In the case of Japanese, maybe the translation could be taken account if the speaker is male or female. See gender difference in spoken Japanese in Wikipedia.

The english -» french on google translate is horribly inaccurate. and I am gonna assume that for practically all the other languages. You will probably realize this if your bilingual and just want to do the odd 2nd language dictionary searches for tough words.

GT still throws out pretty dumb translations sometimes, but I'm very impressed by how well it works for a fully-automated process, and it noticeably improves as time goes on. Conversation mode is a really cool innovation, and though it still has its own little eccentricities, I'm super excited at the direction the technology is taking. It's starting to really feel like ten or twenty years down the road, language won't be a barrier to communication anymore.
