrote for others? Did she arrange them? Was the artist that covered her songs doing them verbatim or did they do them in their own style? I like avant gard music, just not this. This, to me, is audio interpretive dance!
Stone Soul Picnic, Sweet Blindness and Wedding Bell Blues done by the Fifth Dimension are virtually identical to Laura's versions. The songs covered by other artists weren't written for them but they were so good they wanted to perform their own versions. Streisand covered Stoney End and it's virtually the same as the version that appears on LN's first album with the exception of Streisand showing off her vocal range.
100% CRAP!!! She has a nice voice but those lyrics? It's like Mya Angilou(sp) on acid!! Dis jointed hogwash and pretentious!! It's like modern art, nobody can understand it but some idiot deems it "Art" and all the posers are wetting themselves to show how hip and cool and now they are by saying there into it! It's all a big bunch of smoke and mirrors, a magic act for the gullible! JMO
The dog sez: Some of the best music of all times...goes right to the heart....so much more soulful and original than much of what we hear today. I've read some of the surprising detractor-comments...and look, any idiot, moron or uneducated potatohead is welcomed to disagree. Music is indeed a matter of personal taste and everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong or limited that opinion may be. woof.
I don't subscribe to the theory that all music today is "bad," because there's a lot out there underneath the surface, but damn - I've never heard anything like "New York Tendaberry" in modern times and I suspect we never will.
She was a genius changing the beats many times during the song. She was the best female artist of all time. The music industry should hang themselves in shame for not giving Laura her dues.
i've been listening to this for over 40 years. one of my most favorites of all time. i met her, concert, not long before she die, a highlight of my life,,,she invite me to go wi her that night. again....what a what a what a highlight moment of my life!! aahh laura
4003 views and only 18 comments? And all good comments at that, no one saying what a screeching bag of bones she is? I cannot believe people think this person has talent.
@atisaseret Don't try and silence my freedom of speech. That is my opinion and I have the right to voice it whether you like it or not. To be fair, I listened to this song again, and I stand by my original assessment. I also listened to about ten of her songs and did not hear one of ANY decent merit. Oh and the reason she was "Blacklisted" as you put it in your post below is because she was terrible. I am sorry for her untimely passing however, I am not some monster, I just don't like her "Music"
@breedsauce101 - I NEVER implied that you are a Monster, but we'll just have to 'Agree to Disagree'.
Laura Nyro's Music is NOT for Everyone - it's complex, intricate, she uses different voicings, unusual chord, time & key changes & musical styles throughout her songs. And she was definitely blacklisted - I'm friends with 2 of her closest friends, and know quite a bit about what went on. Oh, & by the way, if her Music is so terrible, then why did so many other Musicians have HUGE HITS with it?
Her music is very difficult for musicians to follow especially on this album( New York Tendaberry) which is one reason so much of it was just her and her piano since even experienced session musicians found it difficult to deal with the sudden changes. If she never makes it into the Rock'N' Roll Hall of Fame, good. She was way too good to be labled as Rock'n'Roll. She was in a class by herself.
@breedsauce101 - My little question at the end is meant to be Rhetorical, so no need to answer. And YES, you do have the right to Freedom of Speech/Opinions. But I still don't understand that if you don't like her Music, then why are you here listening to it? Being a Musician myself, I find that hard to understand. I just figure that if you don't like someone's Music, then don't listen to it..
She was uncompromising, very true to herself and to her vision. That is why she wasn't a bigger star. She cared more about her art than stardom. She was an original and many others were either influenced by her or tried to copy her in some way. There will never be another Laura Nyro.
It is incredible how she mixed all kinds of sounds and voices in a unique and beautiful complexity. I never get tired to hear her music... I love Laura.
A film about her music and her life would help people discover an artist who should be more recognized. It's a pity that music media don't mention her music and her vocals.
The women was the greatest talent in musical history. The 5th dimesion got the credit with Luara on the sidelines. They were going to make her a star in 1971, but she decides to take a vacation. Sometimes the music industry does not give you a 2nd chance.. What a shame!. Lara was that good.
@is1531 - You are SO INCREDIBLY RIGHT - She is definitely the Greatest Talent in this Era's Music HIstory, but very few people knew just how brilliant she was. She threw the Music Industry on its collective butt - which is why they 'blacklisted' her to one degree or another. But that STILL didn't beat her. She got Ovarian Cancer and died young. A Great Pity amd a staggering loss to Music and to us who continue to LOVE her.
She was a brilliant and poignant singer, composer and performer. Thank you for your music that meant so much to me when I was a teenager. Your music will live on in me forever. Thx for posting.
She's SO INCREDIBLY BRILLIANT - and this song is just one of her Masterpieces -
