@dbunn15 TO kill an animal, in the most humain way possible, get some dry ice, & a mason jar withj a wire mesh lid. DO NOT EVER put dry ice in an air tight contain, IT WILL EXPLODE, it becomes a bomb, & even accidentlally it's a felony. Anyway, get an ice chest, put thje jar in the ice chest for a few minutes - CO2 is heavier than the air you breathe. It will fill the ice chest up with CO2 gas. Animals lapse into unconsciousness in seconds & death within a minute. Or viniger & baking soda.
I`ve had eggs full of bits like hearts and livers and stuff but this is incredible. Almost like a hair lip gene in snakes but with the chest. Huh... That`s mad. I bet your eyes nearly fell out of your head! I often wonder when I`ll get a two headed snake or something, that`s actually a fairly common deformitiy in snakes too......
@feebix There is a common process in embryo development when the left/right halves fuse in back and front. It starts by the head and works its way down like a zipper. This type of defect is relatively common (compared to other defects that I've seen.) I also hatched a two-bodied (as opposed to two headed) ghost corn.
@dbunn15 What do you think you're going to hit from ten yards away? The snake is smaller than a pencil. And what makes you think it would be "fast" if you miraculously hit anything?
Oh my goodness, that looks horrible, poor baby didn't choose to be born that way. But it looks really neat and cool. (Eheh sorry) But still poor baby.
i ment bearly. and i am not saying they dont feel pain. snakes like any other living thing have a nervous system but its not like ours, that we can feel everything. its less complex thus giving it the ability to withstand some things. you ignoramus.
" its less complex thus giving it the ability to withstand some things."
What are you talking about? The relative complexity of a nervous system has nothing to do with whether or not a creature experiences pain. Pain is one of the most basic functions that nervous systems perform... it's not something that has just recently evolved in primates.
BTW there are lots of living things without nervous systems such as the entire plant kingdom, fungi, and all unicellular organisms.
Some people think cold-blooded animals can't feel pain. I thought that was wrong. Because I remember on TV they gave anesthesia to a turtle to perform surgery to remove eggs from her body. So would you agree fish can feel pain? Because I was a bit upset the other day when someone on youtube said goldfish can't feel pain. It was a vid of goldfish surgery. x_x Seeing some terrible stuff on youtube.
Wow. I dont mean to sound heartless, but that is amazing. I have two corn snakes right now, Im snake-sitting a friends snake, they are both about two years old I think, but they are much too small to be laying eggs. That doesnt stop them though, sadly. If you bend your pinky finger, thats about the size of her eggs. ;-(
Birth defects are more common than we'd like to think. Especially with the number of snakes you can hatch you're likely to see some. They just happen and there's no benefit to beating yourself up over it if it happens. I've also hatched one that was stuck to the eggshell, a few with the skull not closed, hydrocephalics, many cases of arrested development, and even a pair of conjoined twin ghosts.
BTW, good luck with your clutch and I hope they are all healthy and hungry! :)
That was very interesting to see. Dont listen to these other ppl, that video is educational and im glad you posted it. And if anyone missed it, he said it was euthanized.
Wow. I can't believe he had the strength to even get out of the egg. I'm glad I saw this... I know if I ever get one now I won't freak out completely, and will at least know what's happening.

interesting, yet odd.. it was smart to video-document this before taking any other action, though. i've actually never seen that before... ever.
euthanasia was the prudent way to go. well done, and sorry for the loss.

Thanks. And thanks for reading the description! I was beginning to think it was only visible to me. LOL
serpwidgets 3 years ago
No idea, but it may be too small for such a complex surgery. Shrug.
serpwidgets 3 years ago
Ah man, that's hard to watch as I have a hatchling that is similar in coloring.
I'm glad you put it down by freezing. I hear that and co2 are the most humane methods to use.

Before people beek off htey should read the desription. Often corns can come out deformed if temps and humidity is not ideal!
mack1time 4 years ago
True, but this was not from a temperature/humidity problem. The rest of the clutch was perfectly healthy. :)
