  • I did not know high schools could do Les Mis....... contacting my performing arts teacher now ;p

  • The comments comparing this kid to Phillip Quast are over the top stupid. Average job at best.

  • Great performance, i love when you sing "who is this man!" because it sounds like a big boom, i just love it :)

  • the faithful seer- Screeching!!!!!!!-vant

  • You are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stupid sound engineer should of turned down your mic for the "on" because it was too loud but other than that it was brilliant, and also the handcuffe thing at the end is from the les miserables 1998 film with liam neeson and geoffrey rush, that is exactly how geoffrey rush commits suicide so your director probably didn't tell you were he/she got the idea from just told you to do it.

  • Dude, you were awesome. I was hooked the whole entire time. I can't believe I'm saying this but, Phil Quast, as much as I love him, watch out. Well done, especially for your age.

  • My school is doing Les Mis next year, so I decided to look up high school versions of it to see if anything major is changed. This is my favorite song, and this version was great. Now I'm looking forward to my school's production of it even more. :)

  • great performance, but why do so many high-schools insist on having javert wear that stupid hat. he's only supposed to wear it once in the prologue at toulon, NEVER AGAIN!! GAAA!!!...Alright, I said my peace..

  • Comment removed

  • @Nelsonhojax15 I KNOW RIGHT??? I absolutely cannot stand looking at that hat and wish they would just get rid of altogether and give Javert a spiffy top hat for the entire show.

  • that was great awesome job

  • High school?! Your voices are amazing, as well as the orchestra!

  • excellent!

im doing this at my school and im Val Jean

just hope i can be as good as you.

  • From Javert to Javert, very well done! That's not an easy song to sing you executed it perfectly!

  • That was AMAZING!!

  • That gave me goosebumps!!!

  • WOW! That was pretty awsome. In my opinion, your just as good as Phillip Quast.

  • how big was ur orchestra and were they all professional? it was amazing

  • Fantastic performance! I love the blocking, and of course your voice!

  • This gave goosebumps. You are divine!! Javert is my favorite.

  • GO BLAKE! BANGLES >:)

  • you are simply fabulous!

haven't heard anyone sing this song so well who's not a professional !

  • Fantastic. Glad you got rid of the silly hat. And you didn't overplay it, which I've seen so many people do, even on the professional stage.

  • very good! gave me chills. the pit kind over powered you around 3:25.

  • I had chills at the last part.....Can't believe this is high school!!!!

  • Loved the bit when you felt backwards. "There is no way to go ooooOOONNNNN" Woohoo!

  • you my friend are brilliant! You made an amazing job of it, worthy even of the mighty Philip Quast!

  • Very nice! That was nearly Broadway-quality singing right there.

I got chills when you fell backward. Incredibly well-done scene.

  • You are so amazing! Blew me away! Wowzers. Also, loved the influence from the 1998 Les Mis. Handcuffs and falling backwards worked so well. =) Btw, where did you go when you fell!? =O

  • @Rachtheangel I fell into a tarp held up by 8 to 10 guys in the cast. The first time I did this stunt I had to actually convince myself that If i had died all would have been okay.

  • @jlpmusic100 Oh, wow. Interesting! Well, once again, you did beautifully.

  • @jlpmusic100

    now that is brilliant.

That makes me like this even more :P haha

i can't wait to see what my school does for this death.

I'm sure it wont be nearly as impressive, or dangerous :L

  • @jlpmusic100

I now like this even more!

I'm doing this role at school this fall. I dont think my death will be anwhere near as brilliant or dangerous. :P

  • Wow.........not bad. I like the voice. How old wer you in this?

  • can i send an e-smack to the music director? these tempos are horrible.

  • Geoffrey Rush plays Javert in the 1998 film Les Miserables

Great job as Javert by the way! (: you have a FANTASTIC voice!

  • very well done, hit the notes very nicely. Javert is a dream for me to play at some time, a fine performance.

  • Are you kidding me?.... I was in the Lies Miserables audience at the Kennedy Center back before Broadway... I have every version of Les Mis... including French....BUT you are the absolute best at this song..... Your anger is most appropriate... I love your interpretation. "You make it YOUR OWN"... you go soft when you should, you punch it up when it is required... how can you be that good at that age????

  • awesome man!!!!!

  • Good singing, no doubt, however, I have two qualms. First, I really just didn't see the hatred for Valjean, and then the slow realization that Javert can no longer go on. Second qualm, on the "reprieved" note, it should initially start off as a straight note, and then let the vibrato take hold. It's not really a requirement, but I feel as if it sounds much better if done, instead of going straight to vibrato.

    Good singing though.

  • Dude, you're really good, i'm currently in rehersal for playing Javert in June have to say though i really dislike the hat haha :D

  • To be fair, the word 'reprieved' is probably the hardest part of the whole song, your sustain seems to fade out where as it should be strong throughout, its not easy though, very good effort

  • That was actually a really cool way to finish that scene, I'm really impressed you did great!!

  • did he handcuff himself?

  • He most certainly did. Not exactly sure what it's supposed to mean...

  • @6x9equals42 Traditionally Javert just jumps off the bridge into the river, but i take it in this one he's handcuffing himself so when he does jump off he has no chance of saving himself. thats my best guess :)

  • @6x9equals42 It's so he can't swim.

  • uhm...eh.

  • couldn't feel the connection between Val Jean and Javert, didn't believe the hatred

  • He no longer dispised him as a criminal, but was confused about what to feel, since Valjean had cheated him out of an honorable death in the line of duty. Valjean always said Javert was just doing his job, like the pawn of the law that he was.

  • broadway stars in the making! :)

  • the only way this could have been improved is if you had moved around more onstage

    Still amazing though

  • Wow.

