Biggest pockets I've ever seen. I thought Earl was going to fall into one of them. Man they are terrible coloured tables! Who could possibly think this was a better option than green?
@jamessquire1 you're right about the colour, maybe if the table itself was a darker colour of wood the cloth wouldn't look too bad. it also looks worse in the overhead shots too I reckon.
@9ballalex great. what do have here, another snooker snob, perhaps? sorry if i'm jumping the gun, but i'm just so sick of people bitchin about pocket size. if the players do not achieve perfect position or close to it, the pockets could be 7 inches, you'll sink it, but lousy position on the next. i was gonna post about how freakin cool it is to see a young pearl vs the miz(who looks 55, not 39) & the first post i see is yours. blaach!!
@jdbankshot Sorry but you are mistaking xD.... Im from El Salvador and I´m a professiona pool player, I have never played snooker in my life, but....it´s just that the side pockets looks huge...that´s all xD
Also funny to see how weak the strategy was then, too. Were they even playing push out rules? I played money games in the early 70's, and we played push-out rules then. In any case, BOTH players could have used safeties to their great advantage in the first game.
@ManOfTheWhirled - Nah, I'll stand by "pretty good." John Stravinsky is very knowledgeable for a non-pro. Leandra Reilly leaves a bit to be desired, but for the early days of ESPN she's better than "a freakin' joke."
Wow!! Thanks so much for posting this. I had this on beta way back when and I watched it a LOT. I've been looking for this for years. This match made me a lifelong lover of 9 ball and a huge Earl Strickland fan.
That first break of The Miz was terrible might have helped caused his losing, check that out a horrible pro level break the balls ....

Interesting to see "Earl" when he's not yet quite EARL! He's mighty good, sure; but he's not the MONSTER he'd be in another 5-10 years.

The Pearl is still playing with his "Moochi" at this point in time. I have a video of him playing in Japan around 88 or so.
