Just because Simo Hayha got a shitload of kills doesn't mean he is the best sniper... he got all those kills because of the abundancy of targets in the Winter War, i mean c'mon the soviet infantry used stupid infantry wave attacks and even a handicapped old man with a slingshot could kill something there. He even got shot by another sniper in the jaw, he is extremelly lucky he didn't get killed. In my opinion the best one is Carlos Hathcock, since he shot a Vietcong Guerrilla at 2090m with an M2

Simo Häyhä was the best sniper ever. He didn't have a tripod like these guys and he was in -40 Celsius cold temperatures. Also he didn't use a scope because it flashed with the sunlight so the enemy snipers would see him.

@Dogmeat1950 I think snipers had totally a different role in the ww2, and most rifle scopes then were only 4x magnifying to my knowledge. Also Simo had used some special tactics for his work, like freezing the snow around him so when he shot the snow wouldn't puff up & move around him. Many finnish soldiers had a hunting background which means they knew how to stalk the prey.

Whys everyone freaking out, its not a dick measuring contest. he is known to be one of the best snipers there are, but the 300yd apple shot was just something to watch while they were explaining, long shots were still to come beyond this clip. Plus they were testing the time that it took at different ranges to hit the target, not that he was the best sniper ever.

At that distance, air pressure, wind, the bullet's shape, it rotation and its surface influence the results significantly... you need very complex maths to compute that precisely. I don't why they choose to do the test for real, but sometimes it's just better and easier to do so.
