  • Just for the record Canto has a BJJ black belt, yet it is honorary, he has never formally traind jujitsu. He is pure judo.

  • @grahamhg Is it really honorary? If so, are there any documentation of this? I've been researching for a while not with no luck to find that he's pure Judo.

  • k tomoe nojento

  • Lol You can tell the announcer doesn't know anything about Jiu-Jitsu.

  • @PaperNun hahahha i know RIGHTTTTT

  • The USA gentleman has no judo.

  • @JoachimderZweite That US gentleman is the number 6th -81Kg fighter in the world right now. I think he knows a bit of judo, especially since this match got him Silver.

  • Flavio Canto seem to me a BJJ fighter, his style doesn't look like very judo for me and he is so keen on ground game too.....

  • Travis and Flavio put on a wonderful display of truly elite Judo and displayed very clearly how important it is to be well-rounded,not just purely a newaza or tachiwaza specialist. Both of them are outstanding and Flavio is absolutely magnificent.

  • @ATACXGYM Canto displayed poor Tachi-waza .. he might be on an elite level Judoka but he always went for the sacrifice throw to bring the fight to the ground. Canto has excellent Ne-Waza but his Tachi-Waza is not of an elite level (based on this video).

  • @pcjudosambo I think you are right. I ve never seen him doing an uchimata or a simply o soto gari.

  • Travis and Flavio put on a wonderful display of truly elite Judo and displayed very clearly how important it is to be well-rounded,not just purely a newaza or tachiwaza specialist

  • One of the best newaza technique I've ever seen! Travis didn't have any chance. That's why Canto is one of the best in the world in his category. Brazilian judo has a good combination between Japanese technique and European strength.

  • One of the best newaza technique I've ever seen! Travis didn't have any chance. That's why Canto is one of the best in the world in his category.

  • shocking commentary!

  • 1)Flavio canto has a too short sleveless

2)Flavio canto do many times false attacs who not be sanctioned

  • I think that's the first time i'm seeing ground work in a Judo fight

  • @yamasnik Judo ground work is definitely there. As long as you constantly attack (on the ground) like Canto did, they will NOT stand you up. I mean look, Canto kept attacking from one technique to another and they grappled on the ground for over a minute. The problem with many Judokas is that they will only grapple on the ground if they see an opening (for a choke or an arm bar). Most don't want to "work" for it (using sweeps, turn overs, etc).

  • @pcjudosambo If Kanto is the guy who took the other one to the ground, then I belive he has a background also in BJJ. probebly that's why he took him down all the time.. thx for the comment

  • @yamasnik I don't know but I think he also has a black belt in BJJ but to my best knowledge, that's not documented anywhere. His ne-waza (ground grappling) is the way ALL judokas used to have in 1950's.

  • @pcjudosambo up until the late eighties i'd say. His Bjj black belt is honorary.

  • VALEW FLAVIO TE amoooooooooooo!!

  • correct me if I am wrong but the 0:25 throw is sumi gaeshi and 5:39 is either kouchi gari or ko uchi gake

  • @rensi25 that my friend is a leg throw lol

  • Valeu Brasil!!!!!!!!!

  • sim , ele é faixa preta em jiu jitsu e judo

  • Using some jiujitsu?

  • who is this commentator?? shes full if it

  • Fight Analysis: 0:25 - drops down for a Sode-Guruma Throw (Pull-guard); 0:27 Switches immediately to a Sankaku-Garami lock (Omoplata); 0:41 - starts to grab leg and turns to a Juji-Gatame (armbar); 1:01 - Osaekomi attempt starts. 2:07 - sutemi-waza/pull-guard; 2:17 - Travis immediately traps Flavio's right leg, Flavio on the other hand seems to be doing a supposed spider-guard.

  • @kigawman 2:40 - yoko tomoenage to an armbar combo attempt; 2:47 - butterfly guard; 2:49 - x-guard position. 3:12 - Flavio takes Travis's back, rolls w/ him till 3:41. 4:25 - yoko tomoenage + pullguard; 4:27 - Flavio grabs Travis's leg but it looks like he's attempting to do a Dela Riva Sweep. 5:39 - kosoto gake throw; 5:51 - Flavio submits Travis w/ looks like a frontal Hadaka jime choke.

  • Canto's newaza is brilliant. Great ko soto gake as well

  • Seems like its payback to Travis after Flavio lost to him due to an injury back in 07. Guess they're both even now. Still Travis is my 3rd favorite US judoka after Jimmy Pedro and Ryan Reser.

  • niice jiu jitsu !

  • i fought canto in Samoa...hes good at tashi waza too, beat china with no ground...

  • wat the fuck did he tap from?

  • Instantly puliing guard = dull judo

  • jiu jitsu...