  • wow when you hit those low notes! you are amazing!i love this song and you made it one of my favourites.

  • That was incredible! Seriously reminded me of Phillip Quart! Your voice is great- best Javert I've ever seen:)

  • I meant Quast.

  • dude... you will go far :D

  • I really like your video i think it was a really good proformance coming from a fellow performer. i think we need more people like you in this world; everyone i know is too scared to get up and act let alsone sing for three hours straight like in Les Miserables!

  • my GOD!!! this is so good!!!! wow u guys are really impressive :))

  • Wow !! That's was a High School Performance. I am impressed.

  • excellent job. you sound kind of like hadley fraser.

  • omg! i saw this at national theatre festival last year!!! it was freaking amazing!!!

  • You're extremely good and so is your pit band! :)

  • LOVE IT!

My best friend's school put on Les Mis and she played Fantine. The Javert ws good but not as good as you.

  • Amazing talent! Thanks for sharing the performance.

  • amazing, especially since this was a high school production. please keep singing!

  • BLOODY HELL!!! there are only two people who have given me shivers singing this. Philip Quast and you well done!

  • "The faithful SERvant at his post once more!"

  • alright in all due fairness you have a great voice and your delivery of "and talks of justice" is perfect

  • that was an awsome jump how did you do it?

  • AWESOME BAND!! Often in the school/college versions of Les Mis the band or backing is, well, pretty shit. But good performance and great band!! :D

  • I LOVE YOU!

  • i played javert.

I, (and i bet you did aswell) got so into the role that of stage you still are javert, i still kept the stern face for about two weeks after the show.

Great job man, you showed great emotion. I will look out for you.

  • Lol, I'll never be able to have that role (I'm a female soprano. Kind of the opposite of Javert. xD;), but it sounds like so much fun. I'd probably find myself glued with that face as well.

  • I would just say to work a little on your articulation.

  • Good Job man! I am playing this role for our high school play. This song is one difficult one because there is so much emotion and such turmoil going on in Javert. You did a fine job!. The handcuffs at the end was an amazing touch, gave clear insight to his mental state! Youre good. Your director is good, too! Enjoyed all of your school's "Les Miserables" videos! I cant wait to do ours in May!

  • You're awesome!

  • Where's Fantine's arrest? Like that song.

  • you're really good man. i'm playing this role. hope you don't mind but i'll be "borrowing" a few movements... :) thanks for posting...

  • "Come time is running out".

    Fail.

  • i wish you had a video from when you went up the octave.... BAD ASS!!

  • Holy crow!! You're a close second to the original!!!! THIS IS AWSEOME!!

  • I SAW THIS IT WAS AWESOME!!

  • OMG! you are amazing! you're an inspiration 2 all high school singers! seriously, that was freakin' awesome. my school totally needs 2 do this (we're doing Cinderella this year. yuck!)! i wonder if i could play Eponine. that wood be so cool! anyway, you are totally awesome and just keep doing what u do!

  • I thought he doesn't wear that hat in 1832 more... it's out of fashion. :D

I always giggle when Valjean says: "he's standing in his grave" and Marius is never standing at this moment... okay, maybe I understand it too literally. :D

Singing is quite good, but for imitating Geoffrey Rush's fall: *slap*

    :D Only kidding. :D

  • Geoffrey Rush's fall? Never seen or heard of him.

  • 1998 movie version. Teh Horror. :D But he is good... in fact, the only good thing in the movie. He falls totally this way... handcuffing himself, and falling backwards into the water.

  • yeah im not sure if i told you that that was from the movie... Thats where i got the idea..... Btw whoever you are Sleglinde84 its artistic borrowing.

  • @jlpmusic100 seriously? he was Javert in the (non-musical) movie with Liam Neeson. fantastic actor. also was Barbarossa in the PIRATES movies.

  • @jlpmusic100 you've never heard of Geoffrey Rush???

  • @jlpmusic100 Look up the 1998 version of Les Miserables staring Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush. He falls exactly the same way:)

  • @jlpmusic100 If you've watched Pirates of the Caribbean, he plays Cpt. Barbosa. If you've watched The King's Speech, he's the speech therapist.

  • @jlpmusic100 I think Sieglinde is referring to the fall of actor Geoffrey Rush's performance as Javert in a disappointing filmed rendition of Les Miserables.

  • @Sieglinde84 Yay so I'm not alone on the whole he's satnding in his grave thing!!!!!!

  • Just listen to you! That was wonderful! You sound so amazing. I'm glad you put this on youtube. You probably don't remember I came and saw this live, but it was neat to watch it again now that I actually know you! It is so fabulous how you can play such different characters- from Javert to sweet little Tobias! Love it!

    ~Christina

P.S. I'm watching Defying Gravity next! Unless you really don't want me to...

  • wows, now why can't my school have rlly good male actors and singers like you?

  • Very well done!!

  • Wow one of the BEST highschool javerts ive EVER seen, Brilliant :)

You kind of look likle Nathaniel Parker :P

  • wow you are amazing! this is one of my fave shows and i hope my school does it this year cuz im graduating lol

i would kill to be eponine

but you are great keep it up!

  • cool there's me standing on the left in the dark!

  • I didn't realize how cool this looked from backstage...this worked out awesomely! and of course, as usual, you sound great.

  • Hi, I'm Mr. Dunn's sister and I really enjoyed your performance. You have an amazing voice. Excellent job and please continue using your gift to bless others.

  • Mr. Dunn has a sister?! He never told us that!

  • lol Ok I am very shocked that Johnathan, whoops Mr. Dunn, has never talked about me. Yeah I came opening night. My niece, nephew, and my mom were there too. You guys were amazing. I was very impressed!

  • Thank you so much! It means a lot!

  • Can you post more from the show? I can't believe the two voices on these leads. Incredible.
