Thank you for this video! I love Dak Kalbi!!! The best Dak Kalbi I had in Chuncheon when I was in Nami Som trip... But all places has its own way of Dak Kalbi. for example in restaurants next to Hongdae and Shincheon has their own way, Gangnam Dakkalbi chib has its own way... But all are delicios!!!
The answer can be depends on how spicy food you can eat.. If you can eat normal Korean spicy food... this one is like that. It will not burn my mouth..but it definitely has spiciness in it.
@aeriskitchen Thank you for the reply. I think Shin Ramyun is spicy but still edible, but the ddukbokki I bought from the store I could only eat a few pieces because it was too spicy so maybe I will have to half the amount of red pepper paste for this recipe.
@OrionSupaSheep dont know if this helps after 4 months but basil would be a better substitute as would corriander if no sesame leaves are available. Also theyre really easy to grow. Kindof the same as mint. Have a go if you can find the seeds online or something just need shade and rain and theyll do the job themselves. I live in sydney and they sprout all over yhe garden. My neighbour they were weeds. Weve been educating him on asian plants that have sprouted over the fence.
I live in Taiwan but not a big city. I have never cooked anything with rice cakes before but I have read online that there is a difference between korean rice cake and some others. Do you think it would be fine to use some other kind of rice cakes?
I don't know what other rice cakes like.. but if they don't have special spices or flavor in it.. and just plain rice cakes.. I guess you can try.. ^^ thanks
Just wondering... Is potatoes one of the main vegetables that are used for korean cookings? I'm curious because I do see a few korean food with potatoes in them :)
Oh my god Aeris, you're videos always make me so hungry and super excited to be moving to Korea in the summer! I'm going to get so fat from all the yummy food I'm going to eat and cook! Keep up the amazing and yummy videos!
Where in Korea are you from? I'm looking to move to Busan or Incheon area.
I was born there.. and lived whole my life there in korea.. so can't compare with other cities.. hehe I like my hometown.. it seems like.. people like Busan also.. it depends on ..what kind of area you like.. you like fun things.. you like..nature ?? our hometown is known as many delicious food.. ^^
I have put Busan down as one of my choices because it's near the sea. I like a mixture of fun and nature but if your hometown is known for delicious food then I'll definitely pay it a visit!

