  • Only a hockey player knows the true terror of the words " goal line, now!"

  • Think you can win on talent alone? Gentleman, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone.

  • common men go nowhere, you have to be uncommon, awesome qoute!!

  • Doing these just a few times down and back would burn your ass, this is a great scene and I think he got his point across...

  • At 7:44: Clearly thinking, "Man I wish I had thought of saying that a lot sooner..."

  • the legs feed the wolf

  • I remember...in 8th grade football we were goofing off with a bumch of volleyball players. My coach made us do same exact thing. I only, came to realize this now! man I shudda asked him whether he got the, ides from this movie lol.

believe me....we suffered jus like these hockey players. Except in really really hot weather.

  • @FeastfromEast Doing it in cold weather is just as bad. When you're sucking in the air of the rink it feels like needles are stabbing the inside of your lungs.

  • Doc:Herb, the rink manager he wants to clean the ice and then go home.

Herb: well tell him to get on the goal line...... That one

    Manager: :'(

  • I'm only in the eighth grade and my soccer coach made us do this! She made us run full sprints, but we had to do full field, back and forth ten times, no stopping whatsoever. It was freaking torture! And the whole time I was thinking, "holy crap, Miracle much??"

  • poor backup goalie

  • get on the goal line!... that one!!

  • More people and coaches like this --- this country would be so much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Great music during this entire scene!

  • my practice tomorrow is this...

  • Comment removed

  • In the commentary for the dvd the director said he actually worked the actors over and over in this scene until they were exhausted. "I didn't want them to just look tired, I wanted them to BE tired".

  • Herb Brooks didn't want to be loved by his team.... he wanted his guys to WIN!

  • I hated that drill. And I guess that's why I don't play hockey.

  • my team did this today.... -.-

  • Best sports movie ever.

  • I'm in hockey too and 2 seasons ago, our coach got pissed at us because we didn't play that hard in the game and the practice about 2 days later after the game our coach said " on the line" and I was a goalie in that practice unfortunately and he made us day that same drill. then about 20 minutes later, 2 kids got in a fight and I'm not sure why they were in a fight but any way he made us do "herbies" and until the end of practice so it pretty much sucked

  • my coach was in this movie he said they skated for like 4-5 hours

  • @Amazingtrickster13 impossible. 3 days, 12 hours a day to make the exhaustion look real. that's what they skated.

  • 2:42 best quote in hockey

  • @CPriceKSteeg310 its the best quote in life

  • @CPriceKSteeg310 best quote in sports history. not just hockey

  • the five people who disliked it were on the team

  • Again!

  • 5 people didnt get it through their heads

  • How Kurt Russell did not get best actor in this film is beyond me!

  • @SpencerJamesComedy I completely agree!

  • Best scene ever. Trust me when I say the scariest thing a coach can say is "We may not be the best team, but we will be the best conditioned."

  • RIP coach Brooks! Too bad you never got to see the movie! Kurt Russel more then made up for when Karl Malden portrayed you.

  • Great scene. Unfortunately, I know how they feel.

  • If you keep playing this way, you won't beat anyone good, let alone great. YOU WANT TO MAKE THIS TEAM, THEN YOU BETTER START PLAYING AT A LEVEL THAT'S GOING TO FORCE ME TO KEEP YOU HERE! AGAIN!

  • Mike Eruzione Winthrop Mass. who do you play I play for The United States of America

  • is this scene based on a real event by herb brooks or just an add in by disney? fucking inspirational part nonetheless

  • @Hydrofication13 It' based on the real event. These today r known as "Herbies"

  • @Hydrofication13 oh it's real alright. They even made the actors (who were actual hockey players btw!) do them for real! So it's 100% real! Also side fact: Brooks made them go back and forth like in the scene but it ended differently. In actuality it didn't end with Rizzo screaming "I play for the US!!" it ended with Mark Johnson smashing his hockey stick through the glass out of anger :P

  • @8182570

Is that for real? i would think the anger would make herb keep going cause it meant he was starting to get to them....

