So, it may be a bit of a 'derrr' moment, but upon listening to it again it click as to what it's about. Somebody he loves has moved away, and they talk on the phone, but it's not the same, he wants to see her in person.
I'm experiencing a bit of this at the moment. This song comforts me somewhat. Such a great song.
I really wish they did more songs like this. Don't get me wrong, I really like the band (Funeral is my favourite album of all time) but it's upsetting that they don't do any love ballads anymore. Neon Bible and Suburbs all have songs that deal with love, but none of them are totally focused on it or half as elegiac anymore. I just want another Crown of Love...
@affjigabiggle I half agree. I think too many songs these days are about love, and arcade fire has the balance perfectly right. It depends what you consider a "love ballad", I suppose. Is tunnels a love ballad? I'd say no, but some interpret it that way. This song is great though. Where did it first appear on? Some obscure demo tape or something? Is this even win singing?
@corncornrocks I think post-Funeral a lot of the emotion that their earlier songs have has been lost. While Neon Bible and The Suburbs are still very good albums, they feel much more detached than Funeral. The title track of the Suburbs is one of my favourite non-Funeral tracks because Win sounds so honest and affected in it. Anyway, it is Win singing and I'm not exactly sure where it was found, but it appears on a Rarities/b-sides collection that is on the internet. It's full of great stuff!
Wow, this is a really beautiful song. They sound like a different band. I haven't heard any of their stuff pre-Funeral and obviously I'm going to have to rectify that.
I love how you can't really compare any AF album to each other. They're so ridiculously different that you almost have to take them completely by themselves.
Their EP, 2001 Demo, Funeral, the B-sides, and The Suburbs are just so superb, but superbly different, that I can't really compare them.
However, Neon Bible was pretty bad, save for about three songs.
This is such an amazing video, the scene transitions. The accuracy, how everything is so ... Still. You should make a major motion picture (would it be "motion"?) in this style, I would take my uncle chip to go see that. Yessiree I would, he would be real mad.
at the very end of this song, you can hear the faint strains of the pure potential of greatness that arcade fire had at the time that this song was 'released'. i think it's absolutely amazing.
This song, I would listen to when I was 14 at my cottage, and oh my god the memories it resonates when I listen to it now, trying to finish studying for an exam in university. Thank you Arcade Fire, for being able to take me back to those carefree days of childhood where you're on the verge of personal innocence and corruption. Oh what an amazing song and band.
Great tune...haven't heard it in a few years...One of my favourites...this and Black Wave, Bad Vibrations...Neighbourhood # 1 (Tunnels) along with the Talking Heads cover of This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)
i know its pretty amazing, i dont think the flaming lips can write anything this good. That guy wayne is fucking idiot. sorry if there are any FL fans on this page.
@newmoonsamesun well. no need to bash the flaming lips, they've written some amazing stuff over the years. both bands can be great. i personally like arcade fire a bit more, but the flaming lips are definitely better than many, many bands. it was very lame of wayne to bash arcade fire like he did, but they're still very good musicians
this song fucking kills me and it's so beautiful
