  • Hes playing this game by clicking in the middle of the screen....

    interesting game XD

  • Anybody can do that!

  • What's the point of football? All it proves is that you spent far to much time with sweaty guys throwing a ball around practicing.

  • Hhuuiklp

  • What's the point of speed runs? It's not fun to watch and all it proves is that you've spent far too much time in front of the pc screen that you've memorised every aspect of the game. Anyone could do the same if they had nothing better to do with their lives!

  • for 1997 its good graphics

  • ive wanted to make my own version of this, the coding would be easy, but using blender and the gimp seem almost impossible!!

  • oikay it's official. Next time I trip I am getting this game off Steam and re-living my childhood.

  • i owned this game since it came out and could never figure out the elevator maze...even with the strategy guide

  • Wow, this game is so long. I can't imagine how long it would take for someone to complete this game without knowing where to go like this guy does.

  • Takes away from the magic of the game.

  • mm yeah, as soon as i saw this video start i said fail.

  • Pause it at 2:54-2:55 and tell me what that thing is looking at me

  • thats some sweet Space key abuse

  • Is this sped up at all? Or is it actual speed.?

  • @Oppo28 That is actual speed.

  • 7:02 DAMN that button! I played through riven recently and forgot about that button after pulling the lever!!! I was wondering why it wasn't working for half an hour. I just kept wandering Riven, thinking I had done something wrong...just forgot to push a button.

Don't you just hate missing those small details that set you back?

  • @janX9 This is why I always failed at these games, cuz I have A.D.D. lol

  • @EventuallyWeMerge LOL I Actually do have ADD. But for some reason, these sorts of games keep me pretty well focused LOL

  • Awesome video!

You must have had to play and finish this game several times before you could know exactly where to click next on each screen.

  • how do you record the game

  • "A Riven runs through it"

  • what the HELL is with that child at 2:55??

  • yeahh i know its like from a horror movie...

  • Gees, things brings back memories of clicking and going back and forth. Very addicting.

  • for me the 1 and 4th game were good peaces of art the 3rd also but i played it only two times

  • I bought this the day it came out,and it took me about six years to beat for the first time.

...And I got the bad ending, too...

  • Aren't those unskippable stare-at-a-button-while-sound-effects-play scenes just intolerable? :)

  • damn

    this game is awesome

    and you're rapin it lol

  • lol the spacebar skipping always made me laugh at parts. Now here you go trough everything like lighting fast, sometimes you still hear sounds after 10 frame skips. Thats a nice watch hehe

  • can anybody help me? I have the dvd rom version of the game and i am trying to run it on windows xp but it wont load up

  • Riven seems to have a lot of problems running with newer versions of Windows. I have Vista, never had XP, run Riven on my old computer with WinME.

I hear the solution involves installing an older version of Quicktime in a directory where Riven can see it. If you need more help, go to Ubisoft Riven forums. I think they have a sticky note on it.

  • This is pointless. You're just skipping all the great videos!

  • this one is my second favorite of the series, the first being exile.

  • Firt time i playd Myst i got it in a compilation because i desparately was trying to find Broken Sword,,,and this and Road Rash came with it..i had no clue what i was about to discover...amazing experiance,,games nowadays dont make you feel like that anymore,,i always fantisise that i will go to Myst and get lost there all on my own exploring these beautiful worlds i would never come back either...the only puzzle im faced with is i cant seem to step into my tv..:(

  • dude. thats weird.

  • Played this again (first time I played it I was fairly 6 years old) some time ago. Had alot of fun, but one of the discs explodede in the drive. When i opened it there was 6 pieces of Riven-disc laying where the disc should be. Don't aks me why the fuck that happened :(.

  • I remember playing this as a six year old and having no clue what the hell I was doing

  • Me too! I just liked exploring the world, dad always had to help me with puzzles haha

  • Me too! I was 5 years old, and i can still remember the start. veeery scary music.

  • I too was 5, scary music just like you said, could never figure out these puzzles on my own had to ask my older sister, when i was 9 i couldn't get past 4:01 , great graphics for the time maybe only crysis comes close?

  • The graphics absolutely blew me away back then, looked so lifelike. Of course, now that I'm older i realize that it was all pre rendered with quicktime movies embedded, but even going back and playing today is still an enjoyable experience.

  • Even pre-rendered, the graphics are a marvel. The amount of work it must taken to do the art and animation for tens of thousands of frames boggles the mind./

  • your like click, pull, push, bang all to get something to move, crazy!

