I think all the hateful comments are hilarious. She was cast for a reason, by a guy who knows his musical. She wasn't the only girl who auditioned for mimi and Nicole auditioned and got her part as well. Qhy do you compare everyone to everyone else? People are different for a reason.

@ladontloveu in my opinion, people are different, and i welcome different aspects of characters, and thats actually what i look for and hope for when i see shows i love, like rent. but the key is making the differences GOOD.

for example, nicole played maureen completely differently than idina, and i LOVE idina's maureen, but nicole is definitely one of my favorite maureens of all time- and I was expecting her to be horrible.

vanessa on the other hand... i just have no words.

@serglinkk I totally agree. She did an amazing job. Anyone who says otherwise are jealous of her just being Vanessa Hudgens. Not really taking into consideration her artistic performance. Watch Skylar Astin fan video and you will see it clearly in all the songs. He has all her performances there. That will shut up anyone who is trying to bring Vanessa down.

If the stage is so huge she should have done cardio to prepare its not like she has anything to do but prepare for jobs which she clearly doesnt do very well. So we can be critical cause she sucked and shouldnt have been cast.

Your image of Mimi is close-minded and that isn't Vanessa's fault. I prefered Vanessa's voice to the actor in the movie but I think the actor did a better job. But guess what? It's a play vs. a movie or other plays and actors. Quit comparing.

I'm disappointed. Vocally she's not ready for live stage. I find it lacks "passion" and life. I recognize that she gives an innocence to the role, but listen to her, her voice is not ready for live theater.

The staging of this is really bothering me. In the stage version of Rent, Out Tonight is not supposed to be set in the Catscratch Club, unlike the movie. The stripper-y aspect of Vanessa's version seems caricatured and overdone to me.

Her voice is good though, much better than I expected.

Vanessa did it so well.. being a slut is very easy to do.. mess yourself here and there.. like what she did.. this is suppose to be the kind of Mimi portrayal should be.. slutty and innocent.. from all of the actresses that I've seen and heard doing Mimi gave there different flavor, most of them gave maturity and darkness to the character of Mimi but this one is raw and real.. slutty, sweet, and innocent..

@yellowtube7 appreciated.. i would really say that Vanessa is the real Mimi.. young, vulnerable, and fresh.. but I will also give Rosario Dawson a credit for doing the "much" loved Mimi, as we all know she is the most blessed actress to portray the character cause she doesn't have to do it in front of the crowd and vocally wise, it could be mixed and do a magic on her voice while recording all the songs.. well done Vanessa.. To the original Mimi, ure older for the character.. but thanks anyway