  • Comment removed

  • @epilon497 yup! That is for real. I have Miracle on DVD and on the special features there is an interview with Buzz Schneider and his son, Billy. Buzzy talks about what really happened. It was a great father and son interview :D

  • Greatest movie scene ever

  • 1956 Soviet Union United States Canada

1960 United States Canada Soviet Union

    1964 Soviet Union Sweden Czechoslovakia

    1968 Soviet Union Czechoslovakia Canada

1972 Soviet Union United States Czechoslovakia

1976 Soviet Union Czechoslovakia West Germany

1980 United States Soviet Union Sweden

    1984 Soviet Union Czechoslovakia Sweden

    1988 Soviet Union

in the first round the soviets beat japan 16-0,in the second round they beat the netherlands 17-4.hard work is what beat the soviets.

  • Kurt Russell was perfect as Herb Brooks!

  • i bet the three people who disliked this are russian

  • Imagine how terrible it felt for the actual players in 1980... These guys probably get water in between each run... Not to take credit from the actors, because I could probably make three steps on skates and then fall on my face, but imagine the shit the 1980 USA hockey team went through...

    Props to them.

  • @sseasshark nope. In the special features, the director said he wanted these boys to actually be sick. They aren't playing. It's real puke and sweat and tears

  • @mizeri4life108 Seriously? And they agreed to do this? Damn... how much money are they getting paid.

Either way, thanks for clearing that up, and now give props to both the 1980 USA Team and these guys for pushing through this like champs.

  • I love this scene. Its probably my favorite scene because they realize what they have to do if they want to win.

It sort of reminds me of the team scene in the lockers in The Mighty Ducks 2 during their championship game.

  • Kurt Russel is an amazing actor.

  • Go ahead skin'em skin that smoke wagon and see what happens..... Sorry wrong flick lmao Great movie though.

  • One of the best scenes from one of my favorite movies but I gotta say... this scene always reminds me of those experiments where they test to see how far a person will go to inflict pain onto another person (actually an actor, faking it) just because an authority figure orders them to. I couldn't help but wonder how many more times Coach Patrick would blow that whistle before he said: "You want them to go again, Herb? Then take this whistle and blow it out your ass!

  • I love how at 0:37 you hear one of the players ask "this for a picture or something?" LOL little did he realize...

  • Again

  • at 1:47 why did the goalies have to skate farther than the skaters did?

  • @danynumero6 They don't go farther. They go slower because of the heavy pads they're wearing.

  • @armsofzeus That may be but take a look at 1:40 they do go farther

  • @danynumero6 I know it looks like that. I'm sure they just jumped a couple lines so it didn't drag out. The others I'm sure went to the far line and back and the goalies were still on there way there.

  • Don't mess with Snake Plissken.

  • @kalteich LMFAO Wow, Cash is pretty tough even without Tango!

  • my favorite part is when he says "you got a hot date in about an hour but youre not looking too good for that right about now are ya?"

  • This may be my single most favorite piece of cinema

  • This is one of my most favorite movies scenes of all time. The cinematography, the music, and most importantly the message Coach Brook's makes his players realize.

  • I love this scene

  • "This cannot be a team of common men. Because common men go nowhere. You have to be uncommon."

  • Anyone know if this actually happened or just hollywood glamming it up ?

  • @dornan11 this actually happened. but not exactly shown here. the whole "i play for the united states of america" didn't happen. the whole running back and forth ended when one of the players, from what i heard, broke the glass with his stick

  • @dornan11 also just to add on what i wrote earlier: they did run in the dark

  • @dornan11 yah it did happen but i dont think he said the stuff he said in this scene

  • I love this scene! Coaches who take no crap and push their players to the limit; it makes them better as people and as a team!!

  • three people did not like herb yelling "again!"

  • Comment removed

  • This is a phenomenal scene. In order for any team to succeed, the individual members need to die to self and be re-molded in order to play together. Also, it's not unlike what our good, gracious and merciful Heavenly Father does to us, so that we will be made into HIS image, purpose and design -- the opposite of what we would rather do!

  • we start at one goal line then go to the other then back, then to far dot by net, then back, then center then back, then closest dot then back

  • what we do is: start at the goal line, then go to the other one, then back to the goal line to the far faceoff dot by the net, then back, then to center, then back, then faceoff dot closest to starting line.

  • Plus we only get 45 seconds

  • We do something similar to this in my hockey practice. Once or twice every practice, no matter what.

  • I wonder if anyone knows exactly how many times the actual team was sent by Brooks to go "again." I'm guessing @ 30

  • great scene. hairs on neck stand up.

  • We did suicides similar to this in one of my basketball practices, I think we did about 13 suicides

  • @cnc597

Yeah..same here but I think they're called 'wind sprints.'