Wow, I'm impressed! I've never seen sesame leaves before. Not to mention in cooking. It all looks so delicious, and I bet it's very nutritious. Thank you for sharing! Peace:)
This dish looks delicious , but is there anyway to mix this with rice ? I saw a video named Dakgalbi Bokkeumbap but it looked like ramen noodles , im confused @_@ ?
restaurants give you rice..and other vegetables to fry them all together with the left over sauce from dak galbi.. maybe that's what you meant.. you just add rice.. some letttuce.. dried seaweed.. kimchi.. green onion.. sesame leaves.. boiled bean sprouts..and fry them all together with the left over sauce.. when you finished eating the dak galbi.. ^^
Haha I went to a local korean restaurant where they made this dish using the table top cooking method. They added mozzarella cheese and instant noodle into it. It was soo good. At the end, they made fried rice in the pan with left over juice. Definitely a unique twist on a classic. ^__^
i remember when i was in daejeon last summer, i had this in a restaurant xD The waitress asked if i want it spicey, and i said yes... then it was too spicey it literally made me sweat lol Good stuff. i love it. ty for the recipe even tho i wont even try to make one xD
@scrumpletplumplet hey man, i dont live in chicago area anymore, but there are some good korean restaurants in Schaumburg area. I remember have this in a restaurant called Sola Sola.
Can I buy the sesame leaves in the ordinary markets? Or do you have someplace to recommend, please? Cause sesame leaves sound kind of hard to get. And what kind of sweet potato you used in this video? Thank you so much!!!
Yes, the sesame leaves are difficult to get around here too.. I bought some at Korean grocery store.... and actually I started to plant my own...hehe I used Korean sweet potato in this video.. which I got from a korean grocery store too.. thanks
we brought it from Korea.. It was heavy to carry it hehe.. yep.. you can use just normal pan..I will say.. nonstick pan will be better for this recipe.. thanks :D
@aeriskitchen i would love to! :) but i'm still looking where to get the pepper paste, red pepper powder & the ricke cake. I had tried this before & I love how it tasted! :)
oops..many ingredients you don't have yet.. if you don't have a Korean or Asian grocery store around you... you can find the ingredients online Korean store..like ASSI PLAZA..or Hmart... hopefully you can get the ingredients and cook Korean food. . thanks
This looks so delicious. I love seeing anything with sweet potatoes in a savory dish. As an American I have seen way too much brown sugar and butter coated sweet potatoes every year at Thanksgiving. Are there other ways to prepare the sweet potato in Korean cuisine?
A common way to eat sweet potato in Korea is.. just steam.. bake.. or boil.. It's sweet enough to eat without any other sugar or sweet things on it. We use it as an ingredient for sweet potato cake, sweet potato pizza..what else..hm.. one snack recipe we have..I posted it on my blog. I will send you a link. thanks:)
looks delicious! I tried making my first korean dish from one of your videos today, but I noticed I needed to add some salt. Is korean food normally low in salt or is that a preference thing? I'm south asian, and our cuisine is very salt dependent
aha.. I think it's depending on personal taste. I don't think I eat low in salt compare with normal Korean people... so maybe Korean food is not salty enough for your taste.. adjust the saltness ^^ Nice to meet you..hehe
there are rice cakes for cooking..and for dessert... of course those will be different in both taste and texture.. the rice cake I used for cooking is.. made with rice flour.. salt and water.. mix the rice with salt and water..and make shape and steam.. we usually buy it in the store.. you can find it in asian store or Korean store. I hope you can find it ..thanks
Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons . com w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)
wow.. really ?? you did a good job !!! hehe.. thank you very much.. I will get a little confidence to make it for American people like the church group if I have chance to make it in the future..hehe.. :)
If it's frozen one.. I will thaw a little.. so at least I can separate each pieces.. if it's from refrigerator..I just use it without cooking. While you fry it on the pan like the video..it will be cooked. :)
lol ~~ oh..I'm sorry that I don't sell my stone pan. I wish somebody could sell the stone bowls and pans from Korea here.. I already got some people who asked me where they can buy the stone bowls and pans..We brought them from Korea.. it was heavy to carry hehe.. since it's heavy..the shipping cost will be expensive..@,@
aha..the pan?? We brought it from Korean. and yes.. it's made of stone. It's good to use for bulgogi (korean bbq) or dak gal bi or gal bi.. Thanks for comment !!!!
^^ oops.. I got the same question before. hehe.. we brought the stone pan from Korean when we came to usa after our wedding in Korea. It was heavy.. (I didn't carry though..hehe)
well...so theres no chance for me to get one of those? bummer...=(