  • That's a lot of clicks! lol

  • i was stuck way at the beginning. who would have thought you could just crawl under the locked gate!!!!

  • That was the reason why the developers put the dagger on the ground next to the gate because nobody would have investigated the door further had it not been there.

  • Man, that was exhausting. Did I really play that entire game? Crazy!

  • y lost the game :[ y can back to my live aww

  • Ah, this brings back memories...

  • This was the first time i did something like this, so it took me a month to figure out without the book... BEST GAME OF ALL TIME

  • I think that Riven & Exile are the two best game designs, ever! But I was especially fond of Riven. Though quickly solved in a few sessions, I often did many runs as a weekend retreat. I noticed you didn't turn on all of the levers at the power switchboard on Jungle Island. Also enjoyed the soundtracks to both games. Good show, my friend.

  • I remember, I watched my dad play this game a lot.

I always begged him to go on the rollercoasters.

Thanks to him, I love Myst.

    (goes and plays Myst 4)

  • aww childhood memories!

  • greatest game ever

  • You know it would be interesting to see this Myst franchise redone with Valve's Source game engine or with Epic's Unreal Engine. I would love to see how it would come out (^_^);

  • That would be absolutely wonderful. Considering I am an aspiring game designer and am learning the Source engine, it sounds like something worthwhile pursuing.

  • try crysis engine (crytek). THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

  • quick question who is the little girl?

  • I love the design style of these games, they give you that feeling of a greater picture but isolation all at the same time. I like stories like these taht make you wonder about what else is going on in the story world.

  • Sorry for the lateness of responce, but to answer the question, she is a rivenese.

A Rivenese is an inhabitant of the Age of Riven. [Obviously.]

  • i think its the developer's daughter. but as far as the story line goes im not sure.

  • when i first played this game i was so young and this is always where i would get scared and bieng like 6 i was like fuck this and i would turn it off

  • you can buy all 5 games in 1 package! ^^

I think riven is the best. i like it the most.

  • OMG At 2:56 my sister and my friend and I got so freaked out at the little girl! My computer froze so she just APPEARED! We were all quiet and looked really freaked out when we were watching her and then when she was gone we were like "OMG!!! that was THE scariest thing I've seen in a LONG time."

  • Thats what I liked about the old mysts, it ran so smoothly.

In the 4th and 5th one you would click and the computer would load the next bit and you where there then you would click and the computer would take a while to load the next bit and so forth.

  • The telescope code does indeed change each game

LOL once I got 11111 I couldv'e figured that out if it was the first time I played it!

  • I forget what game it was, but there was a puzzle with ten buttons labeled 1-10. Without thinking, I pressed the buttons 9-8-7-6, which just so happened to be the right combination!

Unfortunately, since I wasn't supposed to know about the code yet, a guard came up and shot me.

  • this game always freaked me OUT... I dont know y...

  • I crapped my entire pants full when that fish tapped the glass

  • lmao! So did I!!

  • scariest thing ever! :D

  • What is so scary? i just thought the holograms were a nice touch to the game.

What hologram were you talking about?

  • This game freaked me out to man! I mean just staring at a still picture for awhile makes you think something will pop out at ya.

  • The worst was when the hologram of the guys face comes up in the temple. I didn't play for like a week after that, and then I went the long way around to avoid the temple.

  • Lol zeldaparty8, did you try clicking on the table that had the hologram? Scary stuff, man.....

  • Where was that? I honestly don't know if I can play it anymore because I upgraded to both leopard and vista, and I don't want to go thorough the process of getting SheepShaver.

  • Is sheepshaver a program I need to play old PC games? Because I have vista too and would like to play my early 90's titles.

  • Sheep shaver is a program that can run the Mac OS systems (OS 7-9). If you can track down a copy of OS 9, a rom for OS 9, and a mac version of Riven, which I think all are windows and mac, you are good to go. If you still have a windows 98 disk and key code, you can use Microsoft Virtual PC. YOu may be able to run Riven in vista, MAYBE...

  • :o I knew I wasn't crazy! I saw it too and I was telling my sister to come see but she didn't make it in time and I wasn't even sure if I really saw it. lol

  • I spend 5 long years trying to figure this game out, I arrived fairly easy to the stone room but with no code, in a couple of years I manaed to get to the school but didn't quite understand those were the numbers... christ I must have readed gehn's lab journal at least a hundred times (no metaphore here).. god I had to play riven in three computers to get the right endidng (I couldn't touch the linking panel and gehn kept killing me)...