  • I forget that they played a game before this by the end of the scene lol

  • This scene gives me the chills every time.

  • does anyone know the song that was in this movie and goes like "sing miracle sing for the year sing for the love and sing for the tears" or something like that?

  • Comment removed

  • @CpGlit I believe you're thinking of "Dream On" by Aerosmith

  • @Ravensguru52 ok thanks sooo much!

  • @CpGlit It's an old Aerosmith song, from when mid-Seventies or so when they first starting out. "Dream On" is the name of the song.

  • this really happened!! need more coaches like this -- this countrys athletes suck with discipline!!

  • In the very end of the scene craig patrick gives that look, like ok I really get why he did this. Very moving!!!

  • If there are any tough hockey coaches out there, I'd use this scene from the movie to motivate your team to go above and beyond. Graet scene despite the suffering the players had to go through.

  • I counted 13

  • 2 people were on the USA hockey team that tied Norway...

  • @thefunnypharaoh good one you fucking idiot

  • @eight634 im curious as to how my comment could in any way shape or form make me an idiot...not only an idiot but a "fucking idiot." don't get me wrong, ive heard that before, but i usually do something to entice it. calm down, it's only youtube.

  • @vdven its also funny how when they won in 72, it wasn't even the Olympics. the soviets won every year since 64. lol

  • thw 2 people that dislike this must be russian.

"In Soviet Russia, hockey plays you"

  • did they make a movie about the 72 team did they? DID THEY? GO 1980 USA HOCKEY!!!

  • @USAbeliever2010 speaking of 1972, it's kind of strange how the silver medal winning USA team of that year has been totally forgotten. It's like they never even existed.

  • "You guys don't wana work during the game? No proble we'le work now" Love it

  • Yeah we should maybe then it would start being about us the American People.

  • let's go hit some people!

  • 1972 was better...

  • @newjerseydevilfan30 bullshit. That was a bunch of Pros from Canada who took the series to the 7th game and won. This is a bunch of college kids playing Pros. No way in hell 72 was better. even my canadian friends say it was not better then the us beating the russians.

  • @EyesOfTheSouthSTi You're a Devils fan - what the hell would you know about good, interesting hockey?

  • @onetwopunchify we have 3 cups. I've seen them all. Winning is winning no matter if you do it interestingly or not.

  • "the name on the front is a HELLUVA lot more important than the one on the back" so so so true in a team sport... everyone single person who plays team sports should remember that

  • @Superfly7111994 when i first saw this movie and i heard that line it gave me chills cause it is so perfect. it kinda frustrates me that EVERYBODY uses that line now and it's sort of lost it's impact

  • i always hope this happens to my team when they have a bad loss

  • u dont see coaches like Herb brooks anymore!

  • When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself and your teammates. And the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back! Get that through your head!!

  • @deflock2 AGAIN!

  • @deflock2 5 people didn't get that through their heads

  • Next time we have suicides at hockey practice,I'm so gonna say the Mike Eruzione line.

  • This can not be a team of Common men because common men go nowhere, you have to be uncommmon

  • my dad is good friends with Mike Eruzione. hes so nice and down to earth. my dad had this raffle thing for a friend of his that had a daughter with cancer and mike came and he bought a ton of raffle tickets then gave them to my sister. she won a signed Chara stick.

  • The US victory over Russia is definitely the greatest moment in the history of sports...a college hockey team beating probably the greatest hockey team of all time

  • We should try this with politicians. Since they can't decide who they play for. Maybe sending them again and again and again would wake them up.

They are not supposed to play for one group or segment, they are supposed to play for the United States of America.

  • @sastath

That was the best comment ever!!!! You cracked me up!!!!!

    Rick Pardo

    Los Angeles

  • @sastath Very well said! I would LOVE to do that to them!

  • @sastath no shit

  • @sastath Yeah, but to say that one part of America is like another is not that simple.

  • "When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself and your teammates. And the name on the front is a hell of alot more important than the one on the back"...one of the best quotes ive ever heard

  • I did this today in hockey some kid on my team yelled out the mike eruzione line and the coach just blew the whistle again it was hilarious

  • THIS SCENE INSPIRED ME TO NEVER GIVE UP WHEN IM TRAINING FOR WHATEVER IM TRING TO ACCOMPLISH...I JUST TELL MYSELF TO DO IT AGAIN AND KEEP GOING

  • Imagine if HErb Brooks was like the fuck eruzione? again

  • @DarthMurph21 LMAO! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HILARIOUS!