yup i bet that is pretty heavy...but it would fun if i had a stone pan at home so i can make the Dak Galni and Korean BBQ whenever i feel like to =) and i have noticed that u always smashed the garlics with the knife handle...well perhaps you can consider get a stone mortar...it would be easier when you have to smashed spices...thats what my granny does =)
oops...hehe Maybe somebody sells the stone pan or stone bowl in America. like... big Korean or Asian market?? If I can find any ... I will let me know... aha.. stone mortar ?? I've never heard of it..what is it ??? it's machine ?? Actually.. I like to use fresh garlic for my cooking..and it's okay to smash them with the knife handle..^^ but.. I wonder what is the stone mortar.. it can be a good idea..right ??
wow..really @,@ assa.. I'm happy your in-laws liked your dakgalbi... good job !!! then. FIL is.. father in law ?? It wasn't too spicy for them? anyway.. thanks for telling me a good news..
LOL.. glue sticks.. that's so real !!! I found some Americans don't like sticky rice cake... chewy..but doesn't have speical taste in it..hehe anyway.. glue sticks..it was funny :)
So.. your daughter's name is shira?? hehe..Nice to meet you, shira.. oops.. request @,@ show u I and my hubby eating the food?? huk ~~~~ hehe... I will think of that.. I question about my honey though.. @.@ I still remember your kimchi request.. Sorry for late .. but I will do it someday.. forgive me with my this big smile for you.. ^____________________^ Thanks !!!!
This looks so delicious^0^``i can't wait to try. I'll go to the korean town here in Sydney and hope I can get some sesame leaves there ^^~~Thanks for posting this~~
Thanks for posting this...it was one of our favourite dishes from Korea. We often ate it at Konkuk University on a Friday night...I miss those days!! Really looking forward to trying this. My only problem - they don't sell sesame leaves in my city. But they're essential to so many dishes. ㅠㅠ
You are very welcome. You have a good memory in Korea. I know..I also miss many Korean food I used to eat in Korea. oh... I had same problem..so I planted it by myself. I got sesame leaves from our garden. It will be okay without sesame leaves.. just try it. thanks for comment ~~~
I tried posting a comment after my other one earlier but it would not go through, even on your youtube page too... I was going to say about the food too, that it looks delicious, but now instead I will say it is delicious, because I made it for dinner tonight! XD I love those rice cakes, mmm I can't wait to make the other dishes with them now! By the way I wanted to ask how Aeri is written in Korean? :D
That happens... thanks for your patience.. You didn't give up to post comments ..hehe oh.. you tried dak gal bi ?? or other one... wow anyway..hehe Aeri = 애리 bye... I think you can write and read Korean..right...
Yes thank you, I didn't want to make a mistake on your name too! XD Also, this is so good; even though I ran out of chicken, rice cakes, and sweet potato, I tried making it with canned tuna and brocolli in it instead... and it was still delicious! XDD ahah well to me anyway! I think it is one of my favorite dishes now!
haha.. you are amazing.. canned tuna and brocolli.. :) It's good you liked it. wow one of your favorite dish... I do wonder how the tuna taste will be like with dak galbi sauce... You found one good fusion from Korean food.. good job !! Thanks for comment !!!
Aeri, 고맙습니다! I had only learned "저는~입니다.", but now I know how to say "My name is~.", "제 이름은 ~ 입니다.", right? I have trouble when I try to spell a word I hear in Korean, I get the vowel sounds mixed up and miss silent ㅎ's & ㄹ's, and don't know whether is a doubled consonant or not, ahah pretty much everything! I will get it though! It seems harder to find meanings of things in Korean online than some other languages, I will just work with my textbooks though! ^^ ~Aeri is the best, 쩡! hehe XD
Wow, I was surprised at your Korean. :) You could listen to what I said in Korean..great !!! I do want to help people who want to learn Korean like you ... maybe.. someday, I can make some videos to teach some basic Korean to people?? it's just my idea.. hehe.. not sure..anyway..if you have any questions about Korean language.. please ask me.
and actually you made me smile and laugh tonight... "쩡" hehe..good try.. I will correct a little though.. "짱" is right... just one vowel different...but thanks.. I was happy to hear your "쩡"... :D bye~~~
Ahahah XD see I said I mix them up! Oh dear... I do know it is said jjang and not jjeong though XD, but that would be funny; does 쩡 mean anything? XD Well, I am glad you could laugh! ^^ Ahhh so embarrassing, I wonder how to say I am embarrassed in Korean... Anyway, 미안합니다 for calling you 쩡!! x_x
hehe.. Yep.. It was cute funny word. "쩡" means fatkatt2 said to Aeri "짱" ...okay ? ;) jk.. actually for that one letter "쩡".. there is no meaning and no word for it..hehe Embarrassing is.. 당황스러워요 (=I'm embarrassed) and 당황스럽다 (=It is embarrassing) I love to see your Korean word in your message..thanks !!! THAT'S ALL RIGHT.. Please make more cute funny mistakes for me..hehe..
I can imagine your busy life in the college.. especially it's your first year so... soon everything will be better..since you will be accustomed to the new life and find ways to handle it. I wish I could cook some Korean food for you. Fighting !!!!!

