  • look how far he gets off of a wall..

  • I can do similar with my feet when I swim. But when I play basketball, I always snap my anckles. So either you stick to swimming or play basketball only

  • Here we see the rare species Micahel Phelps in it's natural habitat. Watch how it majestically glides through the water.

  • His feet are like flippers lol

  • kinda wished they would have showed the whole turn

  • omg that's not a man that's a dolphin...

  • see whales did come from land animals, they have the exact same up and down motion for swimming. every single fish sways there fins to the side not up and down.

  • my school coach is so stupid they told me to spread my feet out its supposed to be shoulder length i knew it

  • omg hes a freaking dolphin i have figured him out lol

  • He has such brilliant form! He's like a dolphin! It's insane, haha. I wish I was this awesome.

  • 0:15 like dolphin`s tail

  • i will never be this good. im okay with that because my mother is not a dolphin.

  • tumbleturn .

  • you guys realize this is what every other swimmer at the sectional/jr national level can do.. Its no big deal, now the speed, well only he can, but technique wise alot of people can do that

  • I swear, he's a cleverly disguised merman. Or maybe Poseidon.

  • He's got a really tight tuck!

  • What the hell! His feet just like flipper

  • I'm watching these videos to help me make swim team at school. Lets hope it works.

  • Perfection

  • if you dislike this video , it simply means you don't know the first thing about swimming

  • how beautiful...

  • it sucks

  • @utkarsh11651 your mom sucks

  • I've learned so much from watching these videos. Watch, swim, swim, swim swim, swim... and watch again. Technique and practice. I find that after watching these my body knowledge in particular strokes is much much better.

  • @Secretlyanothername

One thing i recently discovered was having someone film me while i swam, compare it to phelps' or thorpe's techniques and you get a huge revelation.

  • hes a mermaid lol!!!

  • Great white shark

  • Comment removed

  • Hes a fish!

  • It pisses me off how much greater of a swimmer he is then me....

  • yep, one of the greatest things about Phelps that helps him a lot in races are his exquisite dolphin kick and flip turns

  • Look at those flippers go!

  • it looks like an underwater city

  • interesting that he kind of turns to the side

  • ANIMATED!

  • for those who can master the Dolphin kick, they know it's faster than swimming. Checkout this vid Hill Taylor a Texas swimmer, who dolphin kicked 50 meters at a faster than world class pace. search "Win is winning! " link wont post..

  • Even in slow motion he's faster than me ...

  • Comment removed

  • towards the end of the video , the fluidity of his body is that of a whale's.

  • @izzybaggs ...in slow motion anyways

  • he goes too deep in my opinion i mean yeah you dont want your body to drag the surface but when u go for a stroke as ur goin up it slows u down alot

  • Racers go deep to avoid the turbulent water above that was created when they swam near the surface before the turn. They also do not stroke until they're close to breaching.

  • @batcountryboy93 The olympic champion has spoken.

  • his feet are like fins! I wish I had feet like that

  • i wish i had feet fins like that

  • He has feet like a dolphins tale. I wish I had had feet like that.

  • Dude , his feet are like fins... no joke..

  • @1onderman

That could be because his feet are quite big, size 14 I think.

  • If you win that many gold medals at one Olympics then you should be allowed to smoke whatever you like.

He's a bloody legend! I never tire of watching him swim.

  • That's a very far streamline... o_O Amazing.

  • @ALL

    No, it's NOT a camera. It's a paparazzi car. Poor Michael. :(

  • I love smimming :)

  • omg

  • :D you are very clever! yes,it is a camera!

  • LOOK at the man fuckin' ankles when he dolphin kicks.

  • his feet are webbed

  • we dont need 100 people to tell jts3417 that its a camera.. come on now

  • he is an alien

  • thats an underwater speeding car going around 100mph.

  • Dolphin

  • Comment removed

  • Daiiiiiiiiiiiiiimn!! Is that even humanly possible for anyone else than him???

    *

    WORSHIP*

  • Where's Michael Phelps? I only saw a fish

  • lol his legs look like jello when he first pushes off

  • That looks like the perfect dolphin kick.

  • okay, Merman Phelps, or Micheal Phish?

  • @jts3417 its probably an underwater camera

  • @jts3417 - its a car...! :D P

  • do you start kicking when you are on your side or when you are flat?

  • @signmeupken on your side :)

  • Wow, he goes pretty deep, i don't have the needed power to bring myself back up from that depth after i turn.

  • i love how half the comments are replying to jts3417 dumbass comment

  • I would never swim in that pool, its just to big and dark

  • man is a fish

  • the camera looks like a car xD

  • his under waters are awesome

  • This video is short, but very helpful... I a really good video.

  • wow. ammazing i <3 him!!!!

  • Hi guys, i started swimming about 18 months ago and can do 400m in about 5.45 (free) im looking to get down to 4.40, but iv just learned to flip turn, how much would that likely take off the 5.45 (doing touch turn)? Any help appreciated!

  • @percdann thats pretty good but im not sure the flip turn will help that much because its long distance. i wud say it cud cut off a good 10 seconds if u have them down and dont exhaust ur breathing pattern after each turn

  • @punaniswabber Cool, thanks! What sort of training would you recommend?

  • @percdann ummm ur in pretty good shape already, u prolly have really good lungs. but try flipping and seeing how long u can hold ur breath and keep ur strokes consistent.

  • Amazing.

