@azam3000 yep but these people signed up to be there, unlike the people in a real jail. besides I think they think its really cool to be in this "Jail" and that they actually contrabuting something to the society. :)
my neighbor used to play World of Warcraft for 5 months straight without leaving the house.. Maybe he could be good candidate for long-term human confinement.
@ZeroC0ol1989 Why, it's just what they do all day anyway. Doing experiments, chatting with friends over skype, looking at a laptops. It's just that now they don't have to hear all the moaning from the outside world for a change. Now that's what I call life.
It's nothing new, and it's all for the better. Except for the gym, of course. They'll have to get used to that one :P
And it's pretty funny that they start this expiriment while we are on the verge of discovering new technologies that massivly shorten the travel time from about 3 months to 3 weeks
@ZeroC0ol1989 right, ion engines. But we know how to build those. They're just not very practical because they're expensive and need to be launched from space. thing is, you need to confine and maintain a plasma, which is difficult.
The plasma engine has a very low power output whilst still being very efficient, so for long journeys it's great, but for mars, afaik, not so much.
I'm glad to have found somebody who thinks space is interesting too :D
=) yea but like i said i was not sure check out the documentaries about the Universe from the history channel its an awesome space documentaries google re1ease and click documentaries and search the universe just in case you never watched it or dont live in the USA
Oh and Constellation is more like... Cancellation XD
Well they say they want to rebuild the rockets now or something... but I dont see this as a reality we need to step away from the fossil fuel and come with better ideas
@ZeroC0ol1989 Obama did propose to cancel Constellation, but he later took back what he said and it's well on its way now.
I agree with your ideas on fossil fuels, but there really are very few ways to provide enough thrust to accelerate such a large mass. ion, plasma and other such engines only work in space because they provide 0.01g of thrust, so we're left with space elevators, which require complex carbon nanotube constructs, or space cannons.

this experiment rules out gravity and the feeling of not being home on earth, shouldn't this have been done at the iss?

And the food ;)
And probably the isolation because as far as i know the skype connection is not life and will have a longer lag more and more

@ZeroC0ol1989 1. I heard they have the natural ~20 minute lag with everyone. It's a shame :/
2. Are we? :O Does that have to do with NASA's Constellation programme? I didn't know about it, bring me up to speed :D

Nah i think it was something with ION engines...
I'm not absolutely sure because I watch lots of documentaries about space~
