My first solo was 6 years ago. When my instructor got out, he said "nice meeting you." We chuckled, though being a student, I was nervous, naturally. After taxiing out and doing a few take offs and landings, and making it back safe, I was like "My god, I made it!" Best feeling in the world. It's like learning to walk for the first time and knowing that you've done it all on your own. Can't speak for other pilots, but I'm sure most would never forget their first solo.
Was dreaming of my first solo since i was 5. It happened later in life when i was 37. No one can explain the feeling. I feel a bit weird saying this but, when i taxied back, and shut the plane down, after my first solo, my eyes welled up with tears of joy. My instructor said "Well done mate, what's wrong?" I said, "i've been waiting to do that all my life". Its something that you will never forget.
First thing I watched after my first solo last week. Absolutely brilliant, when people ask me how I felt, I show them this. I soloed again today for an hour and a half and the feeling was even stronger. I also agree with skippytbk's comment about unicom. REALLY kept wondering why this cropduster was using 22 when the winds were favoring 4.
I soloed at Fort Worth Spinks 6000 ft.on 17R in a 172. was at pattern before the end of the runway.. my instructor was 250 minimum..felt like i was in a bonanza
Yeah, I only found that DVD recently but that one sequence made me go and open my log book and run my finger along that one single entry. Think I stood there for about 20 minutes. Brilliant documentary.
Man they hit the nail on the head...I soloed in a 172 about 10 years ago and this just brought back a ton of memories. I still remember the tail number (one six zero lima hotel) haha the runway was Fort Worth Spinks 16R. what a coincedence
you gotta love the music, it fits perfectly with the moment. this is my all-time favorite movie. Great job Brian! I'm gonna try and get my license very soon.

My first solo wasn't terribly memorable because I already had 40+ hours then. (I took a 5 year break between lessons)
My first Night rating solo was much more memorable though, and scary.
