I saw Jon Anderson live last night, he told the story about how they both ended up playing this song on television. They had to come up with a hit or else the label was going to take back the money they had earned since their album didn't release any great hits except for this one which they wrote in one night and had to perform, Vangelis didn't like the idea so much,in Jon's words "Vangelis was literally crying saying 'I don't want to be a pop star!' ".I thought that was the cutest thing ever.

@alanstarkie2001 It was Jon Anderson that wanted Vangelis to join Yes. Vangelis was apprehensive because he did not want to become part of a band that was very well known, much like the fantastic band Yes. I think the results would have been very interesting had he joined Yes as the keyboardist instead of Wakeman. It's a good thing that Anderson and Vangelis collaborated on works together.  I'll Find My Way Home is my absolute favourite song. I like to think of it as my anthem.

@alanstarkie2001 I don't think Vangelis had the technical skills that Wakeman possessed in terms of virtuosity. However, Vangelis as a composer is probably better than Wakeman. This often happens in music - The composer is often able to play but is in no way a virtuoso at any particular instrument. Tchiakovsky for example, was no virtuoso. Neither is Paul McCartney, for a contemporary example.

Apparently this was a hit someplaces in Europe? I wonder if such music would have a chance on radio today. IFMWH did get airplay in the US. I was in SC, came back to VA... I was hearing it on 'low rotation' on 2 or 3 rather small market stations. (Those were the days I'd call and request songs just 'trying to support the cause.')