  • fuck u the dislike

  • "Who do you play for?"

"I play for....the United States of America."

    Best line of the movie.

  • This was one of the thigns that helped make them the best conditioned team in the Olympics. They used that to their advantage in the USSR game at Lake Placid.

  • did anyone catch what one of the US players said at around 0:38 ? "Is this a picture or something?" LOL--little did they realize...

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 YEah loll wtf XD

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 I laughed at that part too hahha

  • i ave watched this movie four times today. i am obbbssseeeessssseeedd with itt <3 and this is my second favorite partt. <3 and the acctually documentary is so amazing i cry everytime i watch it. i love hockey and this movie just takes my love for it to the next level.

  • This scene can make a grown man cry, aka my dad and me (well i'm a girl but oh well)

  • I'm about to go into Teach for America and for every endeavor that I come across in Detroit, I'll probably be watching this scene for inspiration. AMAZING MOVIE!

  • anyone know if Eruzione actually said that or is that just hollywood?

  • @believeland8 nah it didn't go down like that...theres a really good hbo documentary on the team and they said he just skated them for like an hour then they left. I gotta believe someone would have mentioned this if it really happened it would be a huge moment for the team. They really did shut the lights off on them to try and get them out of there tho i thought that was kinda funny. I don't really care if this never happened its one of the best scenes in the movie.

  • @believeland8 Theres one scene i hoped they would film but i didn't expect them too b/c an f-bomb was said and this is a Disney movie. During the 2nd intermission of the gold medal game after beating USSR they were down 2-1 to finland. Brooks walked in the locker room and said u lose this game and you'll take it to ur fucking grave and then walked out. I thought that was awesome and totally brooks style, no hollywood pep talk or shit like that he just told it like it was

  • @nythreefer That was his pep talk for the gold medal game against the Fins. Not the Russians.

  • @DrBoni7 yeh thats what i said. read the post.

  • @nythreefer Ok you're right, I missed that part. Most people screw up that detail!

  • One of the greatest scenes of movie history. RIP Herb Brooks.

  • favorite scene of the movie... did this actually happen though

  • @eagles9own yeah coach herb actually made them do this after a game

  • "the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important then the one on the back, get that through your head!"

    perhaps one my favorite quotes

  • Common guys, as a Canadian, i say stop arguing over who's better between Canada and the US. The US has won some Olympics, and Canada has won some Olympics. You can't accurately judge who is better based off how well the specific players played together that one night.

Get over yourselves, and quit trying to compare!

P.S: man, suicide drills suck ass...

  • AMURIKA

  • Thank God for this movie. If this movie wasn't made, i wouldn't be playing hockey. Thank God.

  • watching this scene gave me a new respect for hockey, pretty clear now that its not a sport for quitters

  • If people in the u.s cared about hockey we would be the best at it

  • Lol dude.

Im american, so dont think im not.

    BUT.

The US came THIS close to a gold medal. ITs not that the canadians are better, its that crosby got out on a breakaway...

  • @TheGiambino1 yayaya you say the same thing about basketball and yet, spain beats you. americans are so scared of losing they wont even play japan in baseball.

the only thing they are the best at is football because they are the only ones to play, and even Canadians are making it in the NFL

  • your the dumber than jim rome when it comes to sports kid

  • that would have sucked extra bad to have been one of the goalies.

  • the mike euruzione part i heard wasn't true but this def. was as u guys have said

  • goosebumps everytime!! and i've seen it 100 times!!! best sports scene ever

  • If you don't get a little man tear during this scene, then you don't have a pulse.

  • I love this movie, herb brooks is my hero! may you rest in peace herb brooks! your time on earth was amazing to the USA. Well done!

  • is this true? did Brooks do this?

  • Absolutely. Although I don't know about the Mike Eruzione part at the end.

  • well, something had to get them off the ice, anyway. Thanks for the reply dude!

  • Well, i would think its true.

  • Yes he did

  • Yes they really did. herb brooks actually made them do those for a hour, well we no it was worth it!

  • sends chills down my spine...these boys should be an inspiration to all americans

  • Great scene. Probably the most moving scene in any sports movie. If more coaches and athletes had attitudes like that, the USA would be unbeatable in everything

  • And, thats why the won.

  • Alpo Suhonen!

  • My favorite scene in the movie. Gives me goosebumps at the end. GO USA!
