You see, once you get people addicted to something, and you have a socialist medical system in a capitalistic nation, you get doctors who ensure patients keep coming back, charged to the government, and get bonuses from the drug industry for perscribing their products. Every anti-depressant is a garantee for braim-damage. The psychiatry and the farmaceutical can not prove for what their'e doiing. In fact, they make people suicidal, aggresive and killing machine's. They NEVER heal people !! And the Gouverment agree's. The gouverment can now force you, to take these legal drugs ( HR3200, Obama Health Care Bill), or lock you up. The American dream. Tardive dyskinesia and akethesia is far more common than you would think...and no, these "new and improved' psych meds do not prevent it. Seen it with my own eyes.

And dont worry, if you dont take these drugs on your own, you ingest them anyway, via poisoned water supplies thanks to big pharm dumping, and treated sewage that can not eliminate these chemicals.

Money fuels ALL the sciences. Psych meds are at the top of the list of most prescribed. Interestingly, most SSRI's have the common side effect of increased suicidal and homicidal ideation. Convenient. Psychology is used extensively in all adjuncts of media...we are, as a civilization, spoon fed and led to believe and behave just as the capitalists need us to.

Also it's not true that there is no evidence mental illnesses are biological (imbalance in neurotransmitters + inherited). In some cases they are, in some cases their causes are environmental.

What people should understand is that neither psychiatrists nor psychologists have a magic wand in treating mental illnesses. It is true that neuroleptics have serious side effects, and every patient should be informed before taking any of these drugs. I see this documentary is anti-psychiatric and doesn't give the opportunity to the other side to argue - okay, what do I do with an excitated bi-polar? What do I do with a paranoid schizophrenic? Answer that.

If that person wants help, and he gives his informed consent, and the patient is exposed to a wide spectrum of perspectives, then you offer the drugs, telling the patient that studies that look at outcomes in the aggregate show that the drug is contraindicated for most, will probably cut decades off their life...

@akanou77 ... etc. etc. etc. Psychiatrists don't do this, because they know that most people would understand that there is no point in taking the drug, because of the iatrogenic illness associated with these drugs. Instead, psychiatrists bring odium on themselves by acting like ad-men for pharmaceutical drugs, conveniently abrogating the patient's right to informed consent, and violating the medical ethical principles of beneficence (serving the best interest of patients), and non-maleficence..

Sometimes there can be extenuating factors for the violation of the second, like using morphine for someone dying, but psychiatrists have no such safety net. Cross-cultural studies, longitudinal studies and cross-age studies show that their drugs only have a short-term efficacy, and in the long term, they are responsible for an iatrogenic epidemic and a corresponding epidemic of encephalopathy. Contrary to the conventional stupidity..

So, we spend 5 seconds on the modern use of EST and lobotomies, which the info presented was not factual, if you look it up at a unbias source. Now, we are on to the REAL issue, which is drug use. I do believe we are over medicating people, BUT it is not the medicine that is the problem. It is the UNETHICAL practices. I LOVE how they are only blaming psychiatrist, not the healthcare system OH NO. We cant attack our REAL fellow rich folk.

@mainestategop- I believe we are over medicated, but most of the side effects are not common. Let's round up all the people who have been helped by these drugs. If these side effects were as prevalent as this video is saying, people would not be taking it! I know quite a few people who have not taken a gun out on anyone or any other irrational behavior occur and they are on prozac. They can blame the drug, but those people in the video need to be held personally accountable for their actions.