there are rice cakes for cooking..and for dessert... of course those will be different in both taste and texture.. the rice cake I used for cooking is.. made with rice flour.. salt and water.. mix the rice with salt and water..and make shape and steam.. we usually buy it in the store.. you can find it in asian store or Korean store. I hope you can find it ..thanks

aeriskitchen 2 years ago
by the way, do you have to cook the rice cake before you put it into the pan or do you leave it like it is when you first buy it?
Phaythful 2 years ago
Hi, Phaythful
If it's frozen one.. I will thaw a little.. so at least I can separate each pieces.. if it's from refrigerator..I just use it without cooking. While you fry it on the pan like the video..it will be cooked. :)
aeriskitchen 2 years ago
i had this at a korean restaurant and i loved it! now i know how to make it. THANKS!

I like the way you cook this dish - I will subscribe to your recipes! Thanks

Hello air. if i buy this stone pan from you for 46.99 how much is shipping?
ErasmusIII 3 years ago
Hi, Erasmuslll
lol ~~ oh..I'm sorry that I don't sell my stone pan. I wish somebody could sell the stone bowls and pans from Korea here.. I already got some people who asked me where they can buy the stone bowls and pans..We brought them from Korea.. it was heavy to carry hehe.. since it's heavy..the shipping cost will be expensive..@,@
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
If you're in the US, some large Korean supermarkets like Hmart may sell these stone pans. Google hmart to find one near where you live.

aeriskitchen 3 years ago
where can i get a stone pan like that?
BABJNT 3 years ago
Hi, BABJNT
^^ oops.. I got the same question before. hehe.. we brought the stone pan from Korean when we came to usa after our wedding in Korea. It was heavy.. (I didn't carry though..hehe)
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
well...so theres no chance for me to get one of those? bummer...=(
yup i bet that is pretty heavy...but it would fun if i had a stone pan at home so i can make the Dak Galni and Korean BBQ whenever i feel like to =) and i have noticed that u always smashed the garlics with the knife handle...well perhaps you can consider get a stone mortar...it would be easier when you have to smashed spices...thats what my granny does =)
BABJNT 3 years ago
Hi, BABJNT ^^
oops...hehe Maybe somebody sells the stone pan or stone bowl in America. like... big Korean or Asian market?? If I can find any ... I will let me know... aha.. stone mortar ?? I've never heard of it..what is it ??? it's machine ?? Actually.. I like to use fresh garlic for my cooking..and it's okay to smash them with the knife handle..^^ but.. I wonder what is the stone mortar.. it can be a good idea..right ??

Thanks for posting this...it was one of our favourite dishes from Korea. We often ate it at Konkuk University on a Friday night...I miss those days!! Really looking forward to trying this. My only problem - they don't sell sesame leaves in my city. But they're essential to so many dishes. ㅠㅠ
sinnae404 3 years ago
Hi ^^
You are very welcome. You have a good memory in Korea. I know..I also miss many Korean food I used to eat in Korea. oh... I had same problem..so I planted it by myself. I got sesame leaves from our garden. It will be okay without sesame leaves.. just try it. thanks for comment ~~~

aeriskitchen 3 years ago
I tried posting a comment after my other one earlier but it would not go through, even on your youtube page too... I was going to say about the food too, that it looks delicious, but now instead I will say it is delicious, because I made it for dinner tonight! XD I love those rice cakes, mmm I can't wait to make the other dishes with them now! By the way I wanted to ask how Aeri is written in Korean? :D
fatkatt2 3 years ago
Hi, fatkatt2
That happens... thanks for your patience.. You didn't give up to post comments ..hehe oh.. you tried dak gal bi ?? or other one... wow anyway..hehe Aeri = 애리 bye... I think you can write and read Korean..right...
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
Yes thank you, I didn't want to make a mistake on your name too! XD Also, this is so good; even though I ran out of chicken, rice cakes, and sweet potato, I tried making it with canned tuna and brocolli in it instead... and it was still delicious! XDD ahah well to me anyway! I think it is one of my favorite dishes now!
fatkatt2 3 years ago
Hi, fatkatt2 ^^
haha.. you are amazing.. canned tuna and brocolli.. :) It's good you liked it. wow one of your favorite dish... I do wonder how the tuna taste will be like with dak galbi sauce... You found one good fusion from Korean food.. good job !! Thanks for comment !!!
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
Aeri, 고맙습니다! I had only learned "저는~입니다.", but now I know how to say "My name is~.", "제 이름은 ~ 입니다.", right? I have trouble when I try to spell a word I hear in Korean, I get the vowel sounds mixed up and miss silent ㅎ's & ㄹ's, and don't know whether is a doubled consonant or not, ahah pretty much everything! I will get it though! It seems harder to find meanings of things in Korean online than some other languages, I will just work with my textbooks though! ^^ ~Aeri is the best, 쩡! hehe XD
fatkatt2 3 years ago
Hi, fatkatt2 ^^
Wow, I was surprised at your Korean. :) You could listen to what I said in Korean..great !!! I do want to help people who want to learn Korean like you ... maybe.. someday, I can make some videos to teach some basic Korean to people?? it's just my idea.. hehe.. not sure..anyway..if you have any questions about Korean language.. please ask me.
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
continue...to fatkatt2
and actually you made me smile and laugh tonight... "쩡" hehe..good try.. I will correct a little though.. "짱" is right... just one vowel different...but thanks.. I was happy to hear your "쩡"... :D bye~~~
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
Ahahah XD see I said I mix them up! Oh dear... I do know it is said jjang and not jjeong though XD, but that would be funny; does 쩡 mean anything? XD Well, I am glad you could laugh! ^^ Ahhh so embarrassing, I wonder how to say I am embarrassed in Korean... Anyway, 미안합니다 for calling you 쩡!! x_x
fatkatt2 3 years ago
Hi, fatkatt2 ^^
hehe.. Please make more cute funny mistakes for me..hehe..
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
