I don't care which bit of his body he's using - but there is always some really great bass playing on any video where DeFrancesco is playing - and almost never a bass player :-o
I just saw Frank Vignola live opening for Tommy Emmanuel, he was amazing. I even got an autographed cd from him, he's a really sweet guy. I just think its funny how i completely accidentally stumbled upon this video.
I get that it's fast and very well played, but so is a hooker playing a fiddle. I just don't see the point. Jazz prides itself on originality, but I haven't heard a single original thing from jazz in who knows how long. Notes, notes, notes played as fast as possible over chords. That whole concept is just getting so dull for me.
It's a good thing people don't talk that way. Shut up and take a breather in a while! Say something important. Enough with the verbal diarrhea!
@0932486509 Actually I have farts that sound more original than most jazz. If it's originality you're looking for, then I can hook you up! Wait till you hear this!
@pamirs94 That is merely one line of the description - it reads 'Joey DeFranceso Trio - Ya See What I'm Sayin' - with Frank Vignola. Isartolie (the dude who used to have all of these DeFrancesco videos up) has been suspended.' Mr Vignola most certainly is not suspended - though he should be, he's making me want to get my guitar nd break it in half.
Joey is like Bill Evans as he grew older. Joey's solos are more muscial than they were after he played with Miles Davis. He is a very happy guy and you can tell on this cut.
His technique has also gotten so much better. In a video with Miles his trills were all over the place. In the end of this song, they looked much more relaxed.
I think the extra cool part about this (most people don't realize), is that there's no Bass Guitarist; De Francesco is playing that walking bass using his feet on the pedal board!
Yes. I've seen Joey live many times. He's playing the bass line with his left hand, but if look closely, when he's not tapping with his foot, it's following his hand. It's not pronounced until he wants to emphasize the left hand sound with his foot, but that's all left hand. AND IT'S STEADY!!!!!
It freaks me out how the bass line in the left hand stays steady as well as creative while that insane solo goes on in the right hand. The man has more than one brain!
@HammondB200 I know man, everywhere, on just about any B3 video - even if theres a shot of the organist barely moving his feet, if just to play the root, people assume it's where the awesome bassline is coming from, the wonder of the hammond's great manual. Then again, wouldn't it be awesome to hear a bassline such as this one, played on the pedal board - I bet Mr DeFrancesco could do it if it so took him. Many thanks for the isartolie replacement service!
I'm suprised that Frank Vignola doesn't play with much of the biggest cat's in the world today. Correct me if i'm wrong. Maybe he just wouldnt fit with like, Joshua redman, Chris Mcbride, etc... He seems very traditional maybe? Don't know his all around playing as much. He's so good on this howerver. Bravo!
Strongly disagree, Joey Oscar and Chick are all GREAT in their own rights. What Joey can do that they can't, well oscar and chick can do aalot of stuff which joey can't. No need to compare though. They are all great!
The guitarist looks like Bob Saget

I really admire Charlie Hunter, but this guy is phenomenal as well.

lInspired by the octave playing of Wes Montgomery and George Benson, Frank plays more in the style of Bucky Pizarelli and his son John Pizarelli Jr.
Check out the post of Frank and Bucky playing Limehouse Blues....btw
Bucky is playing a 7 string guitar which accounts for the ultral low tones.

What's amazing is that he's holding down the bass line with his left hand as his right smokes the upper manual. Quite mind-blowing.

@HammondB200 He does a little of both. I've heard him "comp" with his LH during a solo and obviously the foot pedals are doing the bass line.
