Here is the deal. Major economic undertakings are not supposed to happen because some people click on a "sign button" on a website nobody reads. Our government is not set up that way. If so the NRA would have passed a law that has every person who ever wore tie dye locked up in jail. "Hoping" Obama will do something does not cut it. @greenergardens I have a slightly different take. Clicking an online petition is a way to show your support for a cause. Granted, it doesn't carry much weight, but every email we send or call we make does matter. To prove the point, when the House was debating climate legislation last year, Rush Limbaugh was instructing his audience to call the Hill to oppose the bill. It freaked a lot of members out. These things add up and do make a difference, even if it's a small difference.

It has been OBVIOUS since about 1970 that world CO2 was moving steadily upward. What would have happened if we "turned the tide" back then? Look at the curve. Maybe it would have plateaued already in 1990 or 2000, instead of a steady rise--greenhouses gases and global warming!
