  • this made eveything simple wow your the best teacher :)

  • when i try to shrink my c drive after clicking shrink volume it gives me 0 mb as the largest i can shrink it! help?

  • how much space to u have free on ur hard drive ?

  • does vista need repaired after installing?

  • can you go through a video on " iAtkos"

    - which is dual booting Mac OS , please

  • Dual booting Windows and MacOS on a none Apple machine?

I know how and I would love to do a video BUT it is strictly against Apples EULA to install OSX on a none Apple machine. First thing you are going to want to do is convince Apple to get the stick out of their asses, then I can make that video.

I suggest checking out Linux in the mean time. If you still want to go ahead with it then the process is pretty much similar to this, you make free space and install osx there.

  • yeah, thanks alot the video made eveything simple and actually learned alot

and yeah im in the process of of installing it now.

    thanks again

  • Thanks for the video man. it really helped

  • can you burn it to a CD and instead of a DVD?

  • yes

  • i cant set up the wireless internet on kubuntu 9.10 netbook

  • I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 but there was no .ISO File.. Theres only a wubi installer, what do i do

  • the same happened to me ... i'm not sure what to do, or whether its worth trying to run it ?! if you find out what to do please say !!

    thanks

  • You must have downloaded the wrong thing. Wubi is an installer for use in windows that makes installing a dual boot really easy.

  • Use Wubi! I love that name lol!

  • @Rageman1112 me too! it's only for dual booting though, it's a program not an OS

  • When you dual boot, can you un-install Ubuntu if you want to?

  • No, deamon tools is a program within windows. To install you need to boot into Linux. You'll have to burn a cd/dvd or use a flash drive or some other external media.

  • Comment removed

  • you didn't have to show the "burn iso" part - just stick w/ the SUBJECT.

  • You wouldn't believe the amount of people that would say "what do I do with the ubuntu file" or "how do I put it on a disc".

You need the image on a disc or some other bootable media to be able to install. It certainly is a part of the subject of installing.

  • if i dont have a disk would i be able to use a flash drive or something?

  • It is possible but a little more involved. Google around a bit and you should find something.

Mandriva(the distribution I use) uses hybrid ISOs that can easily be dumped to a flash drive to install. So if you wanted to use that distro it would probably be easier.

  • Yes, but I believe you have to find a download for a USB version. I'm not entirely sure, so Google it.

  • Thanks man! :D

It worked. Now i can dual boot ubuntu and vista.

Ubuntu is really awesome ... fastest boot ever!

took a couple hours getting everything how i like it but its so worth it :)

    10 gigs partition, no problems.

  • My computer will only let me partition 3 gigs of my harddrive

  • Thats a common problem with the way Windows stores files. All I can say is run defrag a few times and possible try a 3rd party defrag program.

If that doesn't help a clean install would probably be the safest way.

You could use a different partition tool like GParted but I can't guarantee that all your data will be there afterwards.

  • thanks

  • Which Ubuntu are you using? 32 bit or 64 bit? Also, is it safe to assume that the same thing will work with Windows XP?

  • I use 32 bit Linux(I actually use Mandriva, not Ubuntu). I've had problems with 64bit linux in the past so I tend to stay away. Similar process with XP but XP doesn't have it's own partition tool so you are going to have to use a 3rd party program like GParted,

  • i got one problem, my laptop screen is broken, so i only see things in a little corner on the upper right hand... i managed to run the cd, boot and stuff, i saw a piece of the linux design.. BUT when i tried get the stuff over on my normal screen, (i have a widescreen, comp screen that i use instead of my broken laptop screen) i cant manage to get whats happening on the comp, i cant get a image on my widescreen, any ideas?

  • yah, i've tried the built in vista defragmenter couple times, and i've even set the virtual paging to 0 and yet its still only letting me shrink my viasta partition by 2 gigs! uggg

  • so i tried duel booting ubuntu with my vista that i already have installed. i get to partitions and for whatever reason, it's only letting me use 2gigs or so for ubuntu and i have 290 something gigs free! i've tried everything & i can't figure it out. ne one have n e suggestions? because with the space it's giving me, i can't do anything with ubuntu...not even load it lol. duno why its only giving me 2 gigs when i have 290 something free.

  • This is a common problem people have when their disk is fragmented. You are going to have to run the defragmenter to fix the problem. You may have to run it a few times and from what I hear the built in Vista one is pretty crappy so if it doesn't work you might want to try a 3rd party.

  • Thnks for giving me Idea & imgburn... wow so nice.... 8's very easy... But i don't see how did you totally, partition the hard drive without formatting...

  • Windows Vista has a built in tool that can take the free space off the end of a partition. This can also be done with tools like gParted.

