  • Yes I know that, and if I use the locker on pavement, the truck starts to jump when do turns. Thats why I only usend when needed on soft surfaces (sand or dirt hill climbs). The reason why I did the gray wire mod, is because I wanted to used in 4HI in dunes. Other than that is pointless, at least for me. Anyway thanks for your comments

  • That's awesome. I wish my truck had a locker. Hopefully one of these days I can install one myself from a totaled/junked tacoma.

  • @lifeisgood070 ok, that's what I was thinking. do you know what all is evolved in installing a TRD locker?... I'm trying to get my hand on an 03 myself and am looking at different options myself :-) (cost will be a concern for me top)

  • @aodhanof90 I totally do agree with you. A trd locker will cost you at least. 900 us dlls, and you can get an air ARB for much less and will get at least same or better results. And if you go for and ARB, the second locker (eg front) will cost you much less because you can use the same air compressor used for the rear locker.

  • @asstuto Compared to a new TRD locker, the price for a new ARB is less. But not a whole lot less, and then there's the compressor. A good used TRD locker will be less.

    I don't want to rely on a compressor to lock my diff. Air can leak, hoses can tear, while wires are usually easier to fix and don't need to be fixed in such a way they are air-tight. Wires can just be twisted together as a temporary fix, while hoses cannot. Plus, you can replace the TRD locker actuator without removing the diff.

  • @aodhanof90 I figure it's just a drop in replacement with the rear axle/differential. I don't have a lift so it prob.involves removing the truck bed, removing the wheels etc. But no I don't know a lot about it. I plan to do it at the end of the summer. I have a lot of other options on my plate first. I want to install rear headlights, maplight mod, spot light, remove/repaint decals, change transmission fluid, and do a turn signal mod (parking light will also blink) before I attempt locker stuff.

  • @lifeisgood070 The main reason for waiting is I haven't had a problem with traction yet. It's crazy considering the hills I've gone up & the rain/mud/snow ice. It's probably 100% due to my awesome tires Michelin LTX. I have bottomed out & smacked the underside a ton. I'd do a 3" lift or so, but I don't wanna kill my gas mileage. It's weird, but I do a like 70% 80mph highway driving, 30% off roading. Don't use it around town cause I got a motorcycle + scooter + legs... lol.

  • Do you got 4x4 now? or just diff lock?

  • @CharlieDoan The truck is 4x4, I Just made the gray wire mode to use the locker without 4x4.

  • @asstuto I did the gray wire mod on my '06 as well. The locker works flawlessly, and has proven to be quite durable despite me having accidentally engaged it while having one wheel spinning on at least 2 different occasions.

Did you know when you are in REAR DIFF LOCK mode : Your steering wheel will be inactivate and will be wider and hard to turn...I really not sure how can you "get in" computer and made power steering work for you?? Dealer NOT recommended for you to do and if accident and auto insurance knew what you did to your truck..Hard for them to pay you of FULL AMOUNT OF TOTAL LOST CONDITION, so Please think thin very carefull before doing this. I had a friend in accident about steering!