  • @leoiturraldebjj judo ;)

  • @guilefoz Flavio Canto is a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu began with Mitsuyo Maeda (aka Conde Koma, or Count Coma in English), an expert Japanese judoka and member of the then-recently-founded Kodokan. Maeda was one of five of Judo's top groundwork experts that Judo's founder Kano Jigoro sent overseas to demonstrate and spread his art to the world in the end he came to Brazil and the rest is history.

  • beautiful technique and wonderful display of world class judo by BOTH men. Congrats to Travis for his exceptional silver and Flavio for his masterful gold.

  • Blah blah blah. U nerds talk to much, save it for the mat!

  • "A superior lineage than yours"?! How very judo of you. I strongly suspect Jigoro Kano himself would likely take issue with a crack that.

  • Comment removed

  • Before even Judo existed (changed? created by Jigoro Kano) those techniques already existed in Jiu Jitsu...They were taken away to make Jiu Jitsu a sport (Judo).

You might not have seen before in other art because probably you are not 100 years old...If you were born before Jigoro Kano you might have seen Jiu Jitsu (before Judo) and the techniques you say they belong to Judo...

Anyway that´s where you develop those techniques...until they use it nobody cares about ground...now it´s Judo ;-)

  • This excellent display of Newaza is called BJJ (Brasilian Jiu Jitsu) ;-)

  • @kikojiu No. It is Judo Newaza. Canto even says so in many of his interviews, just that unlike MOST Judo clubs, he actually tries to use it.

  • @kikojiu can you tell me which technique is unique from BJJ? come one.. tell me just ONLY one technique that we didn't see before in Judo.. I can't wait.. if you can't do this. you will end up like an idiot

  • FLÁVIO CANTO.. THE BEST!!!

  • ppl bjj is just judo ne waza, so dont talk about aplication of bjj in judo

  • @alezyz actually it's improved and bettered Judo newasa.

  • @alezyz tell me which technique was invented and improved by bjj that was not in judo before.. I can't wait my friend.

  • @migerusan29 no submissions were created, sweeps from different types of guard were and still are being developed.

  • word of the day: FANTASTIC...

@6:24 even when the fight finished she has to stop herself from saying it one last time...

  • Travis has trained at AKA with Dave Camarillo in the past to solve Flavio's BJJ training. But in this match Flavio is still a judoka & still got him a throw to a choke.

  • Excellent application of BJJ to Judo.

  • @bigpanda82 BJJ to Judo? are you fucking retarded or just like like a fucking idiot?

  • Practically a flying omoplata into that sweep, and the commenter has no idea what just happened. A great grappler.

  • The commentator @3:28:"What on earth is going on here, I do not know..."

"And Flavio is all over him like an hot rash"

    Loved those two ones!

    Ne-waza girl, proper Ne-waza.

Remember that he's also a BJJ black belt.

  • @pedrodaudt Muito obrigado tambem jaja, Bom jogo, espero Brazil gane o final.

    OOOoossssss!!!

  • @vitafightclubjj you are a fucking idiot.. this is JUDO not BJJ.. stop dreaming

  • @migerusan29 1 second ago I am a black belt in BJJ Cralson Gracie Team, and Brown Degree in Judo and sports training for ULHT, Portugal, specializing in Judo. Judo training since I was 8 years and BJJ since 15 years, when I'm 36 years old. Ja trained with Flavio Canto sometimes. is it a dream and I'm talking shit? You is a dumbass! Who are you? Nothing! Fucking fag!
  • @vitafightclubjj Believe whatever you want I train in Kodokan Judo under Tomita grandson, Tomita was the better student of Jigoro Kano and it was much better than Maeda (Carlos Gracie teacher). I come from a superior lineage than yours, and i don't care if you don't believe it, i know what i am

  • @migerusan29 who cares what lineage you came from, even if he were better,it doesnt make him a good coach ,and if he was he didnt teach you.Lineage means nothing in judo.In bjj its important because there used to be so few legitimate coaches outside brazil so was to weed out fakes.

  • @vitafightclubjj unless you are brazilian, its impossible for you to have trained that long, there was no bjj in europe when you were 15.Probably ye should learn how to speak english before posting.

  • @billysue2 It is very true, my English is weak, but my jiu-jitsu is strong!

Yes yes I am Brazilian and I'm from Rio and practice jiu-jitsu and judo 20 years ha ha 28!

    Greetings sports!

PS. When you want to train a good jiu-jitsu or even play a little Randori may come.

The English is weak, but is guaranteed a good workout!

    OOsssss!!

  • King Flavio dominates! Good luck in your journey!

  • so ne waza e feio, eu tive la acho k o amerino mercia ganhar

  • Ne waza shiai nota 10....parabéns FLÀVIO CANTO!!!!

  • Parabéns Flávio. Grande vitória!