If you have Vista just load up the partition manager, right click a partition and click shrink.

  • it corrupted my VISTA'S system32??? now i have to reboot my dam pc??? WHY?

    thanks :)

  • will this work if my windows 7 os is on a raid0 setup?

  • you sound like adam sandler

  • I've tried installing this with the Wubi installer and booting from CD.

When I try the Wubi installer, I get a window saying that Wubi is asking for access, but nothing happens after that.

When I boot the CD, I can highlight the different options, but nothing aside from "boot from hard disc" produces results. The CD will spool on both "Try" and "Install" options, but it never goes beyond the Ubuntu boot screen.

I'm using an HP 6735s, Vista and Ubuntu 9.04. Any idea what's wrong?

  • Sounds like it could be a bad disc.

  • thank you

  • nice ubuntu is free ... any iso softwares good, i personally like DVD Decrypter ... get fraps and tell it to moniter windows lol ... hey thats like a more complex version of DVD decrypter.... ... oh is this vista x64? or 32? i tried loading ubuntu 8 and i got the blue screen oh yeah uhm i hope viewers are smart cause this is quite complicated thanks uploader ;-)
  • How can I run Ubuntu in virtual machine?

  • same stuff. just pick install ubuntu.

  • nice tutorial, you may want to let people know about eausus partition master, this is a great software that I feel makes it easier to partition a drive. It is alot better for beginners and it works great in xp

  • nice vid man!!

    but i need help...

i installed ubuntu on a triple boot and now i wanna get rid of it but i aint got a windows vista disc because my computer came with windows vista all ready installed so can you help me any one plz send me a message plzzzzzzzzzz!!

  • Check out my video on how to remove/uninstall linux. It's on the main page of my channel. "Beginners starting with Linux. Uninstall / Remove Linux. Part 3.". I also have a write up on my blog about it.

  • BOSS

  • Er, is dual booting when you have 1 half of your screen windows and 1 half ubuntu? or is it just a propt that asks you at boot up whether you want to run on windows or ubuntu?

By the way i have the 9.04 Ubuntu CD... and i DON'T wnat to damage my windows in any way. I am not sure what to do.

Sorta scared i might hurt my new laptop.

  • Watch the rest of my linux videos and also check out the write ups on my blog(link in my channel page). Dual booting is picking which one to boot into when the machine turns on. I have videos on the proper way to install as well as un-install.

  • I'm confused... I had initially already had 50GB partioned on mine as I was planning on dual booting with XP but I'm gonna give Ubuntu a try, but anyway... just DL'ed Ubuntu and put it on a CD... it loads I try to install and the option for "Use the largest continuous free space" isn't an option... any ideas?

  • In the partition manager is that 50GB partition "free space" or "unallocated space". It needs to be unallocated to use the "use largest continuous free space option.

  • how come when i run the exe that window at 2:58?

  • do u have ne tutorials on how to install Ubuntu 9.04 on an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE? it is pissing me off i've been trying this s**t for 3days now, no success...thx

  • Pretty similar to this, just install to the external HDD. Only difference is in the BIOS you have to set it to boot from USB before anything else, otherwise it will boot from the internal or CD first.

Keep in mind that if it's a USB HDD it will be slower then using eSATA.

  • I can't shrink my c drive with more than 1036 MB. Why? I have 36 GB free space.

  • Your disk is fragmented to much. That means there is data everywhere on the disk and it can't find more then 1036MB of continuous space. Try defraging the disk a few times with different tools. If worst comes to worst you can use GParted, if you do I suggest backing up anything really important because it might corrupt some data(slim chance but there is one).

  • dude.. will it work for dual booting if i made another partition on another hard drive? thanks.. please reply asap

  • I don't see why not.

  • kk thanks.. ive tried it.. no problem at all

  • Excellent video thank you, I am assuming it is the exact same process as with windows7RC1?

  • I haven't tried W7 yet but if it has the same partition program it shouldn't be the same process.

The grub menu may not be set up to recognize W7 yet though so you might have to add it yourself. Not saying you will but it's a possibility.

  • Well i found a torrent that i used to download Ubuntu 9.40 and it was ready in like 1 hour and 15 minutes but the only problem with my computer was that it only had 95 R=memory of RAM(Pretty Old Computer:Windows Me with XP installed) so yeah i will probably wait until i get a new computer then i will boot the Ubuntu OS that i have saved on a Disk.

  • You have 95MB of RAM? Can you even run XP with that? Maybe you should check out "Damn Small Linux", google it.

  • yeah, don't you need like 256 MB? i have 1GB and thats not even that much

  • I got to say this a very nice video because i'm about to boot Ubuntu 9.04 and i hope it works well in my computer :)
