  • when I use google translate it responds In written word rather than spoken word. How do I change that?

  • I'm so grateful. I really like this device. Now traveling made easy!!

  • Dxxxxx

  • what for is LYNN in this video?!

  • @groovedoc I'm guessing she spoke the Japanese.

  • โล้น

  • Wish it work in offline mode too.

  • Nice

  • pretty brilliant. I'm such a WP7.5 fanboy but this is pretty awesome

  • we need Malay support

  • you tube

  • Here's a realtime image translation software transperfect(dot)com/marketing/iphone/transimage.html

  • Here's a realtime image translation software

  • ok so finally I understood one point where actually this could be useful. (still good luck with data roaming in other countries...)

  • The Japanese voice is so moe.. but the English one is err yeah

  • @noppiichi yeah the english one sounds bored and really low key,.And what does Lin do there? is her´s japanese voice that responds back?

  • would you make a siri mode at the same time ? :)

  • Aww it's a cute and moé girl voice.

  • Is there a iOS version? (just kidding.)

  • You guys need to allow unicode support. I can't view any of the indic languages on my phone.

  • sugeeeeee

  • niceeeee Google, I like it ,support Arabic please

  • This will be insanely expensive with today's roaming charges!

  • Is it me or the japanese voice sounds a lot better compared to the english voice.

  • @aesirstudios Agreed.. English voice sounds god awful

  • There needs to be a way of having 2 phones translate so that we wouldnt have to keep passing the phone to each other.

  • Great job. I use this to translate between English and Czech. Very useful!

  • Damn, that makes my 1 year japanese course completely useless.

  • In the case of Japanese, maybe the translation could be taken account if the speaker is male or female. See gender difference in spoken Japanese in Wikipedia.

  • Exelente!!!

  • I could've used this back in '83 :(

  • Great, except; if I'm abroad, I don't want to use internet traffic on my phone...

  • This is indeed a very cool feature.

But when I'm in Tokyo, I'm not having a working 3G connection, as I don't want to use Data Roaming.

  • Man this looks cool!

I wish Apple and Google weren't competitors now, this would be an awesome inclusion to Siri.

Speaking of which, it would be good if this was included more readily into the Android OS, and not just a specialised translate app.

  • just tried mandarin and cantonese. *facepalm*. it's strange cos voice search in cantonese is very good.

  • Just tried it with Thai language and results no accurate even for simple phrases.

  • @zog667 It was proven on Jeopardy that a megacomputer (Watson) cannot be programmed to be as accurate as a human. It (NOT a "he" or "she") said Toronto was part of the United States of America. Perhaps it was programmed to say so (a possibility). An application is never a substitute for a human being. Google is being funded thru fraud of perps. who hate the truth. Another gimmick using my money illegally to prove that americans R dumb. The enemy was put in the WH by InNet techs. perps. ENOUGH.hs

  • This guy do not even know how to say thank you in japanese.

  • Nice taunt to apple's SiRi ;)

  • 音声認識と翻訳をサーバー側でやるから、この手の翻訳はどんどん洗練されて実用的になり、通訳や翻訳者はいらなくなるね。

  • @KnightMD shut up

  • which are the avable languages?

  • Comment removed

  • i love it!

  • The translate results were realy natural. (I'm a Japanese)

Probubly this function will be useful for your (and my) travel.

  • Genial!!!!!!!

  • 翻译中文一点也不准..

  • @sycsycsyc378 I think is impossible to translate chinese. think to all the chengyu...

  • @sycsycsyc378 是它。 It does. Mandarin. I would like to see a demo though :o

  • This app. is not available on android market where can i find it

  • 여자애는 머리에 트리트먼트 좀 해야겄다. 머리겨 완전 푸석푸석하네.

  • Lin is so exoticly hot.

btw check my channel... making fun of apple vidz etc.

  • @SGS2sprint She is indeed!

  • The microphone needs to be open at all times, and the software is supposed to be able to recognize the two different languages and provide live written and audible translation.

  • Google. It's been 4 years, and STILL NO ARABIC SUPPORT ON ANDROID. In 2011, do i seriously need to hack on code so I can read arabic properly?

  • These gadget videos are starting to look like Apple videos every time.

White backgrounds with fingers pointing in and out lol

Steve Job's imprint is seen everywhere!

  • Okay Google, that's a good first step. You're still wayyy behind schedule on that Babel fish though. (The actual one, not the pedestrian online namesake from Yahoo)

  • @Yossarian1985 Could you give me a link to the real babel fish then?

  • It's on alpha so of course it won't be perfect. The best we could do is support the developers by reporting whatever problem we may encounter. Love this app and has huge potential once perfected.

  • Babel fish!

  • The english -» french on google translate is horribly inaccurate. and I am gonna assume that for practically all the other languages. You will probably realize this if your bilingual and just want to do the odd 2nd language dictionary searches for tough words.

  • Android's keep getting better and better :)

  • Awesome.

  • Who needs to pass Spanish class when there's an app for that (And 13 other classes)?

  • It will bring people that never thought they would speak to one another to come together, also know what others are talking about in other languages right in front of you.

  • about time

  • Oh man, I can't wait for the slang misinterpretation hilarity to ensue!

  • Its a miracle.

  • how many clicks was that?! like 6 for 2 questions...

  • @jbdranger Trust me, when you're stuck in a foreign country with NO idea where you are, you WILL be glad for those 6 clicks. >_>

  • And your roaming bill will be ENORMOUS :(

  • @daveidfrancois Tips no1 for the modern traveller: Buy a cash phonecard/simcard in every country you visit.

  • @MrHimod Japan is the exception :) you CAN'T buy one unless you're a Japanese resident, its against the law! Renting one is possible but I spent more money renting than I would have roaming :(!!

  • English Voice sounds so...robotic and creepy

  • I love you google

  • Tested. English-Russian does not work good. Only about 5% translates correctly.

  • GT still throws out pretty dumb translations sometimes, but I'm very impressed by how well it works for a fully-automated process, and it noticeably improves as time goes on. Conversation mode is a really cool innovation, and though it still has its own little eccentricities, I'm super excited at the direction the technology is taking. It's starting to really feel like ten or twenty years down the road, language won't be a barrier to communication anymore.

  • @SamiSonyKyle It is running Gingerbread. Ice cream sandwich will probably be announced on October 18th.

  • google, we need Arabic support

  • @SamiSonyKyle no this is not the ICS update, its for all android phones with previous versions, android ICS is next week annocument.

  • @erving25 you're so clever. this distinctly shows that the probability of this happening is directly proportional to the probability of readers rolling their eyes at your comment.

  • wonderful!

  • I like that...

  • This version is not in the market. The old version which only supports conversation mode in Spanish is there...

  • @bigbill25 It'll take a little time for the update to propagate. You should see it before the end of the day.

  • @joshatgoogle Thanks! I just got it! Awesome work, Googlers.
