  • Didn't this advert get pulled after people complained it was sexist or something?

  • Comment removed

  • Caledonia = Scotland

  • lol

  • I remember this add in my young southern African country. Back when everyday people were real and only politicians were crooked.

  • @tonightwefly All the airlines forgot that the passengers now do have a choice.

  • Being a piper with B.Cal was a real experience and joy - being paid to fly out and perform in exotic countries at the behest of embassies, and TV companies etc. was the stuff dreams were made of !

  • When did caledonian go bust/ stop services??!!

  • @TheRydo100 Hi Rydo

This happened when the "powers to be" made a bad business choice and swopped the Saudi routes with British Airways and South American routes with BCAL. The company then could not regain itseld and merged with British Airways.

I worked for BCAL in the start of 1984

    John

  • @fletchyyz1961 - i think you'll find there is more behind it than that but most will never know. My father worked wit bua and bcal and went on to be he executive board based at gatwick up until the take over in 88

  • @TheRydo100 They merged with BOAC and BEA to become British Airways!

  • OKAY THIS IS WHAT I DO ON MY LAYOVERS.......I YOUTUBE,,,, DO YOU?...HELPS WITH THE JET LAG

  • Gotta love the soft laugh and smile of the pretty stewardess!!! :)

  • Awesome!

  • Hey that's Carl Wayne singing the song! :-)

  • My mum was one of them in the 1980s-1990s.

  • Crazy addition here to my music playlists for each of the last 100 years!!

    A trip back in time awaits at the click of your mouse . . . . . . . . . .

  • Somebody please explain to me how this ad is sexist.

  • BCAL and BA were as bad as eachother. We can always remember and renimiss over BCAL but the true airline of this era was Laker Airways. Thanks to the government, BA, BCAL , AA, Pan Am and TWA it was out of business in 1982. I am glad that BCAL hit the dust by getting brought out by BA in 88

  • BA = Cunts!

  • here here

  • Correct me if I am wrong (as I am sure you will) but the slogan "We never forget you have a choice...." wasn't this purloined by Bastartd Airlines, otherwise known as BA? Sorry, Brit Cal were lovely but after you get delayed 7hrs in Chicago by "your own" airline with no explanation it tends to colour your outlook. Mea Culpa.

  • Very nice i wish more Commercials had more intelligence like this one does

  • Uh...hello, haven't we learnt anything about sexism in the ages? Hmm...! This commercial would be inappropriate for our times today.

  • Get a life

  • I have one.

  • Now these were adverts!

  • too true!

  • The Caledonian Girl at the end is my mum! Glad you all like it. She doesn't think the advert is sexist, its just a bit of fun :-)

  • Have you heard of the movie called "Taboo"?

  • Bravo!!

  • What is/are the reason(s) British Caledonian no longer exists?

  • BCal was the biggest independent scheduled airline in the UK and was BA's biggest competition in those days. BCal fell into some financial troubles in '87 and BA offered to help out. The airline was absorbed into BA taki ng on BCal scheduled routes. The charter division of BA (British Airtours) was rebranded to Caledonian which existed for 12 or 13 years.

  • BCal never forgot you had a choice. Nor could BA, so they bought BCal to solve the problem.

  • I've flown with JOSH airlines

  • Wow - its not very often you can say sexist, cheesy, and nostalgic all at the same time! But that's what this video is....

  • the right combination!

  • I well remember this ad. The lovely Enn Reitel was the star of this. He was really nice and sent me a photo. Where has the time gone, I wonder.

  • "Because life is so breif and time is a thief when your undecided, and like a fist full of sand that can slip right through your hands"

  • 727Hushkits. What a lovely comment. So sad and yet so true. Take care my friend. Love, meljaxon. x.

  • i love this advert but why is it sexist

  • get out of it corse it is sexist but it just shows that people didnt take themselves as seriously then and it is still a great ad

  • Fabulous!

  • How right you are blobsplatt those kilts were what kept us Pilots 'On the Job'. My wife still has hers and YES!! it still fits. Lucky for me it still comes out on high days and holidays,

  • Fabulous!

  • This wouldn't "fly" in the US! Flight attendant union and PC crowd would be horrified. In reality, American flight attendants are mostly old and ugly. It's union and government rules, you know! You can't discriminate against old and ugly people.

  • I always thought it was mandatory for a flight attendant to be attractive, what Airline have you been flying with mukarung.

  • Delta and North West! They are all old hags.

  • my freind who recxently just retired from being a flight attendant with delta airlines was very upbeat and helpful i am sure many people have benefitted from her attitude so watch watch you type!

  • lol

  • nice ad beats loads of ads today, but then again if this was shown today it would probably be banned because of sexism.just shows that we dont take ourselves as seriously

  • If this was shown today left-wing ugly lezzies will having their machetes out!

  • wow good ad

  • How much you wanna bet if this were aired today there's be lawsuits from some crackpot PC feminists saying its degrading and sexist. Really shows how we didn't take ourselves so seriously back in the good old days.

  • Bribgs back so many happy times from the mid 1960s to the demise of "CALUUUDONIAN" Just loved that kilt on a windy day at LGW!!!!

  • what an ad.i remember it back in 1982.ive flown british caledonian and it was great but we were unable to sing the song

  • This took my back to my childhood where flying was still a bit glamourous, and the flight attendants were in my opinion a little happier, prettier, and really one the of best parts of the flying experience.

  • Man, this advert takes me back to Hong Kong in the 80's!! Love it!

  • im obsessed by this advert!!! It's so cheesy.

  • I remember as a little kid taking Caledonian

  • As an former cabin crew member of Caledonian Airways I can assure you Caledonian (CKT) merged with Flying Colours (FCL), to become JMC in 1999 and then rebranded at Thomas Cook Airlines (TCX) who are still operating.

  • This looks horribly sexist now.

  • You're right. An ad like that would never fly in the States, excuse the pun!

  • Thie advertisement was for British Caledonian Airways which was taken over by British Airways in 1988. The name "Caledonian" was retained and used for BA's charter division and it was this airline which eventually formed Thomas Cook Airlines. This advert has nothing to do with any charter airlines.

  • Caledonian and Flying Colours merged to form JMC, who are now Thomas Cook Airlines

  • Correction. caledonian merged yes...but not British Caledonian....BCal and BA merged. Caledonina became the charter airline of BA until it was sold.

  • Which was called British Airtours.

  • Unfortunately not. They were folded into British Airways as a whole in the early 90s I think. Or into some other airline. Either way, Caledonian no longer exist. Tis a shame.

  • Is this airline still in the UK?