  • dude i swear his feet are skin colored fins. man.... lol

  • @ZiGzAgDiZzY yea its cuz his ankles are just ridiculously flexible. oh my lord, good thing he's not a basketball player, be out with a sprained ankle every other play.

  • @ZiGzAgDiZzY He hyper extend stretches his feet for that shit. Nowhere else in life would someone need that lol. damn fish of a man

  • His flipturns are AMAZINGG.

  • Srry not because the lungs are too big. But because their lungs have been through alot of pressure.

  • you can learn to breathe taking in less oxygen than usual but your lungs are not going to increase

  • he is surely not of this earth...he's superhuman...he has dolphin blood

  • he looks like a frickin fish! lol those big feet sure help

  • he does...its like fish!!! his feet are so elongated almost as a real fish and his legs so close together and coordinated...it's beautiful...

  • You cannot increase your lung capacity.

  • Try practicing at VO2 zone.

  • You can practice anywhere you want. But it's impossible to increase your lung capacity.

  • Yes you can

  • No you can't, as you would have to increase the size of your diaphram...which you can't do.

  • @martythamoose

so my lungs never grew since i was born?

  • @blankety345

    "so my lungs never grew..."

The size of your lungs is genetically determined. Your lungs have grown, not from exercise, training, or other intentional work, but from natural growth.

And no matter what people tell you, you cannot "work at" increasing your lung capacity. Sorry.

  • @martythamoose

k glad you changed your previous statement that its 'impossible'

  • @blankety345

It IS impossible to increase your lung capacity through training.

  • @martythamoose

Yes you can increase your lung capacity through training.

  • @RtRdOh33

No you can't. No one has increased lung capacity through training, because it is impossible to intentionally increase the size of one's diaphram. You cannot, no matter what people tell you.

  • @martythamoose

So absolutely everything i have heard from pearl divers and professional coaches is wrong? So how do people get better underwater? The reason pearl divers die early is becasue their lungs are too big.

  • @RtRdOh33

"how do people get better underwater?"

You have these cords that diffuse oxygen and CO2 in an out of your cells -- they are called "capillaries." The more you exercise, the more capillaries you grow around the alveoli (air sacs) in your lungs; the more capillaries you grow around the alveoli in your lungs, the more efficiently you can process oxygen and CO2; the more efficiently you can process these gases, the longer you can hold your breath and function underwater.

  • @martythamoose

    Didnt know that...

    Ty:D

  • No problem man. We learn something new every day.

  • yes u can

  • @martythamoose its not the diaphragm, learn biology, its about number of alveoli in ur lungs where the gas exchange actually takes place... and they burst in smokers, thats why those cant breath, not because their lungs shrink

  • @Huanmanuelpedrodibil

    "its not the diaphrahm"

That's exactly what I said (see comment to RtRdOh33).

    "learn biology"

    Learn to read.

"Its about the number of alveoli in ur lungs"

No. It's about the density of capillaries that wrap around the alveoli in your lungs. You can have a million alveoli, but with little to no capillaries, nothing happens. Learn biology.

  • u can.

  • @martythamoose Well yeah, technically you can't do that, but I don't think they meant that you can squeeze in more gas into them lol. By improving lung capacity they meant you can hold your breath longer

  • look at the black line dont u see a car ?????

  • @jits3417

    I think thats a camera.

  • @jts3417 it's a camera man!

  • @jts3417 i know right!! but its a camera

    Hahaa

  • @jts3417 its a camera dickwork

  • @jts3417 LOL thats the underwater camera :D

  • @jts3417 what are the chances of that being a camera?

  • @jts3417 its a camera duh !

  • @jts3417 Thats the underwater camera.. its on a track following phelps. Good eyes lol

  • @jts3417 : No, you don't taking drugs :D it's a underwater camera for subsequent video analysis ^_~

  • @jts3417 its a camera

  • @jts3417

    the car is a camera

  • @jts3417 lolz man i think thats as camera

  • he looks like a creature :D

  • damn, his feet look like flippers when he does that

  • @Louis4357 thats the point

  • everytime i do flip turns i come out gasping for breath and end up breathing off the wall. anyone know how to fix this?

  • @junkevin, this used to happen to me when my turns were WAY too deep. I would often hit the bottom of the pool and would have to rise at a steep angle to breathe. It could also be cardio and lung capacity and all that technical stuff.

  • @walawalawala1 what ever you say.....Michael Phelps is better than you!

  • Yeah, I know. I wasn't talking about him, thanks

  • keep pushing yourself to not breathe even though you wont like the feeling but you will notice improvement your body will get stronger and more efficient

  • work on your breathing, so as much as you might want to breathe, dont until the 2nd or 3rd stroke then you will adapt to this.

  • The more you don't do it, the less you'll do it.

  • work on your breathing. Do like... 7 strokes before you breathe.

  • @Karakoi you're kidding right. unless our practice was a bunch of 50's on the 1min or something, noone would be abe to do that

  • @Karakoi just took the time to check your page. you are just some dumb little asian girl. you probably don't even swim so shh

  • @Karakoi

I do 8 before I turn to the side and breathe, normaly its like, 8, then 3, then I'm breathing on each stroke I take. Ha ha.

  • His book says he was squatting over 300lb's x10-20 at a time to build stength/power on his turns on top of greuling core training for his dolphin kicks, so that's anything but weak mate

  • your a noob...