  • Man, this is back when I was a legit adventure gamer. I got one hint for the entire game, which was for one of the animal stones. Everything else I figured out on my own.

Now it's tough for me to get stuck on a game for ten minutes without looking something up. Where has my patience gone?

  • hooray! this has solved my problem on how to get to Gehn's world. Thank you! :D

  • What its true, i completed the game (no cheat) then i knew the code, then i started a new user.

pressed the code on the telescope right out the cell. Then it was completed but no one were rescueed. Btw fuck grand theft auto who play that shit ?

  • lol i didn't even know there was a cheat until now. though i'm not gonna look for it.

  • oooo the creepy flash kid any1 else seen him hes at like 2:55....*shivers*

  • oh yeah, she actually smiles at you for a moment or 2 (lol that rhymes) then turns & runs to the doorway, falls over, gets back up, then leaves. although it's actually quicker than it might sound.

  • Cool!

  • i have this game. i havent played it since i was little. back then i just ran around aimlessly. is ther any way to make this like wyst by running around freely not just kliking?

  • Like Myst? Myst was full of clicking too, unless you played the "realMyst" version which was a full 3D engine for Myst, that was fun.

But no, they didn't do the same for Riven. Myst 5 is full 3D though.

  • I got this game. My dad beat it back in 97'.

  • Taking out the cutscenes improves time also...

  • if anyone hasn't noticed, Survey Island is not visited here :P

  • ...Thats fast. you shoud get a world record. just at 2:00 i had playd in an hour allready. and i always got lost in the buble city(cant remember its name

  • lol i can finish it after 10 sec whit the code to the telescope lol

  • Go back to playing Grand Theft Auto you moron, since you seem to be for games requiring little thought and effort to play.

  • listen, i can finish the game, but with a bad ending. btw, GTA suck......

  • Um, doesn't the telescope code change each game?

  • nope-.........

  • Oh.

Either way, that's not the PROPER ending. For that, you need to at least work your way to Tay, the dome island, the Prision island, and back.

The bad ends are fun to do once or twice, though, just to find out what happens. (there's aparently LOTS of them!)

  • You're thinking of Myst IV. At the end the color combo to get to Sirrus' chamber changes every game.

  • Wow, you're good at this. I can do it in 1.5 hours, but that's because I also have to go around to collect all of the information about the marble domes, and the color for the marbles and what not. It also takes me about 1.5 hours to do the original MYST. How do you take video of your gameplay?

  • You can use fraps.

  • I hated waiting for that rotating room to turn and having to hear the same sound effect each time! :P It's funny to watch fast.

  • *lol* Where is the sequel of this? (perhaps the ending has not yet been written)

  • The sequel to Riven is Myst III: Exile starring Brad Dourif. Been out for a few years now

  • TOOOO FAST! good on ya tho! is there a run through for Uru anywhere?

  • you must have a strong pointer finger if you can click that fast. hehehe

  • I wonder if you playing this game the first time at that speed *g

  • Hehe, no, it wasn't my first time...

  • lol feals like you have played this game a couple of times

  • Keep this vid here i just got the game because its a old skool game so i thought i could beat it and then i needed this

  • I get the creeps by stopmotion games..

  • I actully won this game!

(with some help from the stratagy guide)

    cough cough

  • i realy love this game ♥

  • I loved the way that world looked, I still dont think modren systems could render that in realtime and come off looking as nice as the pre rendered frames. My friends hated this game, I loved it, still keep the cd's nice and safe.

  • You sure are a fast reader. :P

And wow to you going through it so quick.

  • thanks (^X^)

  • that villiage area (second level) was INFURIATING. i spent WEEKS because i was so lost

  • I kinda wish I was the guy having to go through all that to save the world and stuff

  • This game was amazing. The most challenging one I played in the series.

  • try turning off Transitions and use zip mode.

  • lol @ waiting for the rotation room to complete rotation :P

  • Yes, it's unfortunate it's not skippable. Same with coming down the tree elevator in the forest, the last segment of conversation with Ghen, and the first 6 seconds or so of the fire marble stopping when leaving prison island..

  • you can skip the movies... press Space Bar

  • Yeah, I know. I did that a lot. However, the 4 movies I mentioned, are not skippable.

  • wow....

  • (^X^)
