I am a feminist (and fuck you on the skank part) and I found nothing offensive about this video at all. In fact, it is one of my favorite songs AND videos. I don't know where you heard that crap, probably made up in your chauvinist little mind. I distinctly remember this getting a ton of airplay for a long time.
Donnie was in The Jaggerz with my father (one of three lead vocals). My father played drums and sang vocals on The Rapper that Donnie Iris wrote and sang. He told me at my father's funeral The Rapper was written around my father's soulful style. The Jaggerz were ahead of their time. As was DI!
I frickin love Donnie Iris' music. If you string together Ah Leah, Do you Compute, Love is Like a Rock, and Tough World you can't find 4 more kicking songs. If he had put them all on one album in the early 80's it would have been a landmark record, talked about like Huey Lewis or Yes. He was just a solid solid songwriter.
IVE SEEN DONNIE IRIS IN CONCERT IN CLEVELAND THEY FUCKING ROCKED BETTER THAN BULLSHIT MTV SHOVES UP YOUR ASS FUCK RAP FUCK MTV FUCK VH1 THOSE FUCKERS WOULD NT KNOW GOOD MUSIC IF IT BIT THEM IN THE ASS ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS UP THE IRONS ILOVE IRON MAIDEN

I had the joy of watching him play this on the Robert Clemente Bridge last night at Light Up night in Pittsburgh. Thousands jumping up and down while fireworks lit up the Allegheny River - great great stuff!
Wow what a video! The drummer should clean his drums at 0:45, but at 1:05, he spins his sticks with so much style he's cool nonetheless. Donnie should learn to type faster at 1:15, and the keyboard solo at 2:00 is unbelievable!
This video was getting heavy airplay on MTV back in 1983, and then a bunch of feminist skanks decided it was a sexist video and complained to MTV about it and got it pulled. Let's give Donnie his due and give this video a million views!!!!!!!!!
@futuremath08 kind of ironic that he writes a song about how a girl misunderstands what he says and then a feminist group misunderstands that message and takes it offensively, they obviously don't compute
true story. back in 90 or 91 I worked in a motel in north lima ohio one night around 2 in the morning who walks in but Donnie Iris. he doesnt want a room he just wants to use the crapper. well we didnt really have a public bathroom back then in this dump so I just let him use room 1 caz it was closest to the office.
donnie did a small number of one hit wonders .. but after the 1980's he seemed fall of the face of the planet , no concerts no nothing , but i heard he;s still around doing concerts in 2009 , thats great .would lov to see him...
It sure does! I have been playing this song a lot since August 2009. I remember seeing the video when I was a kid, it was rather fascinating. I can only imagine there being a 2009 verison of this song.
This song got some good airtime on Album Rock radio in 1983 :D

Man what an awesome song. Donnie had some of the best hooks out there in his songs. Killer bass lines too.

@nervusboy He probably lives there now (in Beaver County somewhere) but he is originally from Ellwood City. Hence his latest album.

@futuremath08 What about the Heavy Metal videos that came out at about the same time or just after, that were more suggestive than this?

"Do you compute?", that is probably one of the best ways to say, "Do you know I love you?". I'll try it some day.
